What's your target?

Hi guys, i just thought i would ask everyone who's going to take part in this event, what is your target for the competition?

I personally am going to set myself the target of reaching round two as i believe this is the furthest i would get to the best of my ability, and i reckon i am unlikely to reach round three.

So, what is your target?

To win the entire thing or at least make the academy, it might sound corny or silly, but i aim high so hopefully i can get there. If I dont then fairplay to whoever does but I've not really tried that hard on the past 2 (Due to uni work) and always been in the top lot of the pad players, now I'm on a wheel I'll give it a good bash!

But I wish everyone luck! :)!

I can't officially take part as an Academy participant or contestant this year, but certainly last year my goal was to reach the UK National Finals, meet all the guys I had raced with for a couple of years in person and I got to do that. All the blood, sweat and tears caused by weeks of endless time-trialling at Indianapolis Road Course were 100% justified simply for the opportunity to hang out with other GTPlanet members at the finals and get that passenger ride with Alex Buncombe around Brand's Hatch

On a different note, can I please request guys that you post using capital letters where appropriate (e.g. using "I" instead of "i" when referring to yourself) as outlined in the AUP which you will have agreed to when registering for the forums 👍

How come you can't compete this year Maz? Is it voluntary or have Sony asked that media, journalists, etc. not to participate?

I would just love to go at least to silverstone, i'm only 18 and i actually can drive nice so i'm pointing to reach silverstone, i hope some luck in that process but if i could i would be amased

Hi mate, it's not as much to do with being media as the fact that I am working for the organisers in some capacity, so at various stages I will be privvy to inside information earlier than the competitors so it would be easy to gain an advantage. That probably doesn't apply to other media/journalists. I will still run the time trial as I'm sure I'll be expected to write about it at some stage, so it'll be good to have experience of it 👍

So you know what tracks/car combinations they are going to use already? :P

My goals are slightly different from last year. After having an easy enough time making it to the previous national final in Ireland, now I have to mix it up with the big boys in the UK and that is not going to easy at all.

For me, getting to the top 20 would be such an achievement this time around. I can't really say anymore than that. If I do make it there, I will be a lot more mentally prepared than last time and hopefully able to handle the pressure.

Best of luck to everyone taking part 👍

That's really great to hear Maz. I'm sure your knowledge and understanding will go a long way. Glad to hear things worked out with Jardine. 👍

It's a shame to see you wont be competing though. :(

Shame your not entering Maz.... As for me hoping for top 20 again for sure, will be puting in even more effort this time to do the best i can because last time there was under 0.7 from 2nd to 25th if i remember correct (25th ended making it in because of cancellations).

I found last year that in order to finish up in the Top 20 at the end, I needed to run the time trial pretty much every single day of the 6 or so weeks it was active, and basically doing 2 jobs now that's never going to happen. I've improved a lot since last year but it still requires the same level of dedication, and if I was competing I'd want to be top 10 this time.

In all honesty though, it was SUCH hard work last year, I'm kinda glad I don't have to run it seriously this year :D I'm hoping that I get to be at the national final by way of the work I'm doing for the organisers, so the result is the same

Markyboy, I've quoted the need for using capital letters twice already in this very short thread, take note please 👍

Life of being a student! :). My plan is a minimum 5 hours of each day while the competition is open. Hopefully this will get me through!

This is my first time with GT academy. So.... I'll do as much as I can.

Good luck to all.

Is there an age limit for this competition? I would like to know because i am currently 15 years old and I think I remember seeing on the old GT academy having an age limit. I assume it will be at least 17 years old because round 4 involves driving a real car. Any info?

You will need to have 18 and a driving license in order to go through round 3, altough you can still play to reach round 3, after that you can keep moving forward on gt acad.

Were did you get 3 rounds from? im pretty sure there is 1 round, then it national final then its silverstone... same as 08 and 10?

I guess I would be lying if I said I wasn't aiming for the top 20.

I did it last year, and I wasn't expecting to. Perhaps lightening can strike twice.

You mean losing your phone and going on holiday in the middle of the competition like last year?

I think I placed somewhere in the or around the Top 1000 in UK last time, might even have been in the Top 600. Is there a way to check where you placed last time? That was with a pad and I spent little time on it due to not having a driving licence and no wheel.

I aim to get into the Top 250 this year, and if I get into the Top 100 or Top 20 in UK, then that will be a huge bonus. Hopefully they add prizes like they do in USA's GT Academy, that will give me a bigger incentive to try even harder.

My target, as it has been for the last month or so, is to try and find the time to turn the PS3 on. :grumpy:

Top 20 is a must for me this year! Last year 31 with fastest DS3 time. Now G27 so we will see, hope to have improved in the meanwhile :).

Having broken my arms, legs, back and face to get into the English Top 20 last year, I can't say that I will be putting as much effort into it this time round.

However, I'm very tempted to see what the combo will be and if it suits my driving style (like last year did) then who knows...

My goal is the top 30 in the national event. Previous years I got to the top 40, but that will just not do this year! :dopey:

last time sim racing was new to me. I reached 315 or something with a dualshock 3 controller so it will be interesting to know where i come with my G27 this time and more experience. Competition could be tougher this time i reckon.

I'm going to see how I go with the pad, if I'm in with any remote chance I'll probably go out and buy a wheel which should hopefully improve my prospects. :P
