What the hell is going on?

If America was invaded, and on the first day of the invasion Washington DC was hit by a barrage of strategic airstrikes, and then over two weeks into the war we still had not seen hide nor hair our leader, would not some of us begin to question whether or not he was really alive? Wouldn't we begin to ask who the hell is running the show?

These written statements from Saddam, read by everyone but Saddam, these recorded messages that contain no reference to anything specific to the war, and the reports claiming that his family has fled Iraq, make me wonder what is really going on.

But maybe he is playing us. Maybe he want's us to think he is dead... although I can't imagine what benefit could be had from that. And I also don't think it's Saddam's style. He seems more the in-your-face, egomaniac type who wouldn't be able to pass up the chance to show America they failed.

What do you think?

I think they have had a war plan for some time now, and part of that included him not being a public figure due to his lack of testicular fortitude.

He's alive,... they dont care if the citizens dont know it, cause they know they cant do crap about it.

I dont think we can make a proper analysis of their situation vs. what ours would be,.. due to their lack of a freedom of speech.

I think we'd be incredibly lucky if he was actually dead. More likely he's just bugged out or gone underground, which worked for Osamababy. I agree with RER that really it's a matter of conditioning and threats keeping the Iraqi public in line. It seems like a quarter of their elite troops are there just to terrify the regular army into not surrendering immediately.

That's why we have to keep pounding the snot out of them with narrower and narrower focus, until the last Iraqi stops shooting at us. Then it won't matter if Saddam is dead or not.

It would seem that even if he is hiding, being the ruler of his country and all, he'd be able to get himself on TV. Do you think the conspicuous absence of any detail refering to the war is intentional?

I also like the reference to "victory being at hand" when we just kicked the crap out of one of their best divisions and we're across the river in force.

I'm sure the vagueness is intentional. Why do you think they are collecting private cell phones and satellite phones? So that the real word can't get around the populace. "Any private citizen having one of these devices will be considered a spy", is what they said... they've trumped up some idea that there are infiltrators feeding info to the Coalition, and they are using that as an excuse to tighten their control over internal communication even further.

I agree with RER that they are basically on autopilot at the moment, and using pre-packaged "announcements" to keep up the fiction that Saddam has things under control.

Whether he's trying to marshall a counterstrike (unlikely) or simply fading into the woodwork of Syria (likely) remains to be seen.

I hadn't about this. Well, they'll be surprised when they can see the coatlition forces on the horizon, and nothing in their way.

The important thing to remember, which duke pointed out, is that once we get the last Iraqi to stop shooting, it wont matter if he's dead or alive. Once the Iraqi citizens KNOW that we're protecting them, I think the ****'s gonna hit the fan in the Bathe' party. Saddam will go down like Mucillini IMO.

I think he's injured. He nailed himself when he congratulated an Iraqi army division in Umm Qasr after it surrendered on "live" TV.

The dudes a survivor and a paranoid..he's not still alive all these years because he's stupid. He's gotta be spooked by bombs that appear put of nowere and come in through a window. Even if the first strike of the war on a command bunker didn't kill him he's gotta be wonderin WTF how'd they do that ? The dude is layin low..seein bombs commin at him from every corner..we be the boogie man....couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
I only wish the Iraqi people get him and give him " Justice" it would be a fitting end and a great picture for all the other despots still in power to digest..
