What Tune ups can be done in gt4

Many people in here know pently about cars but they talk about them in the automotive forum like me. When Im here I just ignore things like the spark plugs in diesels, rotorys with camshafts and pistons, and muffler bearings etc, because lots of the time the poster intentionly wanted to sound stupid... as a joke.

True, but those only do anything when the engine is cold to help start it up, and not once its warmed up. When they are used, yes, they are very similar to spark plugs. But, since not all diesel engines use them, and they only get used when cold, its not really the same. Someone was thinking waaaay to hard about this. And, don't get me started on the cc temp thing again 👍

Hey - imagine being able to put higher performance spark-plugs in your diesel BMW 120d. That'd be cool!

XXX service could make heaps if they pulled this lark on the un wary.
The conversation goes this way.

Karl : Good morning Inga, this is Carl from XXX Heidleburg calling.
You have a 120d in for service, ya.

Inga : Ya, that is correct. The engine is running a liitle rough, ya.

Karl :Ya, that is why I am ringing, you need four new spark plugs. Do I have your permission to fit them.

Inga : Will it fix the car .

Karl : Ya.

Inga : How much do they cost ?

Carl : This week they are on special for 100 euro for 4.

Inga: Ya please fit them.

Carl replaces the dirty oil filter and air filter and cleans one blocked injector.

He makes out his invoice to cover this and also adds the 4 Spark plugs.

Inga Picks up her car, pays the bill noticing the four spark plugs have been added. She drives the car away and notices how much better the engine is now running. Inga knows that all cars have spark plugs and feels very happy with the service she has recieved.

Well, we are discussing tuning related issues. And, since everyone, including myself, was just talking elbow grease, blinker fluid, and canooter valves, I think REAL engine tuning is pretty valid. And, last time I checked, there were a couple diesel cars shown as going to be in the game. So, it is related.

I understand that you guys want to display your automotive knowledge but not here. and please dont make people that dont have such great automotive knowledge feel inferior.

So, since we have a fairly large ammount of automotive knowledge, we can't talk??? Is that it??? Because you don't want us to hurt feelings???? I'm sorry, I must have missed the memo that stated that this site was going "100% No Real Info" from now on. I think you are taking this way too serious. Just because we explain something in detail, it doesn't mean that we're talking down to people, or trying to show off. But, if you'd rather have more 'blinker fluid' and 'canooter valve' talk, then be my guest. I'll just sit back and watch as everyone yuks it up talking about nothing game related.

i never tried to act superior to anyone. just made a comment cuz people were being stupid with their "funny" jokes. if my info is stupid, then what are those stupid cliches? and jnasty, we can start on cc temps again any time u want. u are yet to show me anything other than some personal gauge readings or engine info that is loosely thrown around like "rich a/f's cool engines"...not realizing that this applies to one stroke, not the result of all four like ive said many times before. anyway, got way off topic, jnasty is right...if we want to throw out some knowledge, its not being cocky, we're trying to enlighten so that people dont try to turn gt4 into an arcade game with ridiculous suggestions that they heard happen to cars. i know they have zero impact on KY but the suggestions are still dumb sometimes. if u guys wanna look down on me and jnasty, go ahead...spend time kissing the asses of members that only post about stupid crap and mention every repost ever or tell people to search every time a topic comes up. theyre wasting server space with those stupid posts and complain about people wasting server space in the very same post. so then u have a page full of people telling someone to search and/or ridiculing that person. tell me that that isnt trying to make someone feel inferior. i'll continue to make automotive applicable comments and im pretty sure jnasty will too. i should start ending all of my posts with...--"this is a simulator right?"

I was kidding. I don't want to start down that road again. Like I said before in that thread. I don't dispute what your saying as correct. I've just never seen it happen that way with cars that I've worked on. Thats all, end of topic.

I think what we are trying to say is, how is it that people get soooo upset when we have a somewhat related discussion, when every other thread there are people getting ridiculed and yelled at for posting some info or a topic that has been covered before. Like jr93 said, every time that happens, its a given that there will be like 15 people posting telling that person they're a dumbass, about 2 or 3 people showing them old threads that they should have read instead of a new topic, and maybe 2 people actually replying to the original topic. Thats silly. We have a discussion about diesel engines, which ARE going to be in the game and be able to be tuned, and people tell us to change threads????? Come on!!!! And that even after just about everyone on here made jokes about immaginary car parts and things of that nature. Its just a silly way to go about things. If the people that run this board want to really start cutting down on the 'crap' here, they have much more to worry about than me and another member talking game related automotive issues in the GT4 forum.

if I had known that my little canooter valve jab was going to start 2 pages of the same joke followed by this crap I wouldn't have bothered.

in all seriousness, i would like to see the following, which I feel would be a good balance between in-depth tuning & simplicity:

- in the tuning shop, a dyno graph is displayed on the right side, very similar to the dyno graph that was displayed in the 'select parts' menu on vehicle setup in GT1 (or was it GT2?), only more detailed/larger.

as you adjust the variables on the car, there is an 'after' line (in different color obviously) for HP & Torque on the dyno that reflects what those changes will be after the change.

For example, lets say you are going to adjust the lift & duration of the intake cam. As you adjust the sliders, the dyno changes in real time. After you make all the changes you want, you hit 'OK', and the money is spent/parts are installed.

Also, I think certain settings should cost money every time you change them, unless you go back to a previous setting you had before. Spring rates are a good example of this.

(edit: perhaps cam profile & timing would be a bit complicated to be included, so it could be simplified into 'agressiveness' & 'timing')

Maybe a bit of both, You could have presets for people that dont understand, or you could manually adjust them. For people that dont know but want to learn, it would be nice to have a good description in the game.

So this HASN'T been discussed anymore... well, that means lesser rants on my boy Eagle for when something already mentioned, right?

Anyhow, I'm not sure about this topic. We'll see when the retail version comes out. Who knows? Maybe adding the right color fluffy dice can make a difference in performance. I'm afraid I have nothing serious to mention. I'll get back with you on this one.
