In chronological order :sly:... as best I can remember...

F1 Race - GameBoy - 2D driving... loved the boost.
Test Drive 3 - PC - Had chickens which you could run over and an x-wing at the airport.
Need For Speed SE - PC - Still has the best some of the best point to point courses plus had statue of liberty buried in the sand at the end of one race.
Need For Speed 3 - PC - Had nice interiors and police for the first time!
Midtown Madness - PC - Bought it to get real Freeroam.
Ridge Racer V - PS2 - First PS2 game I bought with the console.
GT3 - PS2 - GT goes next gen (my first taste of the series).
F1 2001 - PS2 - EA's last outing in F1.... dear god why did I buy this!
GT Concept - PS2 - The original Tokyo motorshow one.
WRC 2 Extreme - PS2 - Bad physics but pretty.
Toca Race Driver - PS2 - Best AI, lots of cars and tracks.
NFSHP2 - PS2 - Best of the series to date.
NFSU - PS2 - Disappointment.
WRC 3 - PS2 - Better Physics.
GT4P - PS2 - Looked slightly better than GT4.
GT4 - PS2 - Great game, what can a say!

Toca Touring Cars - PS1 - first console, first real racing game, bloody brilliant!
Gran turismo 1 - PS1 - I remember first watching the trailers, couldnt wait and it didnt dissappoint.
F1 97 - PS1 - Bought after realising a love for F1 aged 8.
Test Drive 4 - PS1 - Was good fun and made a change from GT.
Colin Mcrae Rally - PS1 - My first taste of rallying.
Toca 2 - PS1 - Improvment on an already brilliant game.
Gran Turismo 2 - PS1 - The sheer amount of cars and the restricted races made for an exciting brilliant game.
Toca world touring cars - PS1 - Different from the others with no BTCC but somehow seemed better because of it.
Colin Mcrae Rally 2 - PS1 - I loved it, my dad loved it, it was brilliant.
Metropolis Street Racer - Dreamcast - First non PS racing game, and my what a game!
F1 World Grand Prix - N64 - Fantastic F1 game!
Project Gotham Racing - xbox - Bought before a ps2, PGR was mindblowingly good looking after the jump from the ps1.
Colin Mcrae Rally 3 - xbox - Couldnt not get it, didnt disappoint.
Gran Turismo 3 - PS2 - But the lure of GT was too strong.
WRC4 - Miles better than Colin Mcrae games up to this point, official and brilliant.
Gran Turismo 4 - PS2 - My milestone for racing games, bloody perfect.
Enthusia - PS2 - Another good racing game, not the best but was played a lot.
Forza - xbox - Not as good as Gt, but still fun nonetheless.
PGR2 - xbox - My milestone for xbox racers.
F1 05 - PS2 - Put my faith back in F1 games.
F1 06 - PS2 - The best F1 game made for console.
GP4 - PC - Late to the party for me, but the best F1 game ever.

My first racing game was this:

url

Mostly I played Need for Speed and Mario Kart games before Gran Turismo. And I only bought GT4 because I read that used cars were coming back--and photomode was a new feature. However, as soon as I got an XBOX and Forza I forgot all about Gran Turismo still to this day. GT5 better fix the physics or I'll just not buy it--well actually I'll never spend more than $250 on a PS3 so it will be at least 2 years before I even get a PS3 if I ever do. I'm not pleased with the PS3--its a waste of money.

With a little touching up (bold), it's funny how well this post matches my thoughts.

I started with a racing game from Atari. Have no clue what it was called. Then came NFSHS hooked with that for a couple of months. Started playing GT1(never got any of my liscenes so I quit. But im way better now). NFSU then I played Toca 2 hated it. Got NFSU2. Then got GT3 absolutly hooked on that for a year or so. Then came around to F1 Career Challenge. Still trying to beat NFSMW. Then my birthday came around and my parents got me a copy of GT4 and a nice DFP. But now im starting to lay off on GT4 and go to TOCA 3 which I absolutly love and a much better improvement from Toca 2. Im looking forward to the release of GT5.

Got a Demo disc which had GT1 on it, played for a while and liked it.

Racing games i played before GT4:

PSX:

GT1, GT2, Rally Cross 2, Driver and several others

PS2:

GT3, NFS: Hot Pursuit 2, R:Racing Evolution, Auto Modellista, and several others

There were al lot more games i had that involved racing at some point or the other, but I realized it didn't influence me into GT4 because it doesn't as in-depth of racing as the GT series. I didn't play GT1 too much as GT2 was what really got me into Gran Turismo.

