Does inaccurate hand movement animation bother you?

  • Yes i want steering wheel degrees to match animation degrees.

full 900 (on road cars, since race cars use less than 900) is a must for me, as is the option to run a steering wheel with either a 200 or 900 lockstop to make driving the race cars/road cars realistic

No. This has been the case with nearly all racing games and i can live with it.

Just saw some Forza 3 in car vids. You can't even get close to 180 degree wheel movement. More li ke 90 degrees

Doesnt look like they have this thing perfected yet.

Ok now that everybody is whining, it is time for me to bring up the big guns; The 1:1 steering animation poll!!!

That image was taken in September 2009 when PD had an open house during TGS. You'll also notice in the video that there's no real time shadows with the dashboard view. It's because it's an test (alpha) version of GT5.

Looking at that vid of the G25... Anyone else find their DFGT slow? sorry to be abit off topic, just a quick question is all :P

180 degrees hand movements are not polished in latest gameplay videos so far (thumbs dive into steering wheel etc.), so we really can't expect 1:1 in the final release. However, GT5 has the greatest interior view ever! :dunce: I mean shadows, animations, feeling. It's a step forward. 👍 While 800 cars without interior view is a step backwards... :scared:

The G25 and G27 have better internal gearing so they're easier to spin, especially quick motions. This is why I got rid of my DFP in favor of a G25. Much better. 👍

Back on topic, I've always loved LFS's 1:1 motion ingame. It really does add to the immersion and feel of the cars. I hope PD sorts it out soon...weren't there earlier GT5 vids back before Prologue that showed pretty good hand-over-hand animations in cockpit view?

In race mode I would rather have just the dashboard with working instruments since there is always going to be lag with the shifting animation no need to show the hands and wheel. In replay mode with interior view I would like to see the wheel so that I can see how the actual handling and steering input is being handle and if they can't get the animation right then just the wheel would be enough. Exterior mode in replay would be a good thing to show the cross hand steering since it would be hard to see the flaws in animation.

I strongly believe the animations we've seen so far are just temporary and that we'll get full hand animations to match 900 degrees rotation.

Baically, the cockpit view should have...

1. 1:1 steering animations
2. Adjustable steering wheel angle (PC sims do this via the logitech profiler, GT5 needs some sort of similar option
3. Adjustable seat position and field of view like PC sims
4. Adjustable virtual HUD (ie. you can turn parts or all of the virtual HUD off)

I might have missed something :p

How about the option for no steering wheel on-screen at all? I already laid out big bucks for my Fanatec, no need for me to see 2mb worth of cheap graphics and animations when I got the real thing in my hands, and my hands ;) lol

The demos above date back to early 2009 as far as builds go

anyway greater range of motion shown here, with hand over hand at 1:50
The hands cross over but then displace back to normal after a while. Don't know why they got rid of it for GT5:P, it looks ok to me.

The arms are everywhere which looks horrible. The latest GamesCom footage however is ridiculous as well. I think the animations are so stiff the wheel is barely even moving in the corners. Looks very arcadish in my opinion.

The optimum thing would be if we could adjust the in-game wheel rotation and remove the arms from the screen as in iRacing and rFactor.

Now, do I believe Kaz and PD are smart enough to think about these things? Sadly, no.

Well, I don't personally care. I do prefer the GT4 animations, though the clipping through the wheel that surfaced in GT5 builds with those animations is a bit odd.

However, I respect that some people find it a useful aid, whilst at the same time others are completely distracted by the on-screen wheel.

Therefore my vote is for multiple cockpit views, as somebody else mentioned. So I wasted my vote ;)

Again, what's so hard about making an option to remove the driver and making the in-game wheel mimic your movement? Options should be there to satisfy as many as possible. Please PD, make this an option.

Some of you may think it looks odd to have a only the wheel without driver, but I think it's the only right thing to do. I've played rFactor a lot lately which has the wheel only, and I think it feels and looks so much better.

Time to take out the steering animation thread again :) I really hope PD could at least put GTHD animation as an option to GT5 with an update. First page on this thread illustrates the problem if someone still does not know.

If only the hand and arm didn't block the view some in full lock it wouldn't really bother me.

I won't be using the cockpit view much, so it doesn't really bother me.

But actual input should be accurately shown on screen.

Because to me it is unnatural to see two steering wheels and two sets of hands when driving a car... and for you?

Problem to me is that the wheel on screen is not doing what i do with my wheel and it disturbes my brain. Hood view for all cars would ok temporary solution(no wheel to distract me and right view to road also.)

GT4 hand 1:1 steering animation, GTHD had 1:1 steering animation, GT5:P beta had 1:1 steering animation. It is stupid to take 1:1 animation OPTION away for GT5 :(

A 360 degree wheel animation will make cockpit driving more realistic.

But my point is driving while seeing two sets of hands and two steering wheels is not "realistic" in the first place

That's fair enough, but is it really natural controlling a car on a small screen when sat in a room using replica controls? Just putting it all into context, it is just a game and I often fail to see what people expect.
