If I want to showcase the beauty of GT5 graphics to my friends, both visually and technically, in terms of detail richness, lightning, realism, what tracks can you advice to me?

For me, technically, I mean, all related to graphics effects, I would say, that the wet Highway at night with rain is the most impressive, but, well, it's at night, so you don't see so much from the car or the interior itself and the track is repetitive.

Alps, London? Anything that hasn't been out in older GT games yet?
It doesn't need to be a world track or city course.

Go to the new car showroom and buy yourself a Fiat 500 (the old one), then go to practice mode and do a one-make race: one lap of the Nurburgring 24H (with change time and weather). Turn the race info display completely off, even the track map.

Start the race, but don't set off for around 30 seconds. This is enough so that you will catch the AI up right at the end of the lap.

It may take you a whole 21 minutes to get round, but it's the most beautiful and relaxing experience I've had with GT5 so far :)

eh?

I was talking about cape ring periphery

Then why did you call the corner the corkscrew? The corkscrew is a very famous corner at Laguna Seca. Please just say Cape Ring in future so no un-needed confusion is caused.

Nurburgring 24h for sure, people around the corners, barbecue :dopey:, well and..at night it's just amazing when you reach the gp part..

Trail mountain has quite impressive graphics, especially as you go down the back straight and the trees fly past, plus you have different landscapes on offer - trees, mountains and tunnels.

Cape Ring Periphery, hands down. Lots of eye candy, especially out in the distance. Spectacular drive too. High Speed Ring, the Nordschleife and La Sarthe all get in the discussion too.

Eiger Nordwand. Any of the configurations have some really sweet looking environments.

High Speed Ring looks pretty cool to me.

I also like Grand Valley Speedway.

Of course I generally like all the tracks. Ones with more natural environments like Deep Forrest or Trial Mountain are ones that I tend to prefer over others.. those have been mentioned already though.

Because technically, "cork screw" is a more appropriate name for the loop at Cape Ring than it is for the drop at Laguna Seca.

Not everyone is a snooty track-knowledgable geek who KNOWS that "the cork screw" is the traditional name for that bit of Laguna Seca.

And honestly, I knew what he was talking about because anyone who knows that the name of that corner is "The Cork Screw" would also know that the name of the track is Laguna Seca and would have said so.

Jeez, not everyone knows the names of all the corners so there's no need to sound so stuck up. I knew he was talking about the Cape Ring because 'corkscrew' makes sense with that big round thing that goes over itself.

My current ranking, with your help:

1. La Sarthe, after rainfall at sunrise
1. The Ring, sunrise... ...with Fiat 500 :P
2. Eiger Nordwand after rainfall, when sun shines
3. London
4. SS7 wet/rainfall
5. Tokyo
6. SS5
7. High Speed Ring (especially when coming out of the tunnel while in interior = HDRr at its best)
8. Cape Ring (great layout)
9. Toscana night (atmosphere)
10.

you may add tracks or change ranking. Own ranking also very welcome.
Could it be that the green Hell and La Sarthe are the greatest tracks, overall?

Trial Mountain is one of the worst tracks to showcase the graphics, it looks kinda good while driving, but not when you just watch, because there are tons of low-res textures. The Nordschleife and Le Mans with changing time are the most stunning tracks for me, by far.

I've always thought that Grand Valley and Trial Mountain were beautiful. Additionally, if you want to show off that the Standards "aren't that bad" (which I've had to do), go with the Mazda Furai on SSR7. The Furai sparkles at night and those fireworks look absolutely amazing.

Cape Ring is great and you couldn't go wrong with Nurburgring--unless he wants to try and this is his first time playing. That track doesn't really get along with first-time GT players so well, especially if they are only used to arcade-style driving games like NFS or Burnout.

Great showcase cars could be:
*Any RM (I'm partial to the '69 Camaro)
*Zonda R
*Audi R8
*SLS AMG (it's good enough for the cover!)

Really, any premium should do the trick. If it doesn't, your friend is a lost cause. GT really exists for the enthusiasts and learning to hit the brakes before a turn can be frustrating if you're used to jumping cars off of roofs and holding turbo buttons.

Good luck!

If I wanted to show off GT5 graphics, I would go B spec, a nice primium car like a Scud or a R8, on the Nurburgring or Monaco.

For sure if you go Aspec + non premium MR-2 + Autumn Ring, your showoff will be a failure.

Cape Ring is just fun to drive.

But, being a GT fan who returned to the series after buying a GCN and X360 between 2001 and 2010, it was very nice to see old tracks that I remember from the good old days still alive and kicking (SS5, R246, Deep Forest, Trial Mtn). I miss Special Stage Route 11 from GT3...

Cape Ring is one of the Nicest Suprises in GT5 , its got just about every kind of Corner you can Imagine 👍

Nurburgring 24HR Track for the Challenge and lots of side show stuff , thats probally not a good idea to look at too much unless you like Gravel Traps

Monaco. is Still one of the best allways seems to keep you busy and the sense of Speed due to its narrowness and Armco is intimidating but Fun 👍

Le Sarthe again in 24HR Watching a Day Turn to Night and Back to Daylight really shows this Games Eye Candy off 👍

I checked La Sarthe in detail and I have to say, it seems that PD just carried over the GT4 polygon track and even some of the textures, which makes it 'a little bit not that good'. Also the trees are an absolute no go. Too much copy paste and some trees are just borring 2D sprites.
I played around with the time settings at the green hell. You can get some real impressive results.

Now, the only thing I need is a good Premium to showcase the graphics on the Ring.

The 459 has some serious damage model, but the F40 has got some mind blowing details

updated list:

1. The Ring, sunrise
2. Eiger Nordwand after rainfall, when sun shines
3. London
4. SS7 wet/rainfall
5. Tokyo
6. SS5
7. La Sarthe, after rainfall, at sunrise
8. High Speed Ring
9. Cape Ring (great layout)
10. Toscana night (atmosphere)

2 problems:

1. The Corkscrew is at Laguna Seca and you don't need to be a snooty track-knowledgable geek to know that. Let me guess, you don't know where to find the turn called Hammerhead, either? My girlfriend does and she's never played (or watched me play) GT5, and she's not even into cars/racing in general. So save your ignorance and your attitude.

2. That circular feature at Cape Ring? Guess what: it's a helix.

These, my friend, are corkscrews: http://tinyurl.com/4dehchj

A corkscrew is a tool, not a shape. It is also the nickname for one of the most famous turns in the motorsports world and furthmore, it has been singled-out and featured in almost every GT game through license tests (maybe even all versions, but I don't know for sure because I'm not a snooty track-knowledgable geek). Pardon a fan of Gran Turismo for knowing what is inside the game he enjoys to play so much that he goes online to discuss it further (wait, that's you too isn't it?)