Other games that involved racing that is nowhere near GT are:

Crash Team Racing (PSX)
Beetle Adventure Racing (N64)
Crash Bandicoot: Warped (PSX)
Crazy Taxi (PS2)
Excite Bike (NES)
Burnout 3: Takedown (PS2)
NFS: Underground (PS2)
World's Scariest Police Chases (PSX) <- How i developed Battle racing so well.

Games i played AFTER GT4:

Toca 2
LFS
D1GP Grand Prix <-pathetic Game IMO
Burnout Dominator
Burnout Revenge
Pac Man : World Rally
Micro Machines V4
Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast

I can't really remember what racing game I first played. Most probably the 1st i've ever played was Daytona in the arcades, and to this very day, is still one of the best racing games in the arcade. 👍 As for consoles, i'll try to list it up:

It all started for me in 2001 when I first got a gaming consle. My Mum and Dad brought me a PS1, and they probably regret doning that now, since I use my PS2 so much, I hardly do anything else. My first game was Wacky Races for PS1. My second was Formula One 1997, and my third was Gran Turismo 1. My skill never really started improving until GT1. I soon became really good, but now I am one-million times better. I am thinking about posting a video of my driving, not sure if anyone wants me to though, and if I do and no one wants to watch it, it will be a waste of my time!

I forgot to mention that unlike most people, I keep my games even when I have finished them. So I still have my first ever game, Wacky Races. However, I have got rid of the crap ones!

Well, here I go down memory lane..

Old thread I know but saw it at the top and here goes:

First racing game I remember playing a lot was Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit on the 360. Played it a lot and won quite a few races :sly:

I have not played a GT game before getting GT5 in February and since then I'm hooked on all things racing. I got Nascar The Game 2011 :yuck: , F1 2010 👍 👍 👍 and will be getting F1 2011 soon :sly: . I want to try out Forza on the 360 but since getting a dfgt I'm hesitating to ever play a racing game without a wheel again 💡

General gaming is impossible but I can sort of track the racing games I spent significant time with from current to backwards in this rough order of when I first picked up the game:

NFS Hot Pursuit
GTR2
Rfactor
GT4
Race 07 (and all of the series including GTR Evo)
MotoGp 08
F1CE
MotoGP 07 (PS2)
MotoGP 4
F1 06
F1 05
FIA WCR
Vrally
Driver
Some PS F1 game I don't know the name of
A whole bunch of Amiga racing (Lotus Espirit 1-3, Jaguar XJ220, Stuntcar racer, Supercars II and others)

I don't think I played racing on C64 really. So something like that.

The firs racing game I ever played (when I was about 3) was GT2. My dad had a PS1 and when my mum was working in the evenings we would do split screen races in loads of different cars. Then, I played Driver (the original) because I LOVED car chases (doesn't every car loving 4-year old) and the Italian Job game. I then played GT1 at a friends house, which I liked.

Christmas 2004 I got a PS2, and NFS Underground 2. Played it to death, but then, March 2005 came GT4. Initially I played it and hated it, because I bought a crappy car. After wiping my save clean and starting again later that year, I made a more educated choice, and chose a car that could actually win races. Eventually I ended up with a fire breathing Camaro race car...
After that came countless NFS's, TDU1 on PS2, and then PC.

Until 2008. When I got a shiny new PS3. My first racing game on it was burnout paradise. Arcadey, but EXTREMELY fun. Bought almost all the DLC, and it overshadowed almost all the NFS's I've ever played. Then came GT5 Prolouge, then more NFS, and finally GT5. Since then I've bought DiRT 3, S2:U and TDU2. And I've preordered DRIVER: SF.

I don't think I could recall all the racing games I've ever played. I've obviously wasted countless hours of my life with the GT series, most NFS games, alot of the F1 games and probably more notably on rFactor.

I do remember the very first racing game I ever played and owned on pc; Indianapolis 500: The Simulation.

indy500.gif

The next one after that was Nascar Racing. I'm not even a Nascar fan at all but I really loved this game. So many adjustments could be made to the car and you could even paint your own livery. Brings back great memories.

Edit: Damn I'm really showing my age now

Damned nice thread.

Ok here goes:

My first to play and to own was "Lamborghini", on the SNES, for a 2D game, pretty cool.

