Look up^
I think it'll get a 9.7 on IGN
btw I'm back, and I'm glad to, cuz i've got some burnin questions. :dopey:

It hasn't been released yet. For all anyone knows it could be the worst video game ever developed.

What are these burnin' questions?

I know.

Well, I wanna know how many evenements there are exactly, but i know they can't be answered yet.

its a big hyped game so it will score about a 9.5 or 95 or above depending on the scale. Game reviews as based a lot on hype now, not on how good the actual game is.

Not true. Look at DRIV3R. Tonz of hype, bad reviews. I think GT4 will get 9.9. It's not perfect, but much better than GT3. They did overdo gt3's score, but it's still better, so the score should be better. Right?

Not necessarily the case.

The expectations for the game are through the roof. As such, it will be held to MUCH higher standards when it's released. So although it may be much better than GT3, it's entirely feasible that it's rating will be lower.

Anyway, my guess? 96.

Agreed. 👍

Depends on the magazine (which is where I get most of my reviews). OPM will probably give it 4.5/5 (the .5 probably because of the online thing), if not 5/5. EGM will probably give it 10/10/9.5, same score they gave for GT3, and it'll probably be Game of the Month.

Yeah, it does vary and depends on what magazine it is.

ign over did gt3's score. It didn't deserve a 98 imo, more like a 96.

Ahem, when Gran Turismo 3 came out, that was probably 100 in all of our minds. As we learned about Gran Turismo 4, it's obviously decreased.

Yea well tell that to id, Doom III got a 8.5 on gamespot, I think that is one of the best games ever!!!

on a scale of 1 to 10 this thread gets a mark of -10

how could anyone know enough about the finished product to rate it? pretty ridiculous. Especially the replies that were soo genius enough to go into the decimals ie: 9.75528 out of 10.0. wtf? :dunce:

Well, this question has one huge X-factor. Allow me to provide my not-really-close-to-expert analysis. Let me see if I can pretend to be the sources in question by going across the map.

Gamespot: 9.3; User Review 9.8
Gamespot will likely love all the many cars, features, tracks, and (unknown for now) some of the music. The X-factor will be that online play will knock down the score from maybe 9.5+ to 9.3.

Game Informer: 9.50 or 9.75 with GAME OF THE MONTH rating
GI will love the innovative gameplay and all the many features. But in the "Second Opinion" section, one of the editors might say "...the disappointing element is the missing online play." And if they know that multiplayer isn't a necessity, they would say "Even though online play is the future of gaming, GT fans still will be proud to have a new GT built up in almost every way conceivable."

G4TechTV show "X-Play": 4 out of 5 or lower
Maybe Adam Sessler will do the review and complain about no online play beyond LAN, no car damage, no rollovers, but will complement the graphics, features, and Photo Mode. After the review is made, A.S. would say "if you are not a fan of GT, you will LOVE Burnout 3." Then Morgan Webb would compliment saying "Plus, you'll be proud to play onlineand not have to worry about paying extra for an online GT next year." Another situation is that Morgan Webb might say "if you want online play for GT4, you'll have to wait until next year."

So there you have my predictions. Gamespot will give it at least 9.3, Game Informer will present GAME OF THE MONTH because I think it will deliver there unless HALO 2 gets delayed to December. And I'll further neglect X-Play's poor decision on not giving GT4 a higher result than "4 out of 5." I have maybe a few more situations, but that's all for now.

GT4 Score, based on all available research I could find: 0%, To Be Announced, To Be Released, Yet To Be Played... take your pick.

Or else it is the square root of the 3rd standard deviation, over and above the mean score of all previous GT games of the series...

Meh GT4 is going to get a score lower than any other game to date, even worse the Superman 64!
Yep thats right, GT4 is roughly a 0.001 it would have gotten a 9.999 if there was an online mode but since there isnt a 9.998 point deduction has to be taken into consideration.  :P

Seriously I think GT4 will get about a 9.9 or 9.8. Maybe even lower since many people have put more president on the online mode than the actual game content and gameplay in GT4. In many peoples mind GT4 already is a 0.0 just because there is no online mode until 05 but they can buy the offline game in December.

Ya know, 3rdgenracerX, I think you've just put your finger on the whole Online Mode farce ... people expect too much and hype the game up and up, but when it's released and it's proved that all the things people expected to be there actually aren't, they all cry foul and send rude messages to the developers and publishers. They ignore what is there and concentrate on what isn't.

