i was just wondering wut everyone's view was on "riced-out" cars:crazy:
i would consider a ricey car as a car wit Huge rims, big ugly wings and bright neons

wut would u consider a "ricey" car to be, comment and tell me, id like to no before i ever get my car .

dood i wuld call it u need 2 lern 2 type.

Seriously, proper spelling and typing is greatly encouraged here at GTP. And so is the search function - This subject has been covered 99232989324 x 3 times.

They ran a good article in Sport Compact Car a couple years ago about the 'origins of Rice.'

It covered the principle of modifying cars. The basis of it all was pretty much imitating Race cars. Think about it. Big wings, lowered suspension, loud exhaust etc etc. I'll elaborate on this tomorrow, I'm in no state to make a coherant post right now.

As McLaren said... tuning your car with parts that don't add to its performance but make it look like a race car.... and parts that don't have any performance function at all, like neon lights and sound equipment.
If you have a car with 400 hp a wing,a body kit, low suspension, loud exhaust, maybe even some tuning company decals etc are not rice. Put the same parts on a low performance car, add neon light and we're getting into the rice area imo. It always depends...
Clear indicators are : neon, gigantic wheels ( negative for performance ), extreme low suspension, venyls ;)

Most ricer cars are designed to look awesome and perform horribly. A large majority of them are extensively visually-tuned Japanese sports coupes.

Think of huge chrome rims, spinners, big ugly wings, bright neon lights, unusual paint jobs, lowered suspensions, loud exhausts, loud sound systems, and outrageous body kits.

Here is a list of some classic ricer cars...

Nissan Skyline
Mitsubishi Lancer
Nissan Silvia
Honda Integra
Honda Civic
Windows XP Home Edition
Toyota Levin AE86
Toyota Trueno
Mitsubishi Mirage
Nissan Pulsar GTi-R
McLaren F1

Anything thats horribly ugly.
If you tastefully modify it, and dont have any performance mods, that can be excused. But it has to be VERY tasteful, or else  kill it!!!

I'm not so sure this list is accurate.

Let's not get into this.. It's their money, so technically we can't belittle them for how they choose to spend their money.

(But, it is fun to poke fun at them behing their backs, isn't it?:dopey: )

If you have to ask, you are probably at risk for being a ricer. .

You can't make generalizations across the board on what is rice. Some things look good on some cars and don't on others, but you know rice when you see it.

Open up an issue of Sport Compact Car or Import Tuner Magazine, and you should get some ideas of what most folks will call "ricer" levels of "style."

Too many sponsor stickers, bright paint colors, wheels that are too big for the car they are on, steros that have too much power that will never be used, fart-cans on the back, Altezza lights on crappy cars, etc.

Given, there are some good looking "ricer" cars out there, but it of course is a matter of your own personal tastes. I like my cars pretty plain and simple, hence the love of the Euro-tuner crowd. I wouldn't want any decals, a rather quiet exhaust, wheels no larger than 18", and a very low spoiler on the back.

I don't mind the big spoilers and chrome rims and fart exhausts if they are put together well and don't look like crap. If its ugly and obviously not put together right its ricy.

If a McLaren is a ricer, then we all have no right to talk about ricers being slow.

Have some commonsense. 600+ Horsepower is not rice.

a car, typically japanese, with rediculous body modifications, also a spray painted interior, of which is stock...i live in a town of these guys, i will start taking pictures:yuck:

heh. all those transparent case with oval minimal taillights are considered "rice". if they'd just make taillight buckets that were all clear (what my catalongs are calling "euroclear"), THEN we'd be in business.

since these projector lamps- a la beamers- are showing up everywhere, they're starting to come up in my mind as "rice"...what do europeans call ugly tuners?

i've seen less import rice than I have american rice. usually cavaliers and neons riced to death. mabey we oughta call ours "rice-a-Roni"?

Well, whenever I hear/see a 'Ricer.' The usuall tell-tale signs that I see are.

Huge exhaust, grey primed-only body kit, huge/unnecessary wing, and speakers that sound like crap but "thump."

RIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicer
