Before I get flamed I did a search and found nothing on this topic.
I always see in the wishlists that everyone wants more premium cars. I don't really see the big deal besides the fact that you can take them on photo shoots and buy rims. Could someone please elaborate on this for me?

First of all, most of the premium cars are either post 2005 race or road cars. Furthermore, they give you the choice of using the cockpit view.

a car without cockpit view = garage queen (atleast in my game, eventhough there are exceptions like a beautiful CLK LM or GT40)

Personally, I enjoy driving (not racing) using cockpit view with the map and instruments turned off. I turn up the volume and occasionally use 3D and immerse myself in the simulation aspect of GT5. Currently I am trying to drive the Mark IV race car around the Nurburgring in this fashion.

It's a personal thing really, most seem to like the cockpit view, I don't, I use a wheel & find it a bit jarring to see two steering wheels & the animated drivers hands moving differently to mine, so I don't find the cockpit view as immersive.
So I guess the only differences between standard & premium cars are, cockpit view, premiums look better & can have custom rims.

So it's the detailed cockpit view then, I can see why so many people want more.
It's actually about the cockpit view for me. The detail is just a bonus. Although, sometimes there is blurriness for some parts which is really annoying. I can only stand the hood view and not the bumper cam, because it feels so awkward seeing absolutely nothing in front of you.

I use bumper cam only so in theory I shouldn't really care about the standard v. premium thing.
However, I can't help feeling a little hard done by after spending all that money on PS3, HDTV, GT5 etc. only to be greeted by PS2 graphics on 4/5 of the game's cars.
So I will join the thousands who have already said...

More premiums err...please?

I just like the fact you can add body kits/aero stuff, change the wheels, and can use photo mode with them (proper photo mode, not on-track one).

Buy a Premium 71 Mustang Mach 1. Put all 3 different exhaust systems on it. Each is different: Racing is side exhaust, Semi is Side pipes (very cool), and sport is rear exhaust.

There are some other premiums that change depending on the items you buy for it...2010 Camaro for instance.

These are little things for sure. But, it's the details that make the premiums more desirable to me.

I, myself am not too fond of the cockpit view, the reason I have a like to the Premium cars is the level of detail at the exterior.

Mostly customization for me, most have body kits available, some have racing modifications, and not just changeable wheels, but paint-able. Standards have magical wheels that cannot even be painted... go figure.

Next to the sometimes very bad graphics, not being able to paint the wheels on standards is one of the things that annoys me most about them.

1. Premium cars have much higher polygon counts and thus look more detailed.
2. Cockpit view is fun to drive with
3. Ability to customize wheels
4. Aero parts/Race Mods
5. Paint colors look better on premiums

For 5 years of dev, I thought they would be able to model each car's dash pretty well. Especially since Forza did it in around 2.

When it comes to racing, I don't see a difference at all between standards and premiums, they are all just as fun to drive.

The difference as I see it is more to the "owning" of the car. I get a better feeling of actually having the car when I can go to cockpit view and look around and enjoy all the great design. Also, as others have said already, the customization options are much greater for premium cars. The overall detail of the premiums also makes them more interesting to look at.

(Also details such as windscreen wipers and high beams/low beams/flashing lights (even if they're all just semi-manual) are nice things)

People always want the better thing, and the premiums are better than standards, cockpit view, clear details, and if I am not mistaken standard brakes to glow red.
