What team do you think will win the constructors title in 2012? Will Red Bull repeat, will Lotus step up, will Caterham suprise us all. What do you think?

Personally I fear Red Bull will win the title once again, however I hope McLaren is the champion.

McLaren if they get one of their radical inventions out. Otherwise red bull.

I agree. Based on previous form and the fact that Sebastian Vettel alone outscored both Ferrari drivers, it's gonna be another year of Vettel and Red Bull.

That's a massive assumption right there. We haven't even seen the Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari cars unveiled, much less see them on the circuit.

Exactly. We haven't seen any of the main contenders. All we can go on is past performance. Given that the Red Bull will likely be an evolution of the RB7, unless the others pull something special out the bag, I'm voting on a repeat performance.

We can only go on past performance if the teams start the 2012 season with their 2011 cars. But the rule changes about nose heights means that they need to completely re-think their aerodynamics.

We have no evidence of that. And even if we did, you're still assuming that the gap between Red Bull and everyone else will remain constant. Just because Red Bull built the best car in 2011, it doesn't mean other teams cannot build excellent cars in 2012.

The changes are fairly minor though. And yes, I am aware that the change at the front will affect the aerodynamics of the whole car.Unless Adrian Newey and his team get it horribly wrong, it's unwise to bet against them. Given how early this thread was created, all we can do is guess.

Adrian Newey states the RB8 will be an evolution of the RB7. That was the first of many links found on Google. And like I said, all we can do at this stage is guess based on past performance.

There really is no point debating it.
 
Remember, this thread is just for speculation. The reason I chose Red Bull is because they have Adrian Newey.

Our thoughts will definately change as the season goes on. After the pre-season tests are over we'll probably think something different. Same with after the first race.

Clearly he's insane. Massa on the podium? Not possible. Massa crashing with Hamilton then killing he's car on the kerbs? Possible.

Yes, because there is nothing to debate - unless, as I said, you assume that the differences in performances between the 2011 cars will remain constant into 2012. And we can't assume that at all, because the differences in performances never carry over.

It probably would have been better if this thread was made after the final winter test. Then we'd have something to discuss.

Maybe, however we can use this thread throughout the unveiling of the cars. Just looking at some of the designs can potentially show quite a lot about how fast they'll be. Some of them might have unique designs, and we can debate how effective they'll be in comparison to the others, without having it in a bunch of seperate threads.

Certain cars might have a very unique design. Perhaps a very unique front wing that's so unique it has to be incredibly quick.

It's good to discuss those specific cars in their respective threads however, in my opinion, it's better to discuss who will win the Constructors title in one thread, rather then in 12 threads.

Individuality is no guarantee of speed. Just because a team has a unique front wing design, it does not mean they will be noticeably quicker than other teams. And if they are noticeably quicker, they we cannot attribute that speed solely to the wing.

We can use our creativity and speculate. Obviously no one knows who will win for sure, but there's no problem with speculating. The first test is on the 7th of febuary, and their are 8 more teams scheduled to release their car before then. Within the next two weeks we'll know a lot more about who will be victorious.

Speculation about who will win requires some basis in reality. Which you will not get until we begin to see the kinds of lap times the cars produce (and even then, they will be open to interpretation because teams do not release details of their testing programs). Without that information, you might as well just guess.
 
It'll be another Red Bull year. The best driver in the best car. Though I'm still hoping the action will be a bit closer.
