Like, for example.. me
First post here, gents (and ladies, if present) and just wanted to say hi. I'm one of those guys that bought a PS3 and a G25 about 6 months ago just for GT5P, although I had no previous experience with the GT franchise. I'm not at all disappointed in that decision.
I've been on the track with my share of GTP_ tagged drivers that are on the registry and am almost always impressed with both their abilities (well, at least at the start of the race when I can still see them
) and their track manner.
I'm in my mid-40's, have no RL racing experience and with a wife and kids, track time usually comes later on in the evening for me, but this game has me hooked. I have alot to learn, both in terms of driving and tuning so I will definitely abuse the search function here, but I can't guarantee that you won't see the occasional "
" question coming from me, 'cuz although I'm not completely car ignorant, I have nowhere near the depth that I see from the conversations on here.. I just enjoy getting behind the wheel and trying to make them get me around the track as fast as I can.
My goal is to continue to improve and become as smooth and consistent as possible and I can't think of a better way of doing that than being around the best. I approach sim racing like I would if I had to pay for and insure the car I'm in and although crossing the finish line first is nice, I'd much rather spend time actually racing with someone and working in close quarters, gaining experience in decision making and comfort in traffic because as far as I can tell, none of those winnings ever show up in my real bank account and for me, a victory gained without sportsmanship is not much of a victory.
I saw a thread on here today about slip stream defensive tactics.. I have none. The race track has cars and air with one punching holes in the other so as far as I'm concerned, if I'm making less resistance for you and you can use that to your advantage, that seems pretty fair, given that I could receive the same benefit and since you got there in the first place, you're probably at least as fast as me or make less mistakes (or the most likely scenario, both)
Anyway, as an introductory post, this is probably already too long, so I'll end by saying I'm looking forward to learning from you all and hopefully we'll be able to share some asphalt together.
Happy Racing.
