What would you think if Cr payout wasn't determined by finishing position...

But rather by some kind of ranking system where if you finished higher than the game thought you should be ranked you got paid a good amount?

One thing I find very limiting with GT is the way it's setup:

Start you at the back of the pack

Make AI cars too conservative on brakes and in corners

Put at least one powerful car in the race

This requires you to have a pretty hefty car to pass all the stupid AI and beat the legitimate competition car in the race. While it's fun to try and win in a lower powered car and of course passing is some of the most fun in racing, it also reduces a lot of races to a need to bring a gun to a knife fight so you don't waste your time on a race that pays out little or nothing when you don't place.

The biggest problem being that there is a VERY small window in which the car you bring will put you in a close fight for first for a large portion of the race... most cars will either not be able to get or hold a lead (without dirty poker) on first or blow by first and leave him in the dust.

What I think would be cool is if your car was ranked and it said "In this field, we would expect this vehicle to finish 6th of 12.

If you managed to finish 3rd you get paid like first pays now. If you finished 6th you get paid like 3rd place pays now etc...

This would reduce the feeling of need to bring the overpowered car to the race and let you have fun being in the middle of the pack rather than a repetitious: fly by everyone to the front, fight your way into first and then race the rest of the race with no one in site.

I personally enjoy being in the middle of the pack in a mid range car fighting with the pack and not necessarily winning, but when trying to grind Cr and not miss a used car you can't really do that in good concience...

What do you think?

It's not a bad idea. But why not just a proper racing system? It's a racing game.

That would indeed be amazing. I have a lot of cars that don't really fit in any of the events, but I'd like to race them and earn money while doing it. (ie not race them in arcade mode)

You mean with qualifiers and evenly matched grids?

I think that would be good too... but that still never leaves you with having a good time in the middle of the pack, the goal is always to get in front and stay in front.

While I like getting in front and staying in front, it does get kind of boring after a while... and a Cr by ranked car event would allow you to still do the get in front stay in front thing with the more powerful cars. I mean you know those battles for 6th and 7th place can be as interesting or more than the one for first...

Heck maybe they could even tone DOWN the first place Cr for bringing a ridiculously overpowered car... then again maybe not that part :)

If cr was proportional to race spec it would be fine. No way should a 4 hour endurance race award 32000, while a 5 lap 5 minute race around daytona should award 90000!

There would be too many variables if it was on a dynamic scale.

The best way to do it is restrict tyres, engine size, turbos, weight etc like they do in real life racing. I put sports tyres on a 1040hp Toyota Minolta and let it loose in some championship, I mean that's just ridiculous. How would the system work if I entered a Daihatsu Midget in the All Stars cup, what prize money do I get etc?

I do agree with the going past everyone in sight comment, I've had better and closer races on Grand Theft Auto 4 sub games. I have to say probably my favourite races are the one make format. The Gallardo or Lupo cup were both great as I couldn't afford to fully tune the car and tried to use my wits to do battle, that was more exciting than crushing everyone with a Veyron or R10.

You see it's also a game though, so you can't just have a racing system. There needs to be a game aspect of it.

What does that mean? Racing is a game. It's done for fun and nothing else. The sentence after the colon is an aside and may be ignored: I may be an extreme case, but 99% of "game" aspects are what subtract from the fun. Also, what I mean by racing system in the context of GT is qualify and practice options.

Qualification on its own completely removes the need to handicap AI or add a nonsense automatic-win-AI-car to a race to provide a challenge. And if the AI is up to par, then no matter what position you start in, you're going to need to battle for the entire race.

I see where you're coming from, but if the AI is really good, then qualifying in first will not always be possible. And if I remember correctly, GT1 qualification used some method that greatly exaggerated AI performance. Something like that could be used in GT5, though it would be uneeded with good AI.

EDIT

Perhaps combining your payout system with qualification would work.

This died pretty quick. I thought it was a pretty good topic.

Also, I seriously want to know what "game aspect" means.

I really find disturbing that a 4 hour endurance race only pays 210,000 credits, when I can earn 238,000 credits in about 10 minutes doing the American championship race twice. This gives no incentive to the gamer to tackle such events. I feel cheated. Even the new seasonal events pay you more than the endurance races do.

Or maybe getting the AI to match your cars?
If you bring an X1, the AI would have X1's as well, even in the Sunday Cup, but the AI would be on easy mode since it is the Sunday Cup after all.

Same here! I tried some of my misfits in the one-make race in Practice Mode in GT Life and didn't get cash or EXP for winning... it was disappointing for sure!

But it would be great if we had something like GT2's event generator...

Pay out reduction/increase would be nice for assists chosen ala Forza.
PD need a better system of grouping the cars via power weight ratio.

Go to arcade and use a recommended car and you will get some good races.
Use one of your own cars though and it's a mixed bag.

I did an experiment to check the difficulty levels of ABC system.
I thought a good track to try it out on would be Daytona speedway as it's full throttle all the way around.

I choose my Alfa TZ. Only 170 ish BHP but I love that car.
Anyhow highest difficulty rolling start band AI leave me for dust.
Medium difficulty. Bang AI leave me for dust.
Lowest difficulty. Guess what happened.

One interesting thing though. The AI didn't seem to brake on the start fininsh line at Daytona.

Choose a recommended car and it's alot closer. Seems to prove the game doesn't know what AI to put against you.

Sorry D for rambling. Probably needs it's own thread.

The payout should stay the same no matter what car you drive. However, the experience gained should be greatly affected. For example, 1st place Sunday Cup with a Lupo should give way more experience than if you won in an X1. Similar to the A-spec points in GT4.
