Some girl wants me to tutor her. Apparently my old professor is giving away my info to all his students that need help. So what's a reasonable rate that I should charge for organic chemistry tutoring? I'm thinking like $30/hour would be nice. The adjuncts charge 40 or 45, and I spent 30/hour on a tutor once when I was in organic I as well. Is that a lot? I mean, I split the 30 bucks 4-ways with other people so I thought it was good. Not sure I would've forked out $30 by myself though. That said, should I tell her, like, $25 if she meets me and $30 if I meet her?

Is it appropriate to ask what someone would feel comfortable paying instead of just outright dropping a price? The main thing is that I want to appear busy so that I can get paid well for my time, but I don't want her to be like, "oh, that was a lot of money and I didn't get much out of it," and then not ever call me again for more sessions. I need moneys here.

Help out your favorite broe, guys.

organic chemitry tutoring?
Is that something new the kids are doing these days? ;)

Thirty seems awfully high to me, but then again I'm notoriously cheap. Also, will she be paying this all herself or, like you did, be splitting it?

Edit: A quick look shows that $30 is fairly economical. And that was 4 years ago. :scared:

Charge away, Marc. Charge away.

Yeah I looked up some services and people are charging like 50 bucks lol. But that's because the listing service takes a cut too I suppose.

Your pricing seems pretty good. I would go slightly lower (20/25). Yahoo answers it telling me that 10/15 is more common. However if peopler are paying that 40/45 for those ("adjuncts??") (I don't know what they are). If you can undercut them then people may come to you instead and it would be better. However how the question is do you want to tutor, if not then you won't have the interest to help as much as someone who is interested. (Hope you get what I mean).

Thats my 2 cent.

Adjuncts meaning adjunct professors. Adjuncts are like the middle-rank between pro tutors and full-fledged, permanent professors.

Ah, cool, I'm not yet at uni level so that term kinda stumped me.

Think of them as the mercenaries of academia.

I'm not sure what the tutorials are worth in dollars but when I do private tutoring I have no problem negotiating a price before hand. I'll have a mark that I won't go below, start high and then meet half way. It depends on the ability of the student and what exactly they want to study as to how I price my hours.
My bottom line is the equivalent to around 20 UK pounds. It's a lot for where I live but I'm one of the best in town so customers pay for that. If you have the ability and experience to do the job then set a price you think is worthy of your time.

If she's hot, do it for kisses! :D

Depends. I had a tutor when I was 9 and my parents paid 15 dollars an hour. My first 3 tutors were f:censored: hot and I paid attention to everything they said, I had 80s and 90s in all my classes. I would purposefully messup assignments so I could go to my tutor more. My dad knew what I was doing, he was proud. But when my mom found out I stopped going to that tutor and a friend of her's tutored me instead. For 30 dollars an hour, now learning sucks because I don't have a hot tutor. Anyway 15 to 30 dollars an hour for a tutor is acceptable, but I agree with SRV2LOW4ME, if she's hot, just do it for kisses. :D

I think the pricing is good, maybe 5 dollars too high if you really make use of that hour. I know people who get charged more than that for algebra tutoring

Well, I got $25 lined up for the first meeting. Thursday. Pray for hotness.

I think if you're prepared to just do the work in the time allocated then you should charge bottom-rate. That is to just do whatever they bring to the hour or help with their problems.

If you're prepared to invest more time and create learning or revision tools then you should certainly charge more per hour.

But errr, be prepared to be surprised how stupid people can be.

Organic chemistry?

Bro, I don't think she wants to be tutored. I think she wants to tutor you...;)

EDIT: Hopefully she's not scared of giants.
