Had the 87 Aero Coupe, but not the 85-87 442 Cutlass - though I added it. Thanks for the suggestion!!! Why didn't you mention the 83-84 Cutlass Hurst?
Well...I forgot about it. It was the one with the rather strange "Lightning Rods" shifter, if I recall correctly. Oh yeah, and special paint--black on silver or silver on black.

And the GS300? I'm not sure where you live, but unless it's under a rock, then I wouldn't call that rare. :p
Well, it's quite a nice rock....:p I was talking first-gen GS300s, not the much more common 2nd gens. I have only seen one, ever.

Was it a better car why there was a dramatic sales increase? Or did Audi figure out that when you're marketing a car, the bigger the numbers the better (usually).

It was very nearly the same exact vehicle - 227-horsepower 2.3-liter five-cylinder turbo; Quattro all-wheel drive, sedan and wagon bodystyles. There were slight stylistic differences (mainly wheels, though the S6 was vaguely updated elsewhere). Plus, the S4 was the performance version of the Audi 100, which was sold from 1989 to 1994; the S6 was the performance version of the A6's first generation (95-97) - the streamlined model names and better brand recognition didn't hurt.

Mainly I think the boost of sales was due to Audi simply producing more. By 1995 the performance figures on the A6 were completely embarassing - 0-60 was achieved in around twelve seconds with the standard 172-horsepower 2.8-liter Volkswagen V6; 0-60 in 12 doesn't quite make for a BMW-beater. S6 trimmed it to 6.6 and added standard AWD, giving BMW a run (until the following year when the 5-series was redesigned and the S6 was shelved).

I see them constantly - every couple days. In fact there's one down the block (they also own a Kia Optima and a Ford Windstar). The second-generation models seem to be actually slightly rarer here, though no six-cylinder GS models could even come close to the classification of 'rare'. The only GS on my list is the 01-present GS430.

I've actually driven a Hurst/Olds with 'Lightning Rod' setup. It works well enough, if oddly enough. I'm not sure what the advantage was supposed to be over a regular old slap shifter setup.

who did not know about the S4? i thought they were twin turbo anyways? i don't really follow audi except my 924......but anyways someone brought up lamborghini, who would want to have a tractor <;- P what would be the point of having a old morgan anyways? they all look the same so the "normies" would be none the wiser.

He was talking about the 1992-1994 generation Audi S4, and that did not have twin-turbos.

See! No-one knows about the damn thing!

That's the 92-94 Audi S4. You've never heard of it. You may think you've seen one before, but actually, you've seen this:

The current S4 - the one with the 4.2-liter V8 - is actually the third generation of the product.

Another one of my dream cars. :) Albeit in convertible form.

Meh - the best S4s are the 92-94 and the 01 Avant. Otherwise, meh. That convertible is too woman-oriented for me.

Fair enough, but I prefer 2-doors over 4. :)

I liked this Audi convertible:

Never really did have enough power though (not a V8, or a turbo, sorry :D) - and I seemed to be the only one who liked it. Still - it was rare!

It's cool. If someone could figure out a way to put the S4 (gen I) under the hood of that car... then it would make my list! :sly:

I bet it's possible, considering that model's engine was the same 2.8-liter V6 used in the Audi 100, the base for the S4.

I knew of those cars. My old neighbor back in the day used to have the S6. Back then, I couldn't care less. But, I remember the car. Didn't realize they were that rare. Hmmph.

By the way, M5P, you finally got a Ty???? What color??? Sweet piece.

The S6 of that style - which was the same vehicle as the S4 but with minor styling variations (S4 was 92-94, S6 was 95) - is actually not particularly rare; I see one just about every week and a wagon or two every month. As I mentioned, the 95 S6 doubled the sales of 92-94 S4s (they sold double the amount of S6s in 1995 than S4s in 1992, 1993, and 1994 put together - it's true).

My Typhoon is black, and I'll come up with some pictures when this snow melts, which is actually going to be a couple months. Pictures just look tacky with all this snow on the ground and I won't wash it until the snow's done anyway. Plus I need to either get the bumper reset or get a whole new bumper, I think some previous Cheesehead owner got a pole some time ago. Guess I have to do that this week.

Pagani Zonda. I love them...especially the rear. I have two already in GT4 & plan on buying the third one tonight.

See a pattern? :dopey:

You know why they called it the 9-5?

They had 900 (a three-digit number) then 9000 (a four-digit number). Rather than move up to 90,000, they just called it 9-5.

That isn't true but it seems plausible.

How do you know the difference between truth and fact? :sly:
(inside joke, for more info read last few pages of the "questioning religion" in the opinions forum)

That does seem plausible, though, but then why call the 900 the 9-3? Why not 1 digit higher and call it the 9-4?

3-door, 5-door? Even though I'm pretty sure the new models aren't hatchbacks anymore...

Possibly, but both the 9-3 and 9-5 are 4-door sedans.

Either way, I'm more interested the Saab 9000. :sly:

They're available by the hundreds. We looked at half a dozen 2001-2003 models, all with less than 30,000 miles on them, and all priced between $19,000 and $27,000.
