I dont want to see a GT6 for a long while. there are updates for GT5 that shgould be done first.
GT2 was an outstanding game. If it wasnt for the graphics, I would still get it out now. One thing that was in GT2 that I really miss was the Tahiti Road track. It was a short track, with a good mix of turns and straights, and it was useful for tuning a car of any HP range to test it.
GT2 also had the best sound track.
GT3 was an amazing game. But it was missing things from GT2(like Tahiti Road) that I really missed, including a good number of favorite cars. The sound track wasnt as good eighther. OK, but sorta meh. Had much better graphics, but seemed to lose something in the street car races. Overall though, I spent at least as much time on GT3 as I did with GT2.
GT4, was a let down for me. The graphics were smoothed, but by this point many of the cars from GT3, and those that were already gone in GT3 from GT2 were gone or replaced by something else I didnt care for. And the soundtrack was hideous. Sorry, Japanese blues/jazz and no name band alternative keyboard music are not my thing. Racing to mediocre renditions of classical music is just not the same as pounding around Tahiti Road to Interstate Love Song by STP.
All in all, I had big big hopes for GT5 as it seemed like the franchise was going the way of Sega- more and more emphasis on graphics and less and less on content. So GT5 had to be really good or I was going to move on.
And really, GT5 is a good bit better then GT4, to me. Some of the custom tuning bits are gone for some cars( no more 960 HP 3000gt lol) but some of the other tuning bits are quite good and overall I like the way it was done. The list of cars is good, but there are still some missing(quite a few USA cars, and some Euro) from GT2 that I really miss. The new "inside the car" view is a whole new step in reality, and frankly it makes the standard cars much less interesting to me. Doing a rally race for instance, inside the car compared to outside is the most obvious example of the difference in immersion.
GT5 soundtrack is once again hideous, but that is partially mitigated by using my own music off the PS3. Too bad it only works in certain menus. BTW, the music in the tuning shop makes my wife visibly angry and causes me to blast through whatever tuning parts I am buying as fast as possibly. No song I have ever heard annoys me more then that tune. And my own music is not played here.
Anyway, in a nutshell, GT5 has turned out more or less to be a big improvement to GT4 for me. The immersion is better on premium cars, there is always the chance for something new on the seasonal events to entertain me, and best of all, this is the first GT since GT2 that I have not hesitated to "just go race" because I wanted to "just drive a car". 3 and 4 I always felt if i didnt "grind out" races for money or % completion I was wasting time, and in GT4 especially, hard earned money.
That said, PD really needs to start scheduled releases of upgraded cars. By which I mean, every month a batch of S cars need to be brought up to P cars. OR- a batch of new cars, S or P, need to be introduced to grow the list. Or a mix of both. Same with tracks. The rally section shows obvious improvment from GT4, yet it is lacking conent. Saw a request for a Pike Peak track. That would rule.
So anyway, GT6 should be like 5 years out, for the PS4, which will likely have 3D tech, which would of course mandate a new GT so I can 3D drive 1000 3D cars
