I've seen this a few times lately and it is very concerning to me.

Online races hosted by (mostly) Canadian or Brazilian gamers have the "No USA" comment in the room heading. I would NEVER tell someone they couldn't race against me just because of where they live. I feel this is no different than putting "Whites Only" or "No Blacks Allowed". This is EXTREMELY racist and/or xenophobic. I was under the impression that being a gamer was to break down these barriers and become one as close knit community. I realize a lot of gamers can be jerks, but that's not an American thing; jerks can come from all over the planet. The best we can do is report these players and hope PD and/or Sony does something about this type of behavior and hope that everyone can race together, regardless of race and national origin.

Auto-racing is a global sport and I hope we all have fun playing with folks from around the world (I know I do).

I dunno. Guess they hate us. :)

Often times its to ensure a better online environment for races. Large distances can contribute to lag.

I think Americans have a bad rep, but this isn't that type of forum. I play online in any country, I change the search to all and pick the one that is best for what I want. I see a lot of rooms that say, stuff like UK only, auz only, ECT. It seems to be it was for long distance lag. I could be wrong.

This seems like it could be true, too. Good answer.

I thought about the lag thing at first, but in my experience (some may differ as most connections can vary from time to time), racing in rooms hosted by a US host, a UK host, or a Brazilian host makes no difference in the amount of lag. I've had no lag in rooms with a variety of nations and crazy lag in a room filled with only Americans.

The last one I saw, I entered just to ask why there was a "No USA" heading, just so I could understand the situation a little better. The answer I got was "Get out of here, you dumb American" and "NO USA!!!". So, I discovered that a lot of these types of rooms are filled with hate for American gamers.

McClarenDesign is right, most of it is due to lag because if you have people from Europe or Asia in the same room as US guys then loading times will be slower and the cars will lag causing frustration amongst everyone else, thus causing people to get kicked for driving dirty even though it's not their fault.

Long-distance lag is a legitimate reason for excluding far-away racers. But, I am certain that a lot of the USA-specific exclusion is due to so many USA-holes out there in the online racing rooms. We are bullies, and we know it, and we don't care, and it shows. This is the internet and people will behave badly if there are few (if any) consequences. Yes I am generalizing -- there are a LOT of good clean racers here in the 'states -- but remember that it only takes a few bad experiences for someone to get a sour taste in their mouth... the good experiences are mostly forgotten while the bad experiences tend to linger. It's human nature. Myself, I also race online in any country and I am especially careful when racing in a foreigner's lobby/room. Let's just try to have fun and not let a few bad apples ruin the bunch, that's what I always say... I love GT5! :)

Ha! You haven't been in EU...
Every tenth room is with "X crap country only" names.

This is nothing new. There are plenty of xenophobic rooms available online. Just ignore em.

The truth is they are afraid to race us here in the states. They know we will dominate them and they just get tired of seeing our tail lights.

Really whether they had a bad usa experience or not it is only a poor reflection on the people who are hosting such rooms. You can't please everyone in this world and like it or not there will always be those who despise us no matter how clean or dirty we race.

Ignore them. There is no legitimate reason to host such rooms and you are better off finding someone more fun to race against. So really they are doing us a favor by letting us know they have issues up front and we can move on with our lives :)

Could also be they want their own language too. I have seen lobbies that have said USA only too. I wouldn't take it personally really.

I create rooms all the time with "All Welcome" published and always get racers from all over the world participating. I believe the majority of the Gt5 online racers come ready to compete and only a small % are the crazy's (really any part of the world) and then we boot them.

Don't waste your time or energy, there a tons of public lounges that just want to race regardless or country or color!

Gah I remember - back in the day - when the only caveat was the "No Aliens" request.
Last thing anyone needs is an acid for blood hotlapper on the track.

I believe lag is the biggest contributor to this request. That and language barriers. With all the problems in the world today, I see no need to be offended really. There will always be those that do not like groups of others for no apparent reason. The best thing to do is to live your life and not get caught up in such petty issues and be glad that world relations are as good as they are.

There are three reasons I can see for this type of room restriction:

1. Lag. Yes lag can happen with anyone, but in my experience, the people most likely to lag when I'm in a North American room, are non-North Americans.

2. People like to race or converse with people similar to them. You see rooms with Quebecers all the time saying "Quebec" only", presumably because they want to converse and type in French. To each his own.

3. Some people don't like Americans or people from particular countries based on their own experiences with that particular nationality, in real life and/or on GT5. Again, to each his own. I've been booted from Nascar rooms because I was Canadian many times. I see "USA Only" rooms all the time too. So what? Who cares?

I'm canadian, and I'll never do such thing. Like @stormbringer said, forget them. :) I like racing with everyone all over the world. 👍

Some countries cause mass lag. USA is one of them. Nothing you need to be 'concerned' about.

Yup, being American makes you an inherently better driver than any Canadian or any Brazilian.

Those types of comments only contribute to the racism/xenophobia the OP is talking about.

