Pretty simple question, what brand/website would you guys recommend to me where I can buy a good gaming computer with vista and the necessary software running on it?

Unless you want to build one you aren't really going to get much for a $1000 as far as I can tell, although I'm not sure what kind of gaming you are talking about. Do you want to be able to run Crysis at high end? My current setup is high end but not so high end I had to break the bank to get it and if I wanted to build a similar but newer set up I probably could do it for about $900 excluding the monitor.

The Dell XPS is supposed to be good but the most basic package starts as $999 according to their website. My buddy has an XPS notebook and I'm pretty impressed with it, except it has Vista which is awful in my opinion. Otherwise check out newegg.com which has pretty competitive prices.

Here are computers in your price range sans the monitor which can be had at Costco pretty inexpensive.

I would recommend getting one with an 8800GT graphics card though since the lower end ones will go out of date rather quickly it seems. The 9800 while great isn't really worth the price increase. Although if you can find one for a reasonable price then go for it.

Check Ceiling_Fan's thread. We priced him a very decent PC at around $1100.

Building a computer is easy, if I can do it without being real hardware tech savvy I think anyone could.
