After seeing the 9/21 update of the OCD, The Chapparal 2J and 2D both show up at ~6.5-7mil. Knowing I might not have this oporotunity again, I am wanting to buy one. Since I dont have 14 million cr on me, I need to pick one.

If you're collecting, you need both. If you're driving, problably the 2D. The gearing on them both is very odd, having only 3 forward gears. Apparently, the 2J is superfast in reverse, if you like that sort of thing.

Both.
TGTT SLS - 1mil
Supercar Nostalgia - 2.5mil
Drift - 2mil
Time Trial - 2mil

There you go - 7.5mil in less than a hour.

It's looks versus speed, the first of which neither wins :D and the second of which goes to the 2J by lightyears.

I would say the 2J, for one, it is a latter model by Chaparrel which one would think would denote improvements. Although it is a ugly car, the 2D is a prettier car, but it won't win any beauty contests either. The 2J is the shape that it is for a reason, it is the probably the car most like the Red Bull X2010/X1 than any other car in the game. It uses a second, much smaller engine solely for the purpose of 'vacuuming' the air from under the car and exhausting it out the rear, which in effect turns the entire bottom of the car into a contact patch with the track surface versus the four small contact patches where the tires contact the track surface. Sadly it only ran one season in 1970 because it dominated so bad that the SCCA banned the use of engines for any purpose other than powering the car itself in 1971 so that's why no one else has used this technology again until the Red Bull X2010/X1

2J never dominated any race since it failed to finish any of them.
In qualifying it was up to 2 seconds ahead of 2nd car but in the actual race it was filled with mechanical problems.
2J was a great concept of a race car which was far ahead of it's time (at least 40 years ahead of it's time), so far ahead that it just wasn't useable back then.

Both :)

But if you had to pick then the 2J

The 2D has monumental turbo lag, the most I've ever seen on a stock car in gt5.

*sigh*
Chaparral has naturally aspired V8 - where the hell do you find turbo lag from?
Learn to differentiate turbo lag from effective powerband.

Both 2D and 2J have 3 speed transmission with very tall gearing which means you get very little power at low revs which translates to poor acceleration and laiman's "turbo lag" when there's no turbo.

heheh I giggled a bit too when i read that turbo lag comment. I was gonna say just don't put a turbo on it then. But i think your post covered it much better. They both aren't bad cars, I just bought them both since the new OCD and have raced them both in the Nostalgia races, tuned down of course to meet regs. The biggest problem i have with both though is i keep trying to downshift past 1st, just not used to 3 gears, lol

You can put a turbo on 2D but I say stock and I take the punishment of looking like an a$$ :)

Nice to see some humility in the forums 👍

Got the 2J at full price some time ago, only did a couple of quick test drives - what a laugh. Look forward to racing it as it doesn't suffer from the real life reliability issues:). I'm defo going to get the 2D from the OCD.

As for the OP - I'd go for the 2J first just because it's so mad - there's nothing else like it. Also, even with a life, grinding a few mil on the seasonals is pretty quick. I still do the Kei car every so often as it's quick and easy and I can do it with my 2 year old climbing on me.

...grinding a few mil on the seasonals is pretty quick.

Eh? Have I been wrong in thinking that the seasonal races only award money and XP once? I thought you just got another race helmet or other such useless item for grinding them?

2D. Jocke Bonnier for the win.

Joakim Bonnier driving a Chaparral 2D in a qualifying session for the 1000 km Nürburgring 1966. The 2D was a closed cockpit variant of the 2 series (which were all open cockpit designs), designed for endurance racing in 1966. It won at 1000 km Nürburgring in 1966 with Phil Hill and Joakim Bonnier driving. It also competed in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, withdrawing after 111 laps.

i have the 2d which is brilliant, and i also bought it for 12mil last week...:ouch: its pretty quick as i leave most of my cars stock, but as stated before, the 3 gear trans can be awkward at times, esp on the 'ring. Looking forward to getting the 2j though! I've never seen it in my UCD

I've been saving for a 2J for about a week, hoping it would show up in the UCD, but yesterday was a REALLY good day, as I bought both the 2J and the 2D for the same money from the OCD.

