so when the trailer was released, was the game almost done or still in devolopement. How much must the game be completed in order for the trailer to be released?

Hi. Welcome to GT planet, where we are all experts in game design, marketing and coding. Please be advised that here at GTplanet, we have in depth information from developers and publishers the world over. Using my contacts within Rockstar, I can proudly tell you that Grand Theft Auto 5 was forfty, yes, forfty percent complete when the trailer was released.

Dude, no one other than Rockstar knows.

Be patient. Hopefully there will be a new trailer and some news revealed at E3 next month. I sure hope so anyway.

It's a fine line between wit and sarcasm.

I have a nasty feeling R* is going to announce more on GTA V the day RIGHT BEFORE E3 to steal E3's thunder.

Indeed there is. I personally found F1 Fan's post rather amusing, but I can understand why others may not.

That's fine if they do though. I think we can all agree, the sooner Rockstar announce some information the better. 👍

A few months ago they said they'd release GTA V info. Those few months have passed and MP3 is out so we are due any day now, I'm assuming it be soon since Bioshock Infinite has been delayed until February.

Yeah they said "no more on GTAV, we are concentrating on MP3. No more GTAV news until MP3 is released" and MP3 was released 2 days ago in England. So where's my GTAV news. Except from the big leak from the MP3 files and the early trailer there has been nothing about GTAV from R*.

Time's up, the trailer will be soon, it was either going to be right before the Max Payne 3 release, or a few weeks after. Dropping it right before Max Payne 3 would've been a gamble that would either help sales of MP3 (buy a related game to tide players over, plus start the crews feature on the social club) or hurt it a bit, but in the end, releasing it after is the safer choice.

Maybe that GTA V car list that was found in the MP3 files was done on purpose as a bit of PR, but that info has failed to make a big fuss at all.

Hard to say if that's a genuine hint, I'm not sure if Rockstar would be working from the metric calendar system or the imperial, and even if they were using the metric calendar, they might have still put that hint in there with marketing direction towards America, which does use the imperial system. (Rockstar being based in UK).

I'd find it lame if the next trailer does release on 24/05 instead of in a couple of weeks time, but a trailer's a trailer all the same.

I wouldn't doubt it. 2405 or the day before E3 would be the most logical times I think.

It's definately the 24th of May.

And why would it be lame if it's released on 2405? Personally it'd be lame if it were a couple of weeks time, it's been long enough already...

Didnt rockstar say they were 70 to 80% complete about a month after the trailer was released? With everything they can pool together from their other open world titles, I think we'll probably get a big tweak on physics, gameplay and story. This game is like the amalgamation of the last 8 years of development.

It sure has been a while since release of the trailer, I'm playing GTA IV again to kill time. But from what I've read on other sites the city is a huge bit larger than Liberty City with a huge amount more of activities to do and more buildings that you're able to go into.

It is going to be one of the biggest games of the year, here's to hoping it's released soon.

If I was to take a guess.. I'd bet on it being released around July/August. We should at least start seeing screenshots and/or videos quite soon (within the next 4 - 6 weeks). Sooner perhaps if I'm right about a July/August release.

Either way, there's no denying it is close now considering the trailer was released late last year.

Adding to that the NPCs have apparently been improved, such as hitting on girls, weight lifting, shopping, washing cars and way more.

I have heard there will be a shopping mall.. but I'm not saying this is true because I have no proof that it is true, but it does sound pretty good to me.

I would guess a September-November release date, but it could be delayed like Red Dead Redemption and IV.

Don't get your hopes up too high, none of these things have been confirmed or even mentioned officially

As you say, although it hasn't been officially confirmed from what I read it was apparently a "leak".

But I am an optimist not a pessimist. :D

:) I'm trying to be optimistic, but I wish I never started following the news about V so early, it makes it take forever!

A long wait but I have faith in Rockstar. I trust they will make a 10/10 game with GTAV and will be buying it on release day.

Why?

GTAVC was a solid 8.5/10, but their incessant need to modernise, expand and tinker has brought every game since down further and further.

GTASA needed three changes to become equal to VC: A map that wasn't 65% empty; The removal of the eat/sleep/exercise or CJ dies system; Less pandering to "inner-city stereotypes". I'll admit the third one is something of a personal annoyance, but it's damned weak writing to have a lead character as a black youth embroiled in drug and gun culture - though I'll grant you that an 80s Italian-American mafiosi wise-guy in Miami is not exactly uncliched - and if I wanted to listen to wall-to-wall rap I wouldn't have double-glazing. The natural byproduct of such a lead character is that kids who play the game (yes, they shouldn't. But yes, they do - the 12 year olds at the school I worked at thought it was awesome I played the same game as them) become wiggers and there's nothing more irritating than a 12 year old wigger. Not even sand under your fore. Didn't see many cliched Italian-American 12 year olds after GTAVC...

Oh, also, who in hell thought "fun gameplay" translates to "spend twenty minutes commuting" or "go and have a haircut"?

GTA4 was an abomination. Despite dropping off those three annoyances - though it has to be said that a huge map of irrelevant buildings is not so much better than a huge map of irrelevant countryside - it contrived to be almost as tedious and fun free as SA. How? Well, for a start there was much less GTA - fewer cars, fewer missions, easier missions - but it pretty much boiled down to the "friends" thing. The cellphone was a good idea, but the friends crippled the game. Tack on the dreary writing and banal DEAL or REVENGE endings and we've sunk to a 4/10 game at best.

GTAVC was... a little on the small side - a quick gamer could do the storyline in 2 hours and complete 100% inside 12, if they knew what they were doing. The no swimming thing was a downside, resulting in many spurious deaths. But ultimately it was just fun. You drove or flew around like an arse, blowing crap up in a slightly racially insensitive manner - the GTAVC record book on here shows just how much time beyond what the game itself measured in percentage points was spent just playing the hell out of it. Rockstar got so caught up in their own controversy - sleeping with hookers and running them over for a refund! Someone call Jack Thompson! - that they forgot the fun and went for the knuckle with male nudity, Hot Coffee, gimps with double-enders and so on.

For GTAV, I just want the fun back. Set it wherever you want, set it whenever you want (we've done "modern" though; no more please), just make it fun. Write a fun, consistent storyline - no-one's interested in plot twists any more thanks to M. Night Shyalaman riding that mule until its back broke - and let us blow crap up. Stop making us hunt to all four corners of a giant map of sod all to find magic feathers, or pigeons, or Tiki heads, or one-off cars. Some collapsible buildings would be nice - I'll give a shiny pebble to the first dev that gives us an open world game that's actually open like this - because sinking tank main gun rounds and RPGs into a wall should result in carnage. Give us the fun races (remember the "Auto" part of the name?), give us the hokey missions (I'd like to mention burning The Truth's weed field from SA and the bank job from 4 here - great missions, bucked the trends of the game completely).

Hell, just give us Driver: San Francisco with boobs, explosives, some running about and a lot more swearing, but skip off the OBE crap.

Nice post Famine. Pretty much sums it up for me, especially the gang culture of SA.

However, I don't mind IV. It's in no way a classic, but I seem to like it more than most people. It is a boring game, but they did inject some fun with the DLC. Much like GT3 was a stepping stone to GT4, I hope that GTAIV is a prototype for GTAV. A ginormous Los Santos and the countryside will be most excellent.

A ginormous Los Santos, hyperbolically meaning bigger than SA's, and the countryside is what we are getting.

Not too sure on the supposed protagonist in the trailer though. He looks a bit... old.