They're probably doing it to exclude this guy:

IMO, I think it's because most Americans are jerks. Although I haven't been subjected to playing with British/German/Russian/etc. players often, Americans seem to really stick out as the "King of Jerks." There's plenty of nice or "neutral" Americans, but most just seem to be on the jerky () side.

For example: Once in a rare while when cruising the TGTT, I'll see some people hate on Canadians/British folks for ether no reason or because said person hit them.

Heck, I'd even have to agree with them: most Americans just seem to be 🤬 holes (but there's the very few who are nice an respectable, like those here on GTP :P).

Ive noticed more and more of this now. Lots of "latinos only" but then again i have been seeing a "no blacks" and "no dirty canadians" so i think it goes both ways but some might be mocking the others. I think its best to make a joke out of it, im going to start doing "no sith allowed, rebel alliance only".

At the very least, this is believed to be so.
I don't know if it's always the case, as I've not had issues racing with people overseas, whereas, I have had problems with people in my own state at times!!
But the idea that it may contribute to lag is more than likely the reason for people wanting to race w/ people from their own country, or own continent.

Also if they're using mics, and speaking a particular language.
Or just txt chatting in a particular language.

I don't think in all cases it's some kind of xenophobia.

Though, Americans are not the most popular people on the planet... so I wouldn't rule that out either. And I don't take personal offense by it either.

There are plenty of Americans, some on this web site, that advertise their clubs & leagues as American only. And quite frankly, even if they say it's due to lag issues, I do think a lot of the people who join those leagues, join them simply because they don't want to deal with foreigners. And I'm certainly not going to try to convince them otherwise.

Not my idea of a good time. I happen to really enjoy racing with my European gt5 pals. And I'm more than welcoming in my races, to anyone in any part of the world that can make our schedules, and race fair & clean. :)

"no sith allowed, rebel alliance only".

Because we have the whineyest 12 year olds on all the planet. I doubt any countries kids complain as much as ours

But if you ask me, the spaniards are the worst (from spain)

^^^ Definitely the dirtiest drivers on the game.

👍

Most annoying kids on mics are from USA from my experiences on GT5. Also spain are pretty terrible driver. They should learn from Fernando more.

Totally agree; be it Gran Turismo 5, or any other game out there you'll always find annoying American kids either talking rubbish or trolling your game session...

I kick them when they try to Join my "UK Drifters..." online room :).

So TRUE!

Nearly every one I have raced with have been very dirty!

I'm italian and i would be not be offended (assuming it's not a lag problem) if a room would say "no italian allowed", because we are jerks. It's a matter of fact (not all of us, but the most..). In the same way i'm not surprised if there are "no USA" in lobbies, because many of them are arrogant, morons, childish, (bad drivers..) etc.. but there are good PEOPLE in every country, no matter where they come from.

You gave me a smile:) But I have never met someone from Italy that I thought was a rude person. Just friendly.

It is a little sad to read this thread. I have been kicked out from a rooms without reason and been called names because I come from Europe. It is sad but I like to race with nice people and I have never been kicked by a nice person:) I love to race and chat with people from all over the world and have not seen any signs that people from some countries are ruder or nicer. It allways comes down to the personality. Unfortunatly it is easy to hide in a forum or in a lobby behind a fictive name. Thats why there allways are those who says or do nasty things. I wish I got the opportunity to meet them in real life and see for my self who it is hiding behind a nickname who makes them bigger and harder.

Take care!!!

Just ignore the room and carry on, it doesnt seem to matter what you name a room sometimes. I named one 'dont join' and had a few good races. Another said 'no turnips' and people just joined :)
All countries have idiots and decent people, culture clashes are common, for example some Americans dont seem to have manners but maybe us brits are too polite :D
I have seen my own friends go into a racist frenzy when a Frenchman joins the room or a Spaniard has the cheek to converse in spanish  Some of them even start talking about WW2 when a german comes to race (they are not on my friends list anymore).
We are all different and sometimes the impunity of the internet allows us to do and say things that may well get us knocked out in real life, we need to try and respect everyone until they give us a reason not to.

Well, I haven't played a lot online (because GT5 online sucks & that's one of the many reasons), anyways here's my experience from some races I've done. :sly:

You'll get the best & mature races when you join lobbies with mics disabled, no aids (only ABS), heavy damage & tire wear on. Simply because the trolling noobs can't handle it, spin arround like ballerinas, after one lap their tires are down or their car is damaged & then they disconnect. :D

I got only one time kicked by an Aussie. The lobby was full of Aussies and they where talking a lot, I guess they were buddies. First race was nearly a clean one, got only slightly bumped. They weren't very experienced, I won. :)

Then the lobby host got a bit upset, he changed the rules to no tuning allowed & changed the track (I think to one he thought he's very good on). Race started, now they got a bit agressive & tried to bump me out, without sucess (mic spamming started). In the second round I got the lead, now the lobby host was pretty upset, backed out & kicked me. :ouch:

Had a good laugh. Sent him a nice PSN message afterwards to let him know what a noobish & nut'less moron he actually is. No reply.
