I'm road tripping out to NYC next week (i hope) and I need suggestions/ideas on what to do, where to go, and where to stay.
We'll arrive in NYC around 10ish on the 25th and leave by or after lunch on the 27th.
I haven't been able to find a decent hotel online yet, but I doubt anyone in the group will agree to more than $200/night for a room and that's on the upper end of the price list. Because of that, I was thinking of staying in NJ and taking the ferry services... would that work for us? How late do they run? I don't want us to get stuck in NYC the first night because the last ferry already left. From the schedules online, the ferry will be unavailable past 10pm... which is waaay too early for us.
How about stuff to see/do on the 26th? I've never been to the city, and i'm going with a group of guys. We're just heading out to celebrate my graduation and to take a load off our school work.
So you're coming to the jungle huh?

, well welcome aboard buddy

👍
First of all, have a read at
this post, then make a checklist of the places you don't wanna miss, and finally make a timed schedule, trust me, if you organize yourself prior going out, you'll have a much better time.
Second of all,
get a map; there are plenty of them online and if possible, print out or buy one that has listed the major attractions of the city near the legend. If you're not able to do that, just google the place where you wanna go, write down the address and phone number, and you're all set.
These are basic guidelines, but whether you believe it or not, tourists still make silly mistakes than cost them time and money; like forgetting cameras, maps, phones, etc...
Third of all; In the city, you CANNOT get lost. It takes a
retard to get lost in the city. If you ever wonder where you are, what subway to take, how to get to some place, (and if you have the address of your destination), just ask anybody, where the nearest subway is, then just head down there, and take a look a the HUGE map that's always posted on the wall. It will help you out big time. 👍
As far hotels/motels are concerned, where do you want to stay near to? If you're not looking to spend less than 200 bucks a night, then I strongly recommend taking Midtown out of the question; it's way too expensive, yes, nice and all but as seeing that you are likely to have a tight schedule, you'll barely spend time there.
If you wanna stay near the Downtown area, (which is also expensive but not as much as midtown) I recommend the
Sohotel New York, which will charge you a fee of around 150 a night for three adults. It has a good service, the bedrooms are enough of what you need I'd say, and it's close to all the nice store, bars in the downtown area. That was the closest one to my apartment BTW, and I had some friends who came from Boston to stay there. No complaints at all.
Please don't stay in Jersey. Nothing wrong with it, but you will only be staying 2 days dude, you can't waste too much time on transportation, save yourself that hassle.
I don't wanna tell you too much because it's nice to have that New York experience of discovering new things to do and places to go. So like I said, make a list, get a map, addresses and phone #s and you
will be fine.
If you need more choices on hotels and stuff, just let me know. I'll PM you my phone number if you want, just in case something bad happens, like a street bum stealing all your luggage (which is a non rarity here) j/k, or something else.
Visit my house.
There's not much else that could top that, but go sight-see. Time Square, Statue of Liberty, etc.
Go to the Village and get hammered, but make sure you understand the risks of walking into "Any old bar"
Also, totally go to John's house, (although I warn you that you might get freaked out, due to the huge Initial D memorabilia that is displayed in your face at John's basement, it's just too overwhelming) other than that, you'll have fun 👍
exigeracer
Skip the statue of Liberty. It's out of the way and you'll end up wasting a good half day seeing it.
Erm....
emad, if you have time on your schedule, please
do not do that ^. If you can wake up very early the morning of the 27th, I guarantee you that you will be done with the Statue of Liberty ALONG with Ellis Island, in no time. 👍 Been there, done that.
Anything else, let me know.
EDIT: I have never, EVER, heard anybody calling NYC, "town"

not even non-New Yorkers do that.
"town" bahahaha!...
