What the hell is wrong with the GTP server.

I relised that this morning Its taking about 1 minute for it to load on cable! I`m used to it loading in 5 secondes. :(

Yeah?
I noticed it died, during my morning posting?

Although, I think maybe its my fault trying to upload video files too much.

Jeez. Care to botch any more about a FREE service? Give it a friggin break - nothing's perfect. Be thankful it's here at all! I'm sorry there's been trouble, and I missed it while it was down today, but you might try expressing a little sympathy and concern, instead of just pissing and moaning that your free service was unsatisfactory.

If I may be so bold are you just aiming that at everyone in general who has posted here, or just Robin?

Personally I was just curious, because I was having trouble uploading a video and tried doing it several times. After that GTP seemed to go slow and then die. This has seemed to happen when I have tried to upload videos, but its probably just a coincidence.

Roll and eyes indeed.

I really can't put a finger on what has been causing the problem, or what caused our downtime today. The server appears to be running just fine, so I think it is more of a network problem RackShack has been having (they did perform some work on a router today).

Sorry for even MORE downtime tonight...hopefully...I think I might have got it sorted out now.

NOW you're learning. It's never your fault ... there's always someone else to blaim. (:

Of course you may be so bold. I was aiming solely at Robin/_/Dudebusta/whoever opened this thread. There was no call for making such an obnoxious post (or the rest of the obnoxious posts he makes). All he had to say was:

"Hey, I've noticed some outages and slowdowns lately. Is it something on my end, or at GTP? If it's GTP, anything I can do to help?"

Asks the same question, and would be more likely to get an answer, but it also lets Jordan know that we appreciate the service he provides, at his own expense and on his own time.

Hey Robin - to paraphrase Animal House: "Arrogant, obnoxious, and worthless is no way to go through life, son."

hey i reckon jordan does a great job keeping GTP free for all and if he ever introduces any kind of fee, im willing to pay up.

i thought a certain other member was quite pretentious but you take the cake mate, you really do.

get off your horse.

my CPU is too slow for me to notice - except when it doesn't load at all...

3-year-old PC + 56k = slow.

I'm running on digital cable, and a pentium 4 computer. The forums have been unusually slow these past few days, and I know it's not a problem with my computer...

Then you might want to mention that little fact, instead of botching about a little glitch in the service.

Good! If you think I'm being pretentious, then I'm doing my job just right. I can think of no greater compliment you could pay me, Robin. The last thing in the world I want is your approval.

Shove it.

i wasnt complaining, if i was complaining id do a mazkid 250 word post.

no offense to mazkid

I have to agree with neon_duke here. There are ways and means of complaining about things, and if something's free, it's extremely churlish to complain when the provider of that free product is unable to provide it through no fault of their own.

I too have noticed an increase in response times from the GTP server, and obviously have been affected by the downtime, especially since it seems to happen in the early morning UK time, and then run through to the end of the day, which means I have to actually do some work, rather than abusing the company internet connection, but these things are often unavoidable.

As neon_duke says, there are ways to draw this to the attention of Jordan (as if he doesn't already know), and posting a thread entitled "What the hell is wrong with the GTP server" is not one of them. Try something more conciliatory, like "Eek, missed GTP today, glad it's back now", or "Hey Jordan, thanks for bringing GTP back for us".

Never forget that GTP is not a commercial service, it's something that someone is doing in their own time and at their own expense, and we're all getting the benefit of it.

I'am getting sick of this :argue:

Talk about reliability issues? :gtplanet:

GG I respect what your saying but I guess some of us take GTP for granted and therefore do get miffed when this happens?

Yesterday I was all ready to post a new thread and it was going to be a gtp posting day for me cause I had some spare time :clock:

But no...knackered again  and if that wasn't bad enough it was 🤬 all day..

Well that's my rant over

OK, yes, I see here that at the last second, you did ask an actual question. 3 whole words out of 28 total, and the other 25 are complaints.

I recommend that you think about the words you say, preferably before you say them. It'll be tough, I know, but I've seen people here master the art before.

Judging only from your reply to me above, I doubt you'd take it very kindly if someone had posted such a "question" to you.

My opinion, free or not, and I'm not referring to gtp, too many ppl put up with bad service. making something free does not absolve someone of criticism. now, i'm not going to get on jordan's case, i don't have any reason to, but i do not see the argument of "it's free" as enough to justify crap. msn groups can get buggy, i groan about it and will continue to. my messages become screwed up, and screwing up my messages as i'm making them is not eased by msn groups being free (though, i heard basic hotmail costs money now).

One should also be careful of accepting the logic of not looking a gift horse in the mouth. If taken too far it risks that one might accept abuse.

I think Msn are trying to charge users £25 a year for using the service

They promise that everything will run smoothly and that paying up will ensure that all emails sent will be received

I myself think this is total crap >

I think that they purposly messed up the system so that gullible people would pay up

Just another typical microshaft ploy to make more money:mad:

It has the implication of unwillingness to provide arguably necessary elements to their service without payment. oh well, i'm sure it's legal. though, it feels like the proverbial raft without a paddle

If they start providing these services at a charge :2cents:..less people will use it, less users = less effective advertising which is paid for to MSN?

As if they don't have enough money allready the ****'s

I better stop this gates stuff i could be here for weeks going through all their ploys .scemes i hate GATES
now you know that:lol:

I will stop now peace :)
