What PS3 Exclusive game has as much screen-tearing as GT5?

Anyone else think this is pretty ridiculous? There's so much screen-tearing in GT5 it baffles me how PD could've allowed this.

I expect this from third-party developers with multi-platform games where the PS3 version is a crappy port, but not a PS3 exclusive 1939 years in development.

I assume there are plans to patch this crap out?

It's most obvious when playing 2 player split screen on 1080P. I think the 4xAA given to 720P display makes it less obvious, as does playing in single player. Maybe using a standard car will also make it less obvious?

You guys are just not looking hard enough.

I just didn't notice it for the first week or so, but now that I am playing more B-Spec races so I'm not so focused on the road and can look at the whole screen it's extremely common.

I'm struggling to think of any other game.
Il sturmovik had a patch which helped. Loved that game.

I have honestly never seen any screen tearing and i play every day, never noticed any of the supposed frame-rate problems either.

Can you tell me how to see screen tearing?

If you haven't seen it don't look for it. You can't unsee it after you notice it.

Yep definitely true! Do NOT look for it. Do NOT look at screenshots exhibiting the problem! Because of all the whinging about it on this and other forums I started seeing it while I wasn't before I looked into it.

And indeed... I can now not unsee it. I see it in lots of games now and it pretty much sucks because it was never an issue for me.

So do yourself a favor and 'take the blue pill' and don't pay attention to it.

First Uncharted was pretty bad

That is right, the first Uncharted was pretty bad in the way of screen-tearing.

But, in GT5's defense, comparing a driving game with other titles from different genres isn't fair. God of War III has a camera that is independent from what the player does, whereas GT5's camera is completely dependent on what the player is doing. It takes much more computing power for the system to process the graphics when a player decides to turn stronger into a corner or perhaps do a complete 360 with their car.

Now, for the sake of my argument, I haven't played any other driving games on the PS3, so I can't say if this deterrent has shown itself in other titles. The only title that may relate would be Modnation Racers, I haven't seen any screen-tearing in this title, but it's graphics aren't anywhere near as good as GT5's. To continue on with where I am going with this argument, I haven't seen a game with outstanding graphics that hasn't had screen-tearing that has also had a "dependent-on-the-player" camera view. I guess the only title would be FFXIII, that game never had screen-tearing, and it had a "dependent" camera, and it had outstanding graphics. Both Uncharted's suffered from screen-tearing, and they both had "dependent" cameras.

I noticed it (along with the terrible frame rate) within my first few races. I played at a friends place on his 1080p setup and could easily see the tearing and frame rate issues (not only that, the game doesn't even look that good IMHO)

I only notice it occasionally really. Its no where near as bad as having V-sync off on pc games where it happens on pretty much every single frame.

Though admittedly sometimes, when the screen does tear it gets pretty epic.

Hasn't bothered me. I notice it now and then, but I'm too busy racing to give a hoot about screen tears or 2D trees way off in the background or whatever the "complaint of the week" is.

Edit: I do wonder if GT5 actually tears that much more than other games, or if it's partly more noticeable because of the way GT5 looks and plays?

Screen tear is bad on the nurburgring nordschleife.
The bronze/gold/silver times have the 0's appear between the others. So i see "x:xx.0(0)0(0)0" (the (0)'s are ghosted 0's)

They also need to turn OFF Vsync because they weren't able to get 60 FPS to happen all the time. And since they decided to turn Vsync on while they can't manage the 60FPS, we get the screen tearing and input lag. I cannot stand that input lag. It feels just so horrible.

Can you post a pic of this? I am playing on a Slim with a 1080p 40" TV and I cannot find the issue.

Go to nordschleife on AMG driving academy and look at the Gold/Silver/Bronze times (Full lap or Sector 3 will do). There will be ghosted 0's between the other 0's. This is an example of screen tearing.

Any other tearing I haven't experienced because i have a 120Hz TV, so the frames seem to always sync up.

Oh is that all it is? I didn't notice it but even if I did I don't car lol

...that's not screen tearing, it's ghosting. That shouldn't be happening at all. You need to check your cables.

Well iv just searched youtube to see examples of gt5 screen tearing and could only find 1 so i know what it is now, also watched an example from final fantasy and that was terrible.

Anyways after that i played 2 races to see if i could some screen tearing and my ps3/gt5/tv combo got a clean bill off health!!!

Must add that i only play on 720p to get the benifit of 4x msaa rather than 2x msaa of 1080p so maybe thats why im not getting any. if your screen tearing is that bad maybe its worth a shot toning down to 720p, game still looks incrediable and according to digital foundrys tech analysis even with 4xmsaa you get a better framerate

Windshield wipers. That is the only screen tearing I can think of in the game. But I HATE cockpit view, :yuck: so I never race with it. Hence why I don't see it, hence why I don't care.

i switched from 1080p down to 720p because of the screen tearing issues. at first i thought it was my TV until i looked on here.

still get in on 720p but not nearly as bad as 1080p.

50" plasma here.