Anyway, continuing a long tradition of high scores, GT4 should score very highly. But I have to admit, sejtur, that is one of the stupidest questions I have ever heard - how can we rate a game that's still 58 days away from release?!?!?!

I'm not going to rate the game, but i'll say this.
If the AI is not up to scratch and there is no online play (which we already know), I think, GT4 will suffer alot in the review scores. The reviews will be good, but they will always go back to the AI sucks/no online play part.

Here are more predictions of mine continuing from my previous reply.

Official Playstation Magazine: Perfect 5 Stars or 4.5 Stars with GAME OF THE MONTH
OPM's been tracking this game down and GT4 will no doubt be a new-age classic. I think this game will lock horns with "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" for PS2 GAME OF THE YEAR, if not GAME OF THE YEAR period. Afterwards, OPM can choose two options in a review. First, they can say that this game is the measuring stick for all racing games daresay threaten the throne. Or true to PS2 fans, OPM may make a cheap offensive (or, cheap shot) at Project Gotham Racing 2 or RalliSport Challenge 2. I think OPM will say that GT4 is a very impressive game despite not having online play beyond a Local Area Network (LAN).

Gamepro: (no less than 4.0)
I have some old Gamepro magazines, but I'm not sure how they grade. I'm kind of just running the table if I can. GP will talk about slick gamplay, plenty of cars, an brand-new physics engine, but of course comment on no online play beyond LAN. I don't know how they will take the news, but for sure, it will be a "it's all impressive except..." deal.

As I said, I'm making rather "educated" guesses as to how the media will review GT4. To me, I'd be surprised wholly if not one reviewer gives a score of no more than 4.0, 9.0, 4 out of 5, (depending on how they score) because I think as Driv3r faultered like the 2003 Oakland Raiders, GT4 will most likely put the world on notice, even if the GT franchise hasn't done that already. So you want to guess on this one? Suit yourself.

The other thing to note is that some reviewers are well aware of the fact that online gaming isn't as "big" as the companies (like Microsoft) would lead you to believe. While some folks hype online as the "next big thing" and the "must have feature" for every game imaginable, others are well aware of the fact that only... oh, I'd estimate one-in-twenty PS2 owners even has a network adapter. Therefore, it shouldn't matter squat for a review. A reviewer might take away 0.1 points for no online, then give 0.1 points back for not delaying the game just so it could have online.

By the way, does anyone actually have a stat on how many network adapters have been sold? I'd be curious to find out the percentage of PS2 owners that are actually affected by the removal of online. The number is probably far smaller than the naysayers and the OMGWTFP people think.

EDIT: Just looked it up.. the absolute latest sales figures weren't out, but about six months ago, it was around one-in-thirty (less than 3 million adapters sold out of over 70 million PS2's). Based on conjecture concerning GT4's sales figures, I'd be willing to wager that less than 30% of GT4 players will even be ABLE to play online (that's being generous.. a more realistic figure would be 15-20%, I think). That's a fairly small percentage overall... small wonder they decided the best option was to drop it.

perhaps online play was never intended at all.....and that it was just a ploy to buy more time for other stuff?

i wonder what it would be like if KY admitted this at the release press conference thing.

Jedi, your talking utter crap, try telling the MILLIONS of online gamers that it isn't a big thing :P

Sony screwed up, no built in adaptor, crap online service, to little to late, that's why no one has it. Just because YOU don't care about online play, doesn't mean you can decide that it doesn't matter for all of us. 15% of every copy of Gt4 sold is still alot, and I can tell you one thing, if Gt4 was online, ALOT more network adaptors would be sold (I for one would buy one, even though I think it's a rip off, just to play my friends online), which kinda throws your ideas to the "wrong" pile.

A reviewer might take away 0.1 points for no online, then give 0.1 points back for not delaying the game just so it could have online

Then that reviewer would be stupid, games don't get negative scores because they are delayed :P. They get negative scores for missing out features and having flaws.

I think the game will suffer from being late and not being online, not having damage and so on. It will still be awesome, but in terms of rating it will not be as much of a wipeout as previous games. Will be interesting to see also what kind of bugs we'll find this time. ;)

On the other hand, in terms of finish and features I think the game will still look awesome and score high. I predict some magazines may split up the online ranking and offline ranking of games just for GT4, but we'll see.
