Its so off-putting. I recently started a thread about wheel customization and 80% of the responses are snide, douchey comments. 2000 comments about the thread being pointless. Even though I noted several times that my gripes were very minor. Apparently because I enjoy visual customization, i'm not a "true" GT fan. WTF is that all about. Who decides the criteria for ranking video game fandom? Do I have to fill out an application to be accepted into the GT5 hierarchy? And I know i'll get a few comments from people who think they're hillarious and ironic i.e: this thread is pointless, find a new forum etc. This is the best GT forum I have found. People are worried more about proper grammar then people being made fun of, and turned-off from the forum because of their playing style, english skills, game skills etc. I mean its a video GAME, who cares how people play it. What gives people the impression that they are better than others based on a video game? A forum is meant to welcome all fans of whatever the forum is about, not alienate them. Why can't people accept differences. The moderators should be keeping a closer eye on this.

It's the internet. Given the opportunity to be rude without consequence many people will take advantage. Being a game forum I expect many members are younger, which may add to that. Mostly though, it's the internet.

edit: Your last thread about wheels probably got bashed on because there are daily threads about minor complaints and people have gotten tired of it. Sort of the "straw that broke the camel's back" type situation, except the camel's back broke back in December. I don't think you deserved the bashing, but hopefully that helps you understand the circumstances.

There you go again, another pointless thread. 👎

I don't agree. I agree with the OP. I'm all for open intelligent debate, but that is becoming a rare thing. I have only been a member since December, but have been following the site since the days of GT2. With that being said, I haven't seen this much uncalled for bashing, (such as your post), in quite awhile. I do agree that allot of members refuse to use the search button in the GT5 sub-forums, cluttering up an already overly active forum. But to sit and berate any member over any view is against the AUP that we all have agreed to the moment the we hit, *I have read the terms* button. In closing, what's the point of bashing somebody posting, what you consider a pointless post, with a pointless post yourself? I would love to see people debate and be more considerate to other members.

While GT5 has such tragic game killing fun killing flaws, which are still receiving scant attention from PD, it is hard to take seriously yet another call for mere eye candy.

And yes, it is a video game. Of a REAL sport. So yes, people (that like and follow the sport) DO care about how other people play the game, especially when they come online and use those same techniques that disrespect the sport. It's like a soccer game that has a glitch that allows you to pick up the ball and RUN it into the net. You want to use that glitch on your own time, have at it. But come online and pick up the ball, many are going to cry 'Foul!'...

Oddly enough, I get quite a bit of flack because I don't seem to 'get' that GT5 is a 'driving, car collecting, car washing, race managing, museum card collecting, photography game' and apparently, except for online, NOT a 'racing game'..!

But I have gotten used to it. You soon will.:sly:

That's kids for you. You'll figure out soon enough how easy it is to differentiate the Jackasses from the Gems. Just understand there's alot of latchkey losers out there with something to prove to the world.

i noticed a while back in the photomode thread someone posted up a photo of one of their cars which they had changed the wheels and he got lots of flames saying that he had commited a heinous crime by putting those wheels on that car ( i cant remember which car nor which wheels).....

Being a game forum I expect many members are younger....

Why's that? The average age of gamers goes up every year but the last figure I remember was like 35 or 36, and it's probably higher now. That's not the upper end or the average of the older games but the average of all gamers in general from birth to death. It's not the median age, but the average age. So, for every teenager playing video games there's a gamer in their fifties.

Because every day there are dozens of threads made about "I think PD should add this car/option/track/mode" and people really have gotten sick of them. It's not you're fault.

Very true. I think there was a poll a while back showing the ages of people on the site, or maybe I'm just imagining it. :dunce:

I guess what I meant is many of the rude remarks I see on the forum consistently come from the same people, and just seem like immature things to say. Or the way their posts are written, they seem like younger people.

Yeah I agree actually, that's why I never really post here. You get your backside bitten off straight away :(.

Couldn't have put it better myself 👍

Just dont get involved. You can tell 49% of the threads on here have been written by kids just by the titles. Another 49% is people moaning about the game. Or people moaning about the people moaning.
That leaves 2% for the photomode forums & tuning section.

So to sum up 2% is cool & 98% is just pointless ****e imo written by kids or elitist self righteous idiots & is not worth reading at all.

Flame away because i shant even be looking at the responses to what i've just said 👍

I would imagine one of the main reasons why this forum has such high guest to member ratio is that most of the guests that come here are put off joining by the negativity that seems to infiltrate its way into most of the threads.

Given that most people on this board are here because they love the GT series (if not the fifth installment) I often wonder why they spend their time posting irrelevant or rude comments.