Just get one than do the Ferrari sarthe seasonal to get more money and get the other. Also thank god you posted this as I need both those cars and have been waiting forever for them to show up. I think I may have all the cars now

Get two of each, then all the others in the OCD. Money is free, you drive a race and get 1/2 mil, repeat. We're so lucky, it used to take 10 hours to earn that cash.

I got both my originals off tickets (1967 for the 2D and L23 for the 2J - thank Ford I didn't buy them full price!) but since my bank is on 20 mil, I'm going to buy another 2J just to clear space for the credits I'll get for the events.

The reason for the 3 tall gears in the Chaparrals is that they had an automatic transmission. It was apparently a carefully hidden secret out at the tracks, they would keep things draped over the engine compartment so their competitors did not know that was the case. Since this is before the days of sequential transmissions and flappy paddles, it actually allowed for faster and more consistent shifts.

As far as which car, I own them both, but rarely if ever drive the 2J. There's hardly a practical application for it. The 2D, on the other hand, is one of my favorite classic race cars to drive. I think of it as the GT40, but more drivable.

Yes!

Special events like SLS Coulthard challenge and NASCAR, the Time and Drift Trials are all one-off.

Normal Seasonals however let you repeat and give you x3 cash (still). You get cash and XP, but I don't think you get the suit helmet etc repeated on the newer ones.

I think a couple of the best ones are still Ferrari Sarthe and Kei car Kart track in terms of credits per min. I do Kei car @ 300K ish credits for just over 3 mins = almost 1 mil in 10 mins. There are threads dedicated to all the calculations.

Fill your boots.

edit: I'm on level 37 A-spec as well, though I'm not bothered about that.

I have seen the 2D in the UCD a couple times and never seen the 2J yet (unless it came up early on in my GT5 driving career and I didn't have the credits).

The 2D is fun to drive and does very well once you get some speed up.

I'm looking forward to driving the 2J when I get some relaxation time.

I tried to buy 2 of them and a message came up "SOLD OUT".

I guess you can't buy two new 0 mile cars from them OCD ;(.

2D is incredible. The only issue with it is that the car's Chevy 327 engine V8 has a ridiculously tall 2nd gear. The car will never reach 3rd gear with any real amount of steam due to the reasons mention earlier. I used this car on the 'Ring and it barely touched 3rd at 164 MPH on the final straight. Granted, the car handles very well and accelerates up to 120 MPH efficiently. I've always been leery due to the 3 transmission gears but due to the fun I had with the 2D (and I have two of the and had them for almost 6 months), I'm going to try out the 2J.

School:dunce:
and, of course, life:indiff:
It takes less than 10 minutes to run the Ferrari La Sarthe seasonal twice for 1 mil credits. Buy either car now then run that seasonal twice a day for a week and you'll have the 7 mil needed to buy the other one. 👍

I'm glad that both the 2D and 2J are in the OCD at a fraction of what they would normally cost. I still don't own either of the Chaparrals, mainly because they rarely show up in my UCD, plus I never seems to have enough credits to buy one of them once they do show up. Right now I'm gunning for both cars seeing as I have more than enough credits.

Heh, fetch em both! ^^ I could use seeing more peoplel with the ever so coveted Chaparrals.

For all Seasonals that I've re-run, you do keep getting the helmet or race suit with each repeated win. The ones you mentioned as one-off are correct though as only giving cash/prize one-time only.

I haven't had a chance to re-run the two latest ones (Mini or Supercar Nostalgia), but most definitely races like the Ferrari la Sarthe, World Compacts, and all others added since the Expert Seasonals appeared (Fiat, Lotus, Subaru), give you cash, xp, and either a helmet or race suit every time you win the race. 👍

Oh BTW, get both of them. I liked the 2D when I was a kid, so I got that one first back in the day, but since it's a 1/2 price sale, might as well get both. ;)