During that time I tried the new "box" at a friends house called PlayStation and believe me or not, it was the first time I saw 3D real time graphics:dopey:.
(It was already early 1999 at that time, anyways...)
He showed me two racing games, one was HP3 and the other one GT. I was 9 I believe, so I really coudn't do anything with GT, it was so realistic, that it was kinda unplayable to me. The guy I always visited with the PS was 13 back then, much more mature than me and he LOVED GT, I know he turned it on, showed me all the menus and options and I didn't really understood anything and then he left me with the game alone in the room, I was pretty shy as a kid back then so I thought "Hm, why not, give it a try", but the car he gave me had HUUUGE turbo lag, so I thought I kinda broke the car or something, left the controller on the sofa and put on this face:

 Then he came in and asked if I didn't like the game and I lied and said yes, although I feared I broke his car, so:

But NFS3 on the other hand made me addicted, I LOVED watching him playing this game, the HP mode. I loved the tracks with all the hilly mountain like scenery and of course the exotic cars, I was amazed, but he was pissed as he didn't really like the game lol.

Then a "real" friend of mine bought also a PS and a "demo1 disc" came with it, on it a demo of GT1. Somehow I learned to really love this game and we only played this demo for hours every day although we already had real games.👍
Besides, in my opinion, this game has the best intro to ANY videogame EVER:
Isn't it amazing even today?

Half a year later or so I bought my own PS with the game I was most addicted to till this day, I played it several hours each day, for pretty much a whole year: NFS4, High Stakes. I adored everything about this game, graphics-physics-scenery-tracks-cars-music and the AWESOME sound this game had at the time. You could for example hear all kinds of animals like cats, dogs, panthers, birds, wolfes, etc, etc., all fitting the track you were driving on, REALLY added to the atmosphere.
Here an example of the amazing music they used back then, much better than today's emo rock and pop.

So from there I started bying a lot of demo discs and I will briefly name the racing games I liked but never bought:

1.ColinMcRea Rally, man, what an amazing game-rented it though.
2.Toca 1, incredible for it's time.
3.Toca 2, sublime in every way.
There were also others, but I do not really remeber them, they were not as good.

So the next racing games I bought for the PS1 were:

1.Driver 2: Stressed the old hardware way too much, great nonetheless. It even had "round" corners in an open world racing game on the PS1, that was something really.

2.Colin2: More or less a perfect rally experience, really good game. (Played through it again a year ago or so for nostalgia's sake lol)

3.Toca World Touring Cars (Toca3): Man this game had EVERYTHING. 12 cars grid, extencive damage, roll-overs, good physics and graphics and sound, GREAT A.I., all of that on a machine with 4MB main memory:crazy:, spent a lot of time on that game.

4.Ridge Racer Type 4: Ha, simply perfect graphics for PS1 standards. Much better than GT indeed, and that at double the framerate, I don't know how Namco pulled this of back then, some serious wizardy. Loved the music in this game so much! And the intro first with that chick you know?! Hey I was 11 or so...:dopey:
Watched the intro EVERY time when fired up the game and tought "oh yeah baby" when the chick bit her lip in that one scene-at 1:42 it is...:lol::lol::embarrassed:

5.And finally GT2: REALLY hooked to this game, so much cars, so much to do! Just an awesome game that was.

And then came the PlaySation 2 with significantly improved hardware and I bought like every gaming magazine, which had an article on GT3.
I bought the bundle, and my first racing wheel with it, the Driving Force EX or something like that.
I was SHOCKED how amazing this game looked on my TV and was simply blowen away by the driving feel with the wheel, was so addicted to this game.
This video shows fairly well how big the graphical leap was:

Other PS2 racing games I bought:

1.WRC2: Great graphics but ****** physics. Still, great atmosphere created in the game with the official licence.
2.Supercar Street Challenge: Totally useless game, but really cool music during the races.
3.Burnout 2:Great arcade fun.
4.NFS HP2: Really really good game with great graphics and sountrack, well and gameplay of course.
5.NFS Underground. Stunning graphics, good arcade fun.
6.Enthusia:Unbelievable physics and good graphics but I didn't like the career mode of this game.
7.Tourist Trophy. Well, GT with bikes=amazing.
8.GT4: Loved it, but not as much as GT3.

Now to the recent gen, the PS3:

1.F1 Championship Edition: Great gameplay (little arcady), great wheel feel, good A.I., imo-amazing gameplay graphics-really clean and it looks amazing during the practice sessions in the morning, here a vid:

And also one I made, with some slick overtaking:

2.GT5, of course: Well, still play it, but imo, the worst GT ever, besides GTPSP.

That's it I guess.👍

(Oh and yeah I love these meme faces pics )
