It's pretty sad how a topic that's been beaten to death for years in the Gran Turismo specific forums is now showing up in the Rumble Strip.
Not trying to be mean, but the search function in the top grey toolbar is very handy for finding other threads discussing what you want to discuss. Also, there are separate forum areas for Gran Turismo and other games to keep the forums organized. For the amount of lurking you say you've done, I'd think you would know how these forums are laid out.

No need to be safe about a topic when it is clearly pertinent to a specific game. I would think one of the "GT4/5/6 Epic Whining and Crying" (or similar) threads would be perfect for your contribution.
Necroposting isn't entirely frowned upon as long as a conversation can be added to constructively. I think the "Detailing and Washing Thread" and "What is the deal with 85MPH speedometers?" are good examples of this.
