Where did the dirt go?

I remember grinding long races and noticing that the sponsors on my race car would turn dark and covered with dirt/dust, so much in some cases that I could not even see the "Red Bull" on my X2010's front wing.

But now I have noticed that none of my cars accumulate any dirt on them, thus rendering the car wash feature of GT AUTO sort of useless.

Anyone else notice this? I'm thinking it was disabled with one of the updates we have seen in the past little while.

I don't quite remember seeing dirt and grime build up on the cars after long usage. I got the game on Christmas, so maybe if they did disable it in a patch, I never got to see what is was like before that.

But I do think the car wash is pretty much useless, as the cars never really get dirty in the game. I remember in past GT games, some of my cars would just lose their shine after awhile, and doing a car wash would just make it shiny again. I don't know if this happens in GT5 yet, as I haven't used one particular car all that often, but even still, I think they should add actual dirt/grime textures and detail to the cars after you use them for long races or if you use a particular car often enough.

As far as I know, dirt only accumulates during a single race, and disappears once the race is over. Some people think that after a while the cars lose their shine and that the car wash restores it, but I have never seen it.

i put 2000 miles on my minolta before making another loading screen happen, and when i returned to gt life and went to the wash, it was extremely dirty with white flaky dust and lost a small bit of its shine (it is only a standard though). But this is a extreme case.

this was about 2 weeks ago, so something is definitely wrong with the wash feature

Yar; I clearly remember in GT4 having to wash your car after a particularly long grind, to get it shiny and clean again.

I haven't seen the grime linger on cars in GT5. o_o

The cars get very dirty in the long races (dirt races especially... obviously). There's never any evidence of this after the race though :(

As far as I have experienced the dirt accumulates for certain distance and then the cleanliness is restored automatically (i.e. no car wash needed) when past that limit.

I noticed this in the endurance races with the MX-5 at Tsukuba. After 2-3 races (can't remember) the dirt which was very obvious between restarting the event was gone without washing it.

It does not make sense but it seems they do not want to offend car makers by showing their cars completely dirty or something. That's just my guess. Just like we do not get mechanical failures in the maseratis, alfa romeos or jaguars

it's an illusion. all the car wash does is run a temporary "shiny" animation across the surface of the car but it never actually changes the texture after a lot of racing.

I've just dropped in on Bob to discover my Audi R10 stealth has not a dent or spec of dirt on it after 22 and a half hours of LM.
All the other cars are filthy, even the standards, and the premiums have damage to them.
I'm sure Bob must incurred some damage even at lvl39, he's not perfect and yet the car is spotless.
Any other car I've used in this race has been filthy by the end. Could it be that the stealth models don't accumulate dirt? Can anyone explain this?

See the thing is for me, I really need the cars to be "shiny" for the photo's unless I am taking rally car shots.

I'd much prefer the dirt to stay on the cars until washed. I don't want my cars looking new because they shouldn't after many 24 hour races, it would add a purpose to the car wash.
I still can't work out the mystery of the R10 (mentioned above).
