Where are the rules?

I've been wondering if it's alright to cuss on the forums or not, but I can't find the darn rules.

^Please don't ban me for that. :scared: lol

And I JUST noticed the "Forum Guidelines" on this sub-forum. Crap. :S

Well, if I may be so bold to post a suggestion, there should be a link, simply labeled (like "Rules") up around the top where search, My GTPlanet, etc. is.
The others are tucked away.

The "rules" of the forum are very simple and, as I've mentioned, presented clearly to you before you join the forum. They're not hard to remember, either.

Yeh you can cuss we will be saying good bye to you though if you do.:D

I wasn't saying anything about the rules themselves, rather where the link should be placed. So it's more visible.
You click register, you enter you DoB, and then you are met with a couple of paragraphs containing...
By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.
Once read you tick agree and proceed.

Or do you agree to everything without reading it first?

Personally i think the AUP link at the bottom 'blends' in with the Privacy Policy and all the other stuff i don't generally read on forums/websites etc.

I think a Forum Rules link would probably get more people clicking it since it's more appropriate/obvious/relevant sounding?

I dunno, i've always had this view but never voiced it until now.

Quoted for the truth. The AUP is like a glass knife, you get a glimpse of it when you join, then it disappears, then it guts you. People tend to remember things better if they see them often, the AUP isn't one of those things.

You can self-censor if it's done fully. Typing "****" is acceptable, but if you typed the word in full, the forum will do that for you anyway. Typing "****"* is unacceptable because you've deliberately partially self-censored a word, leaving little doubt as to what you meant it to read, and thus bypassed the filter we have in place to eliminate this sort of thing. The same goes for replacing characters such as "$h!t"* in order to make something that shouldn't be here appear.

Jordan wishes this this site to be a place of intelligent and friendly discussion, and swearing contributes nothing to that. You have the option to use a 🤬 smiley, which conveys the same meaning, without the necessity to use the real words or make the effort to bypass the filter.

*Don't bother reporting this post, I know what I did here, and it's being used as an example of what not to do!

Basically, if the word is bad enough the forum will automatically sensor it; if it doesn't, it's acceptable to use, although it's more polite to use the 🤬 smiley (: censored :, without the spaces). You'll only get in trouble if you try to get around the swear filter as Smallhorses demonstrated above.

Or do you agree to everything without reading it first?

Doesn't everyone?

Oh, by the way, did you forget to send that $1,000 check that you agreed to send every month when joining GTP? (I don't have to, I'm a moderator.)

It might be nice if the rules were in the small box on the upper right hand corner, actually... labelled "Da Rulez" for clarity.

But basically, except for grammar, everything in the rules is common sense, and most people never fall afoul of them.

You can cuss as much as you want...
Just don't swear.

I'm going...:(

Will we? Ever heard of the swear filter?

Folk who receive a warning/infraction for obscene language from me receive something like the following...

If you must swear, and we'd rather you didn't, please let the swear filter asterisk out the whole word, or use the 🤬 smiley. Do not attempt to (badly) censor it out yourself whilst leaving it plainly obvious what the word is.

I will admit I didn't read the rules when I first joined but I have read them after, but I do know the "general forum rules"

Which include
No sexual material.
No swearing.
No harassment.
Be respectful of others.
Respect other peoples beliefs.
No impersonating others.
No bypassing forum filters.
No advertising(with the exception of personal trading/sales threads)
Do not discuss illegal activity's.
Do not share other peoples personal information
Do not be a troll or give them food.

And this forum has its own rules on top of the normal ones.
Like no text speak, No false, misleading, or inaccurate, Post in English and use good grammar.

All of which can be found HERE

Slight problem with that, the link is broken. ;)

I think that it might be an idea to make the AUP more visible, however those who get banned probably still wouldn't keep within the rules even if they were prominent.

The "rules" will be linked from a more visible location in a future iteration of the site, but I expect that to have very little positive influence on actual compliance. Most people do seem to have enough social intelligence here to understand the bounds of acceptable behavior. If they do not, they are unlikely to comply with or respect any rules regardless of how often they are reminded of them.

Sorry, couldn't resist that one!

^A good example of what not to do, actually. My post, that is.

It was late and firefox says saying activitys was wrong and when I did activity's it said it was right, being morning I know it is "activities".
