What on Earth is this!? B-Spec Mode Help

Recently, I've been training up a third and fourth driver in B-Spec mode so I can have enough to do the endurance series. My first and best driver I notice suddenly has this weird silver gap on his speed and strength. His starting strength now isn't 100% at the start of races. I tried leveling him but this happens:

Does anybody out there know any way to get rid of these silver parts?
 
Rest him, maybe? Is there an orange arrow next to his helmet? If so, then play with a different driver for a while because your driver needs rest. If There is green or blue, then it may be time to retire him as that might be the sign for skills going down :(

I did that. It's back up to a blue up arrow and it's still like that. In fact, I got this while using nothing but my 2 new B-spec drivers for a long time.

Now you can add me to that list aswell since I have 2 drivers like this :(, Levels 24 and 27, I was going to start a thread about it a few days ago but really couldn't be bothered :p
 
I thought about looking at his individual techniques and this is what I found:

BTW, it might be noteworthy that he has raced 230+ races. I'm starting to think this isn't a glitch. Perhaps this is PD's take on aging in their RPG for realism...
 
well it looks to me like they are reaching the end of their careers! I think once that experience bar is full they will retire, and its pretty close, I also remember reading that as they get to the end of a career their numbers will start to drop again. Maybe that is what it means, they have reached peak or its dropping now?
 
So, I'm guessing there isn't a way to get rid of the silver parts? It's just gonna be stuck like that?

Also, does anybody know if the silver parts actually expand if you continue to use the driver?
 
My guess would be his skills deteriorate the higher the experience bar gets, more and more until he reaches the end of his career and retires. I would say he's getting past his prime.
