As the title says, I'm nearing lvl 35 finally and going to do the race in real time with 2 friends at my place in a few days. The X1 would make it too easy really, and the Formula GT cars don't have headlights anyway, so we're going to go with a real LeMans racer. Right now, we've got the following selection to choose from:

- Audi R10 TDI Stealth edition
- Bentley Speed 8
- Mazda 787B
- Sauber Mercedes C9
- Pecarolo C60 Hybride
- Peugeot 908 HDi FAP
- Toyota Minolta 88C-V

We're all reasonably good at GT5, but still our styles are going to differ a bit, so we're gonna need a car that's pretty neutral.

My own feeling is that the R10 will allow for fewer fuel stops, but none of us particularly like the car and I don't think the tires would outlast the fuel stops. I also think the C9 is probably the outright fastest, but it can be bit unpredictable.

What would you go with and why? (Feel free to recommend cars not on the list too, as I've got a few days to find them in the used cars list)

88CV is the fastest there. The C60 Hybride is a bit of a pig and the R10 is a little too twitchy for my liking.

I would narrow it down to the 908, C9 or Speed 8 (Speed 8 seems the most stable of the three, to me). Out of those three it's just personal choice really.

I would recommend the 908, but last night I raced online at night on the Ring.
Maybe it was a bug or something, but on full beam there were hardly any lights. I couldn't see a s**t. Dipped beam was quite good, but way too short ranged. Maybe this is realistic for the car IRL?
Anybody noticed this?

Anyway, all of the short listed cars are great and will do the job. I would go for one of the premiums.

I did it with the x1 , and finished 51 laps ahead of the second car.
The thing with the x1 is that you can relax a bit expecially during the night laps that last almost 9 hours.

GT-ONE toyota thats a awesome car for that track i bet, and fastest car too except fgt or x1..

It's like in GT4, any of the cars you mentioned are capable of winning the race in the hands of a relatively good, non-AI driver. It's when running the race in B-spec that you want to chose the best car (similar to GT4)

Personally, I would choose the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. Mainly because it's premium, and in a race with dynamic weather and dynamic day-night transition, I would want to have the cockpit view, the windscreen wiper and the High/low beam headlights. However, if the Aston Martin LMP1 was featured in this game...

When I did it the fastest car was a R8 - the AI may have set it this way but it was quicker than an R10. The Minolta-Toyota ahould be quicker than an R8 (esp. if you tune it).

If you want a 'battle' on equal footing I would try and find an R8.

Good luck - it rained 24 hours when I did it!!

Yes, the R8 will be faster than most other cars and is a genuine LMP. Let me know if you need one, I have the '01 and the '05.

My favourite is C9. I thing, it's easy to drive so no one will have problem with this car. Another good one to handle is Peugeot 908, but it's slower.

The Bentley Speed 8 is very good to its tires, and can last around 10 laps I think if you go somewhat to a full out race pace.

Pescarolo Hybrid and the Sauber C9 are very fast, but eat tires and fuel.

But really, you can win in all the cars you mentioned, even in a Gillet Vertigo if you're a sadist.

I did it with the R10 TDi Stealth Model.

I didn't get any rain, and pitted every 7 to 9 laps, tires are very average by then. The good thing is you spend less time refuelling because you still have 1/4 to 1/2 a tank left. Headlights were fine, had no problems with night racing.

I did it in 10 then 10 then 4 hours. Was so tired at the end I parked it for the last 40 mins because I had that much of a lead.

He quite specifically said non-X1. :sly:

Damn, this is what I was worried about thanks to the tyre bug where they all last the same length. Pitting every seven laps in a 24 hour race is going to be annoying, in reality an LMP car does about 12 - 15 laps per stint.

The 908 has indeed strange long distance light, mine pointed somewhere in the sky and didn't show anything of the road. I ran all night with low beam because of that, which doesn't really cut it at 350km/h. It's doable, but you might want to test it before you realize something like that 6 hours into the race.

Well, I was pitting every 10 or so laps at first, but when tired I'd make too many mistakes on 3/4 worn tyres. 7 laps (while tired) was better for me.

Since I didn't have the X2010 when I did this race (and still don't have :() and the FGT doesn't have any lights (therefore not suitable for night), I did it with Toyota Minolta because it was the "best" (after X2010 and FGT) and most suitable car for this event in my opinion (and because I didn't have the other cars you mentioned at that time). But actually all of them are great, whereby I like the handling of Peugeot 908 (Pescarolo C60 Hybride is also nice) :) !

My issue with the headlights was indeed with the "Team Peugeot Total", does anyone know if the lights of the Matmut Oreca are better?

Both are the same. Don't see any problem with it.

Try the 908 for 1 lap in the night. If you can live with the crappy lights go for it :)

I tried the 88C yesterday for about 30 laps. I like it, but I need to pit more than the A.I. So I might lose in the long run ... needs futher testing

Has anyone tried this with the 787B without the turbo upgrade? It would be nice to know this car could compete as I already own it and am trying to save up for a Miura.

I believe the the 787B would be the best car for this event. After extensive testing of many of the le mans racers the only one that was faster was the Minolta by half a second. The 787B also car go up to 13 laps on a tank of gas and a set of racing soft tires.

I had the 905 LeMans car come up in the UCD, so I decided to give it a try. This thing is fast and light(only did an oil change & racing mediums). I am currently 7 hours into the De La Sarthe race and 5.5 laps up. The lights seem to be more than adequate for the night racing!

When you guys talk of doing this race, do you tune your cars? I haven't done it yet and like to leave my cars as they come and only fiddling with the parts that are already fitted.
But I also don't want to get to this race and find I'm severely down on pace.

I can't remember if I did it with the bigger turbo or not, but I haven't tuned a car yet, except for final gearing.
