I recently bought SHIFT, its kind of good, but has its fair share of fail, especially as far as the dumb and unfair ai is concerned. Some may think its just a hard game, but the ai is plain stupid. But the game as a whole is very entertaining and i dont regret that i bought it, especially because of the driver profile and the multiplayer, which i will play a bit more often in the weeks to come.

Uncharted 2 is next on my list, followed by Brütal Legend.

I dont know if i will have enough money to afford more games this fall, but there are definately some games that i really would like to have:
Ratchet & Clank a crack in time
Batman Arkham Assylum
Assassin's Creed II
Demon's Souls

Iam definately NOT going to buy Modern Warfare 2.

For Shift vs. Dirt 2: I like Dirt 2 better, I own it and finished it in 3 weeks, playing at least 2 hours every day, so enough gameplay there.
The feel is just great, and the AI ranges from very easy to impossible to beat.
Haven't played the full Shift, but have played the demo, and I didn't like it.

PS: codemasters are bad at making demos, the full Dirt 2 is a lot better than the demo imo.

The shift demo was horrible aswell, i would have never bought the game based on the demo, but a friend of mine had it and it was a blast. The lower levels 1, 2 and 3 are fun and level 4 basicly gets frustrating. But i got my first platinum trophy with shift and thats not because it was easy, but because it was fun to play.

Iam not sure about Dirt 2, while i liked Dirt 1 i feel that dirt 2 is missing the classic rally racing somehow. Its too much x-games ant to few real world rally stages. I feel like it got watered down to appeal to a broader audience.

COD 6, maybe Uncharted 2, and I was thinking about getting Fallout 3 GOTY edition. And for my racing needs GT5P.

I'm going for the brutal legend. Played the demo and this game AWESOME!!! Loved the Lost Planet 2 demo, but yeah it's 2010 :/

If you are fed up with GT5P then Shift is a good buy. Uncharted 2 is also a great option that is not part of the racing genre.

Shift will last a couple days until you
a) Get fed up with the glitches built in to fast cars
b) Get bored which will happen rather quickly too

If I have any money, I may get Modern Warfare 2, then just lag about the place in online.:p

About racing/driving games, if you have a PS2 you can try Richard Burns Rally (Rally sim), (it's also on PC, with mods).
In PS2 you also can try Kaido Battle series.

Ooou guys, you made it even harder now :D
I'm now really in 'sweet pain'.
Many on you named good games, mainly not racing.
On my wishlist I have others game beside GT5, like: Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian and so on... but that will most possibly be after GT5 (maybe Uncharted 2 will buy sooner, but it depends how money situation will evolve)

I also talked with some of my friends and two of them have Shift (on PC) and both praise it but they are huge NFS series fans (not in my case) but on Dirt 2 I dont have almoust any solid info (beside some of yours comments, thx for that), and it look very fun game even I dont like fact that real rally stages are presented only about 20%. I played a little first Dirt (on PC) and it was OK, but I had really good time with Grid (PC and PS3) and that also have in mind (I didnt own that game, just borrow from friends), but if Grid 2 will be released and continue in similar direction like first one it may be on my wishlist.

So after reading all your posts I still have to decide Dirt 2 or Shift. Other candidates (MCLA, SCC, MS: PR) I will definitively pass (for now atleast).

P.S. One question regarding Shift that also keep me distant from getting it is that in demo there is 3 predefined control types and I didnt like any of them. I always use X for acceleration and [] for brake. So far I didnt bought wheel, but when I does I want to be good (G25 is too expensive for me so searching for good alternative).

Stippe, if you like sim racing games there's only one PS3 option: Supercar Challenge.

But if you are just looking for fun, I guess Shift or Dirt2 can do it.

Racing ''Simulation'': Shift. I only played it with a wheel so it may not help you a lot.
Racing Arcade: Midnight Club LA. Awesome game BTW and you can get it for cheap.
FPS: Modern Warfare 2. COD4 but even better.
Action : Uncharted 2. Just play the online beta.

I tried the Supercar Challenge beta and hated it due to the bizarre FFB they have there. The tracks were also poor models, so that put me off too...

Shift is way better on the PC than the PS3 due to mods, much better graphics (assuming your PC can cope), and I felt that the PS3 version has a bit of input lag when using the wheel which wasn't there on the PC.
Shift's real life tracks are very accurate, apart from the fake stuff added (but the tarmac itself is good). And while Shift isn't superb out of the box, its potential is slowly being unlocked with all of the user mods being released. I just tried realmod 2.0b and the game is getting closer and closer to being a sim like that. Plus it has a fully functional Nordschleife to thrash hypercars round... what's not to love about that!

DiRT 2 on the PS3 is simply a whole lot of fun. The physics may not be ultra-realistic but the cars respond well to a wheel, and everything that happens is predictable, so your driving skills are still put to use. And personally I rather like being able to do awesome powerslides with a quick flick of the handbrake (sequential shifter on my DFGT mapped for it). Richard Burns Rally (on the PC) may be more realistic but it's extremely hard, and sometimes you just want to relax and throw a car round a track without struggling every corner :) Treat DiRT 2 as a semi-serious semi-sim with excellent steering wheel support and enjoy it.

If I only had to get one of the above three, it would depend on which platform.

If you're only after a PS3 game, I'd say get DiRT 2. If you have a modern PC (CPU and graphics card all not more than a couple of years old) then you could consider Shift, but I'd probably recommend Race On instead, since Simbin's latest expansion to Race07 is due out soon and is a better sim offering more tracks and a wider variety of racing styles (I'm talking about buying the box for Race On which includes Race07 and STCC, but if you like them you'll also end up getting GTR Evo expansion pack off Steam too for Nordschliefe thrills).

Operation flashpoint. If they add some more multi player maps then I may not even get the new COD. It's got online co op that you can play the entire campaign with. If you haven't heard of it, and you like very tactical shooters, then it is the game to get.

I bought Dirt 2. Yes, not really a sim. But, for an arcadish game, it's fun. Graphics are sweet. Dirt, water, & mud show up on the cars. The game could really use a car modification feature.

I got NFS Shift to hold me over until GT5, but it's not working out for me.

Dirt 2 is a lot of fun but there isn't enough to keep me busy for very long.

I did just grab a used copy of GT4 for PS2. playing it with a Logitech G27 is quite nice. It Should last me quite a while.

I agree with the people suggesting Supercar Challenge, it may not be the prettiest game but in my opinion it is easily the best online racing i've experienced on PS3. Another underestimated game is WRC, do not dismiss this game, if you like rallying then you need this game. Group B dlc a must buy, peugeot 205 T16 evo 2 is a handful but great fun. Dirt 2 was good but i have now traded since WRC. As for Forza 3, on xbox 360. If you want to play with a livery editor then this is the game for you, you will be disapointed with this game if you're looking to race online. Forza 2 does online racing better. I haven't switched my xbox on for ages now & wont be paying for xbox live again.

IS GOOD FUN!

GRID. Great online, if you're stressed play demolition derby, good le mans endurance racing, everything from demo derby to GT1 racing!

Castlevania Lord of shadows is a long game im having fun with that right now.Killzone 2 is another one. Need for speed Hot pursuit should be out very soon also

You're better of with Forza 3 or Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Both are quite entertaining especially online.

Need for Speed Shift is garbage. Don't bother. And maybe the same case for the incoming new NFS game.
