ok, why the effin hell do FWD drag cars need wheelie bars??? its physically impossible for a FWD to pop a wheelie cos as soon as the front wheels leave the ground the car loses speed.
is it because of thebackwards rocking motion of the car under heavy acceleration? and if so, why no just stiffen up the rear springs?

this is my guess:
its to keep the car from "dipping" backwards too much to keep weight on the front wheels, so they dont lose traction.

Have you even seen a FWD dragster in real life? One that does less then 10s? They do squat, not as much as RWD drag cars but the wheelie bars are there to make sure the front of the car doesn't lift up too much.

Correct. Wheelie bars on an FWD car are actually there to lengthen the wheel base, in order to reduce weight transfer off the front wheels.

The would be more effective if you were allowed to preload them - have them pushing on the ground when the car is at rest - but that's against the rules. There must be at least 1 inch of airspace between the casters and the ground when the car is staged.

Also a lot of guy make it so the rear is softer, the car dips and it rides on the bars for a second or two. Not sure if that's legal in the pro divisions.

On one of the import racing shows a couple of years ago, there was this Integra that had a wheelie bar that was hieght adjustable automatically. It lifted the car nearly completely off the back wheels.
