What's the difference between these RUF's?

I read a lot about people either loving or hating the RUF cars. I especially read about the "yellow bird". I have the 4-wheel drive '96 CTR2 and the crazy '86 BTR.

I was wondering what the difference is between the '86 BTR and the '87 CTR "yellow bird". I haven't come across one yet in the USD and was wondering if i should waste my time since i already got the 86, any thoughts?

Also which RUF do you like best?

McClarenDesign, stats are only part of it... RUFs are a powerful breed hard to tame. and need tuning to fit your taste .

The CTR is faster due to its lighter weight and higher power. The BTR is more stable due to its wider track and friendlier suspension setup. The BTR is also much nicer to tires, and can have a spoiler equipped making it even more stable (and therefore, much more useful for racing).

My personal favorite in the game is the BTR, with the original CTR in a distant last. Others absolutely love the CTR, so it all depends on what you want out of it.

Imagine the undesirable handling characteristics of an FF drivetrain (excess understeer)

Now imagine the polar opposite of that.

They are fun to drive but if i'm taking a race seriously I'm reaching for something else. Theres knife's edge, and then theres poor handling. IMO the btr and yellow bird fall into this category.

The ctr2 is much more predictable since its awd, and, the rgt is also more balanced.

or maybe i'm just not a porsche guy

This! And I like porsches... 👍

I agree with Toronado, in that the BTR is a lot of fun to drive, In fact I use that car for the Seasonal drift events. I think it is a bit challenging to drive on sport hard tires... part of the fun also.
However, as much as I try the Yellowbird confounds me. I like the car but can't tame the beast with my "fists of ham".

The CTR can be a good drift car, but otherwise it's like trying to drive a car which has ice for back wheels. It's a laugh.

The BTR is better for racing, but not by too much. You'd be better off in a 3400S.

The BTR is like a Yellowbird-lite. A bit easier, a bit less powerful and a bit slower. The Yellowbird has the same sort of challenging handling as the BTR, but when you put your foot down that thing really goes.

I think it's certainly worth getting. I have 4, and I still drive all of them regularily. If you learn how to drive the Yellowbird, not many cars pose much problems after that.

Thanks all, i'm gonna grab one as soon as i see one in the UCD. I still haven't even come close to being able to drive the BTR, but the yellow bird just sounds like stupid fun. Now, what color to paint it... 💡

The Ruf BTR is based on the Porsche 930 Turbo. It was powered by a 3.4 liter, flat-6 turbocharged engine.

The Ruf CTR "Yellowbird" is based on the Porsche 911, It was powered by a highly tuned version of Porsche's 3.2 litre flat-six cylinder engine. The car received its nickname, "Yellowbird", during testing by Road & Track magazine.

Both of these cars are tradable so anyone can just send one to you.

For me the only challenging Ruf is the Yellowbird.
BTR is smooth and stable (stock or tuned) and same goes for CTR2 (a bit more understeer but if you adapt your driving style it´s awesome), RGT and 3400S.

Yellowbird is a widow-maker. It tries to kill you all the Time. There is a Video at Youtube around the Ring in Cockpit view. If you see what the Driver is doing you´ll know what to expect from it ingame.
It´s totally nuts but that gives you a huge smile on your face (If you tune it it is even more nuts :D)

RGT is probably the best Ruf and at 500-550pp (and a bit under 500pp) very competitive at least for me. It drives so great.

Like I said on some other threads... 80-150kg of ballast @ the front + the right setup can make both CTR and BTR become a lot easier to live with. Of course, I recommend that when you got more than 1 RUF, because you gotta keep one of them stock with the original characteristics for that suicidal day when you want to die on the Nordschleife.

Adjust the ballast according to your skill + a bit more camber @ the rear and it'll make you smile.

I have 30+ RUFs, most are detuned (ballast added + power restricted) to mimick original Porsche specs (930 Turbo, 964 Turbo, GT3, etc 270, 300, 330, 360, 380hp) and they are a lot more enjoyable than original RUFs.

Important difference there. That 'double decker' you can get with a BTR looks just damn magnificent. 👍

I just wish that I could put a set of Fuch rims on my detune Ruf BTR.

If you need one send a friends request to B-Raube with yellowbird in the message. I like matte yellow on the yellowbird.

I'm seriously waiting for PD to expand the wheel selection on standards, because having the option to use the Motegi racing wheels or Torque thrust, we can do something "similar" to this...

Let's hope.

Hell, I'd like to add Panasport, Minilites, and to a much lesser extent Watanabes to a bunch of my old Brit cars and some other "stuff".

Fuchs would be cool, because I could make believe I'm driving a 2.7RS or
2.8RSR.
