Hats the best way to play with a wheel set off a couch. I would like to play with a wheel but I don't have room or money to have a rig that dominates a room. I would like something that's small and portable and easy to play sitting in a hair or on a couch.
Thanks

Cheap, Stable, Portable.

I have some TV trays that fold up that I use. It is kind of a tight fit, but it works. I got them from Target or Walmart for a pretty good price.

you may laugh at this but i first started using a ironing board for my wheel. its height adjustable. can be brought right to the chair and is very stable. also added bonus is more or less every household has one and the wheel fits to it perfectly lol. try it and see

I know someone who has one of those, and I can vouch for it. Only real problem with it is that you are limited in how far away you can place the pedals. He was relatively tall and found that they were just a tad close to him for his liking.

It's almost like the wheels are designed for it! Sadly our new ironing board is mesh rather than solid so it no longer works.

I have a round coffee table that's a bit low and not ideal, but it's better than DS3.

Always wondered how those work. Are they weighted on the bottom, like gym equipment?

I guess so, if you count your legs. I have no idea, really, it might just be clever use of levers.
I'm at a loss as to how they guarantee rigidity, though. Must just be inherently heavy.

Jordan's review here.

I think the Wheel Stand Pro would be your best bet.
I was about to recomend a lap rest/lap stand that I use today with my DFGT. I bougth it a few years back with a purchase of a DFP at Logitech´s website. But I checked now, and it seems like they don´t sell them any more.
It´s not optimal as a dedicated playseat, but it it works ok. :)

What I like about the Xlerator stands vs the Wheel Stand Pro is that with the Xlerator you can lean all the way back in your couch or chair, instead of having to sit upright. It doesn't look like the Wheel Stand Pro can get all the back to a deep couch or chair, since the bar holding the wheel is nearly parallel to the foot of your couch/chair. I think the Xlerator is much more confortable, and cheaper, and with a wider base it will resist movement when you turn.

I use a bedside drawer thing with the actual drawer taken out so I can clamp my wheel on the bottom.

A friend of mine has that. Works like a charm. Easy to fold away too.

I have a wheelstandpro and would recommend it highly. It folds up relatively neatly with the wheel still fitted, if you remove the wheel, even smaller yet.

It is a weighty unit, the black bar/tube you can see on the bottom behind the pedals, there is also one on the front gives it great rigidity and I have never experienced it moving around. The pedals are secured by a bracket and the wheel is secured with bolts in the kit.

This thread is gonna make me a wheel user at last, as the struggle of mounting a wheel and pedals somewhere always stopped me from buying one, XL3 stand seems the perfect solution (especially as i like to lean back in the couch :))

I have used the wheelstand pro for almost a year and highly recommend it. It's very stable, and easy to hide away when not in use - keeps the wife off my back.

I used to use a wheelstandpro for 3 years and recommend it to anyone looking for a space-saving yet sturdy alternative. The thing is very solid and well built. You almost have to being to get any sway or flex to it. It is weighty enough at the base where it won't tip over and then when you are playing your feet add more weight and stability. It is also very easy to pick up and move and also fold away. The company itself is great and they are quick to respond to any inquiries.

I had no problem sitting back in my couch while using the WSP. I found it to be very comfortable and ergonomic, in fact my longest session was almost 6 straight hours. The middle bar can be leaned forwards and backwards as well as telescoping up and down.👍

Edit: a pic of mine when I was using it. I used Co-Flex to clean up all the cables.

Wheel stand pro users? How's your lean back factor i'd like to know that also.

You will not regret getting a wheel. It will take a week or so getting used to it, but after that, you will wonder why you never got one sooner.

As mentioned above, you get a lot of adjustment, as the main upright can be moved forward or back, up and down, and the steering wheel section can be tilted to suit.

If you look at the XL3/4 picture, there won't be much room for the person to sit and have outstretched arms, that will quickly lead to fatigue. And if you need to move that one further away it's relying on support from the sofa. The wheelstandpro, doesn't have this problem as it's self supporting.

I posted just above but it isn't a problem at all. The bar can be locked at any angle you want plus it can be extended or shortened. I was able to sit back in my couch and be completely comfortable. Also, the plate that holds the wheel can be tilted upward or downwards so you can find the perfect position. I've never used the Xcelerator so I can't really comment on it but it looks like the WSP is much more adjustable.

You can move the XL3/XL4 as close or as far away from you as you want. Arm fatigue isn't an issue. And, the XL3/XL4 rests on the couch/chair with a very wide base... stability is nice. The arms that rest on the couch/chair are adjustable to for any height you want. And it costs $50 less than the Wheel Stand Pro.

They're both nice... but one costs less, is advertised less and functions the same. Your Choice.

I also own a wheelstand pro for my DFGT, I've nothing but good things to say about it. Getting a wheel and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made, it takes racing games like GT5 to a whole new level.:D

The wheelstand pro is adjustable in column height, depth and wheel tilt. I have used it with camping chairs, sofas, and most recently an old, fairly low to the ground wing chair that feels sort of like a race seat. There is no way that the middle support will come in contact with any chair, even if you have short arms it will be about 3 inches from the chair - unless you are going to steer with you chin. This thing is rock solid stable regardless of the car I use. Just last night I golded the Vettel Challenge on my new profile with FFB on 8. The only thing I can imagine would be better is a full racing rig.

I also use a Wheelstand Pro for my DFGT, and it is great for the casual racing gamer. It folds away nicely and it is sturdy, easily adjustable and rather well built. I would definitely recommend the Wheelstand Pro for someone who is looking for an affordable, space saving stand to use a racing wheel on.

I use a wheel stand pro with my G27 wheel and have 0 issues. It can be adjusted in numerous places so its a perfect fit for everyone. Very well made, stable and strong. Great customer support as well.
