What type of shoes go with sweater vests?

My fixation with sweater vests has caused me to plan to buy one soon.

I'll probably be wearing a dress shirt, with a sweater vest over it, and a pair of jeans. I have a pair of Converse (Chuck Taylors) and a pair of Nike Shox.

What type of shoes would go with this sweater vest style? I really don't want to buy new shoes, to be honest.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback.

But I'm a little unsure of dress shoes, as I plan to wear this to school. I'm not sure wearing dress shoes during a non-special occasion would bode well. I guess I'm just going for a casual look.

Black leather Chucks with black laces, Adidas Rod Laver Classics (in white) or some PF Flyers.

My Chucks are the felt material that they normally come it. It has orange laces (which I can change) and has a red and green strip. Odd colours, I know.

My Nike Shox are leather, and dominately white with a bit of blue.

I'm really not looking to buy new shoes. Could I wear either one of these, and pull them off? I was thinking about getting changing the laces to white, so that the Chucks look like the classic black-white ones, with a slight difference with the red/green.

If you look carefully you can pick them up for $20-30 in some places. Ralph Lauren has a new shoe line with a similar look, all of those retail for less than $50 everywhere I've been.

The kind you don't get laid in.

EDIT: Seriously though, make sure they're nice jeans that aren't really baggy, and I'd say some brown boots or boat shoes like YSSMAN mentioned would be fine.

I think a pair of khakis would be betta, though.

My Red Ferrari Pumas.

Lucky sonovabitch... I was in an outlet mall in Pennsylvania and asked about them, and they said that there were only ~10 in size 13, and didn't know if any were in LA.

The Converse would be ok.

Straight-leg jeans or khakis are KEY to get the vintage look right. I'd go with Levi 511 or 514s ($25-35) on the jeans, and don't be afraid to get them a little short or to roll them up just a bit. As far as khakis go, take the time to find a good fit, and at all costs avoid cargos with this look. I'd suggest The Gap ($45 is usually the sticker price) to get a nice clean cut, otherwise, you can occasionally find good stuff at Macy's on sale.

Side thought:

Chords. Seriously. Don't get them with a thick rib, but the smaller, thinner kind. Gray or Khaki would be the best colors to wear all-around, and you can usually get a nice pair of straight-leg ones for $30-50 depending on where you shop. Again, I'd suggest Levi or Gap, but its different for everyone.

One more side thought:

You can do shorts too, if you like. Make sure they're a clean cut (not pleated), and truly are shorts. To look "right," they'll need to sit just above or right on your knee. Anything longer and you look like an idiot. No cargo shorts either... I've got a pair of shorts from Structure that I love to death that do the job, otherwise, it seems like Dockers (no joke) and Gap tend to cater well to that need.

You're kidding, right? If you want to be a real man, you get yourself a pair of Aldens.

KLABAM!

Of course, if you're like me and can't afford them, well then you can't afford to be seen in a sweater vest either.

Too true, sadly. I overlook most leather shoes because, in fact, I am quite poor.

I actually have two pairs of skinny jeans actually. Well not too skinny, but considering I weigh only 110 pounds, I assume their skinny to the majority of people.

First one is a pair of Blue Guru jeans which I'm not so fond of, and the other is a pair of American Eagle jeans with slight rips, which I just love. I'll probably get another pair of dark blue jeans when I go back to school.

If you can get Levi jeans, I swear on my Mother's name that they are the best jeans you can buy for the money. They look good on just about everyone, so I'd highly suggest the 511s or 514s. Although, I've had a hard time finding them in the colors I want all the time. Gray comes to mind...

The women's clothing brand? Surely this is something from down under...

Ah, I see. We definitely don't have that brand up here. Hell, those prices don't seem very "cheap" either. Considering most pairs of Levis run less than $50, they're a steal in my book.