What gets me is, the mod's are all to quick to jump on folk about petty things like your spelling is bad... there is a ' in it's.... then get all high n mighty and start giving warnings like.. THIS IS THE START OF YOU BEING REMOVED FROM THIS FORUM IF IT CONTINUES........ like WTH !!!

Surely a first warning could be.. please try to improve your spelling for the sake of others... Many thanks.

A good dash of super skunk would do well here and chill some mofo's out.

Spelling is in no way anywhere near as bad as some of the comment's people make on here and get away with.

I have been coming on this site for years... I dont post too much becuase its simply not worth it.

your either ...

A. WRONG FOR ANYTHING YOU SAY
B. WRONG FOR EVEN THINKING IT
c. WRONG FOR EVEN BEING HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE
D. WRONG FOR EVEN BREATHING.

Failing any of the above you get abuse hurled at you and then the name calling starts...

so there, my two pence is... read and leave it there the mentality of this place is not worth it in the end.

I'll more than likely get an infraction for being disrespectfull to the mods or some spelling issue..... lol.

But the point is...

Mods could do with brushing up on the whats worthy of an infraction and what's to be honest... just not, then we may get rid of some of the unwanted posters and have a decent forum with good discussions.

Until then i'll bugger off for another few years.... lol... see ya.

Hmmm, 14 started threads and 18 total posts, no wonder people are so quick to get on his case. Maybe if the OP actually contributed something instead of just starting a thread and walking away, people might actually have faith in what he posts.

I am fully aware that this post is utterly useless and contributes nothing in this case, but I at least contribute to other threads and respond in my own created threads.

Maybe he would have more if he wasn't scared off by the dribble that would ensue.

EDIT: Which I think is his exact point!

Some people don't seem to realise that many people in the world just want to have fun when they have time to play on their ps3, there are too many people on here that are uptight pr*cks that just need to chill out and back off, letting people enjoy life

Well said & very true.👍

I like goldfish with my grape juice, whilst watching 'Murder she wrote'

14 threads, 18 posts. Are you effing serious???

OP...its really just the way this forum is...most of them really are in denial about how much of a buggy piece of **** gt5 is.

I wouldn't say "elite" but I have to say I can see a higher percentage of more intelligent and knowledgeable people here than many other forums.

Now, if you can't keep up with the them then I don't think it's their fault. I also think most people can smell pointless thread from over a mile away.

That made me puke a little bit..

This thread may be pointless but no one can deny there is a "smug" attitude in gtplanet forums.

It used to not be so bad but then again GT4 was a better game!

I understand what the OP means with elitists comments and so on, but that's why it makes this forum interesting, the conflits of ideas, the laughs that some posts and whole threads cause on me:), the diference that exist between us, GT fans.
I love GTP, but there are too much whine/pointeless thread/posts here.

:gtplanet:

Yea, a lot of people up here can be pricks. Go figure. All I can say, is choose your wording wisely and carefully.

What did you say? And who are you calling pricks? Choose your word wisely and carefully, pal.

Just kidding.

Oddly enough, we do welcome criticisms of staff, provided there's some sort of weight to them. Our policies on spelling will never change because well... go look at the official Sony forums and you'll see why.

Mods could do with brushing up on the whats worthy of an infraction and what's to be honest... just not, then we may get rid of some of the unwanted posters and have a decent forum with good discussions.

That first bit is ironic, because as a regular member, you aren't in the position to determine what's worthy of "brushing up"... we are. Though an interesting thing about the whole spelling issue; spelling is the one thing we tend to post in-thread warnings or reminders about, far more than some of the more extreme AUP violations (which makes sense). So a lot of people see the spelling-related talk out in plain view, while they don't see us cleaning up a troll spill on aisle three. So that might affect things a bit :)

As for the topic at hand - the threads started/total posts ratio is a hint; there's a lot of duplicate threads around, where people could've very easily contributed to an already existing thread, and some members tempers are severly shortened from that. Some, by far too much, to the point they go in as many threads as they can just to post the same negative comments. Couple that with the "straw that broke the camel's back" explanation above and you've got it figured.

Plus, GT has a very strange fan community; any suggestion about how to improve the game is met with sturdy opposition who think it's essentially "perfect" as is (for lack of better), and to deviate from the current package is somehow impure. It's a lot easier to question someone's "true fan"-ness than to rationally explore why a suggestion is good or bad.

@SpeedKills: I give you the words of the late, great 16th President of the United States of America:

"[It's] better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

For you that aren't American (or don't know history), this quote is from Abraham Lincoln.

U r right i got a reported for poor gramer even though u could clearly read what i was saying

From the AUP:

•You will not use “textspeak” (“r”, “u”, “plz”, etc.) in your messages. Decent grammar is expected at all times, including proper usage of capital letters.

Come on, man.
