Wheel Vs Controller -- Tyre Wear

Playing online I use a wheel (G27) & almost everyone else I play with uses the controller. Ive noticed that I'm the only one with smoke coming from the front tyres at almost every corner & is impossible to prevent, thus resulting in very rapid front tyre wear.

This is most noticeable at Indy or Daytona in a Nascar where my front tyres are shot in less then 7 laps no matter what tyre I use, & the other guys tyres aren't even 1/4 worn, using the controller.

So I'm left thinking, do wheels make more front tyre smoke resulting in rapid front tyre wear?

You could use traction control and ASM or be more smoother with the steering wheel with less turning in angle. You should have better tyre wear than controller users if you get used to driving on a wheel better due to extra precision and if you your tyre wear is bad then you should be going much faster than them. Do the controller users use TCS or ASM? (the ones you race against). Do you use any aids and what car are you using?

We do same car races, not cars from are garage & its usually the slower cars we race under 300hp, but its the same problem when I drive more HP cars. We normally run 4 laps per race. If it was any more I couldn't compete.

As for driving aids, there all open to use & most guys use them, like ASM, traction control 5 or less, and skid recovery force ON. I use skid recovery force ON sometimes & everything else off.Maybe I should be going faster then the controller users if Im working the tyres more, but the difference is very small from my experience.

If I turn less I wont make the turn. I can put very little effort in & I can still get the front wheels to smoke.

SRF does allow you to smoke the tyres more due to giving more grip and allowing you turn harder. If you turn that off, it should stop you using the tyres as much but you will be slower as you will have less grip. l If you used the other aids it would slow you down but stop you smoking the tyres. The other option is to reduce steering angle.
 
Doing the endurance races really made me appreciate tire management and driving style. Using as much of the track as possible i.e. following proper racing lines and watching my speeds entering and exiting a corner. I know it's only a game, but GT5 has made me appreciate the skill it must take to be a real racecar driver.

From my expierance SRF on or off, the front tyres will still smoke the same.
Ill try & reduce steering angle & see if its any better:)

look at your diff set up that should help you

Brake harder/sooner coming into the turn and you shouldn't have that problem.

That might work against the computer AI but online you have far less freedom & not everyone can predict your moves & overall Id be just slower. I don't want to solve 1 problem by creating another.

When you're racing with cars not from your garage, you cant set it up.
 
When using a DS3 the game automatically adjusts the angle you are turning (e.g. full lock on the left stick in a fast turn turns the cars wheels less than in a slow turn.)
