I wish I could feel like you guys but I can't. And I even had the game about 5 days or so early and still can't. Everything is "almost" good in the game for me.
A-spec racing: Almost fun until you have to contend with braindead A.I.
B-spec racing: zzzzzzzz
Photomode: Nice feature, great pics. But I already bought a five hundred dollar camera this past summer. I'd just go take pics of the real things
Challenges: Some of them are fun and some of them just plain stink
The Cars: We all know by now the very high ups and the basement downs
Online racing: Great fun until the action gets hot and you hit a wall at 200mph only to bounce back on the track at 200mph as if nothing happened. Lack of game features and if you spend too much time online your career is stagnant. Win 200 races in a row and it means nothing. Hell I don't even think you get a trophy for winning an online race. You get one for selecting Custom soundtracks though.

I was racing with my usual group tonight and it always feels like somethings missing. More like we're just out there sorta racing and not like we usually are. It just doesn't feel "serious", fun serious not real life deadly serious, lol

It feels like there's a "spice" missing from this soup. I'll wait till they finish with the patches they plan to introduce , maybe that'll help. I do know one thing, if they can implement some real damage online that will go a long way.

Really?

Bad A.I.? Better than in previous GT games.

Used car lot with changing selection? Had that in previous games.

Can't buy all the cars at once, need to win some money first? Previous games.

Licence tests, challenges, some of them hard? Previous games.

Stupid reward cars for some races? Again, the same.

Cars that are in the game for historic reasons, more than for racing? Again...

Lots of Japanese cars with many versions? Again...

The game feel a little rough around the edges, except for the actual driving? Again...

There was a long wait? Again...

What the heck are you comparing this game to? The feel of the drive is the most important thing, and no other game comes close to the the GT series in that. And compared to the previous games in the series, GT5 is the same, or better.

Should it be even more of a step up from the previous games in the series? Probably not. PD spent six years on it. Most of it probably doing infinite small adjustments to the feel and the physics, and that's exactly what their main focus should be.

My initial impression of this game were, well, not good. When it arrived on my doormat I impatiently tore off the wrapping with as much gusto as I had all those years ago when my PS1 arrived with the first Gran Turismo.

In retrospect, GT5 it could never hope to live up the the huge expectations I had laid at it's feet.

One week in though, and I am in love. Yes, there are LOTS of things I don't like about this game which have all been mentioned in these hallowed forum halls, so I will not go over them again. Deep down though, this game is just so.....GT. It still has the spirit of the 1st game, you just have to do a little digging and be a little more forgiving for its failings.

What really swung it for me was the Lupo Gti challenge. 1 lap of Nordschliefe in a Lupo Gti cup car against 15 other identical cars. It was just pure driving pleasure and a hoot. Also a few laps of Le Mans in my fave car also saw me grinning like an idiot. When I realised that 4 hours had passed and it was 2am on a work night, I knew that GT was back!

I look forward to many updates to come but even if they don't, I will still love this game. Warts and all. 👍

Well let's all show that to the critics!

At Metacritic there are a lot of negative reviews, please help them get a better first look at the game .... its well deserved... don't you agree?

So here is the metacritic user review part ... please help and share your experiences !

Thanks!👍

I too thought b-spec was a waste of space and time .... but since I'm now at level 13 ... i'm starting to get enthusiastic ..... please give it some time ... it's worth it! :)

I am aware that GT5 has problems, flaws and more bugs than an Insect Zapper on a hot summers night.
But, I love this game and here is why:
I am 50 years old, I never was into gaming of any kind until some years ago someone with a Playstation 1 and GT2 put a controler in my hand and said 'you like cars, give it a go'
I now play all sorts of games but GT is still my passion and the reason I own a PS3 !!
Every time I load GT5 I get that same tingly feeling in my stomach that I got all those years ago, I don't let the bugs frustrate me as there is ALWAYS the perfect moment, the perfect lap, the perfect pass that makes it all worth while.

Apart from the fact that I am MUCH younger (well 3 years younger:guilty:) this is pretty much what I'd have written.

When I first got GT5 I was disappointed like many others. But as I got further into the game and started racing faster car around the nurburgring ect I found myself playing till 1am or sometimes later on a work night (up at 5am). Now I love it so much I don't notice the terrible shadows and other flaws while playing. Iv even started playing b spec mode which I hated. My driver is better now so I can leave him racing and earn money for nothing. This game is brilliant and with DLC almost a certainty it's only going to get better

My first love is Route 246. I've walked it twice in real life in Tokyo and it is still one of the most pleasant walks I take in my life. I've "driven" it 10's of thousands of times in many different cars and it never gets old.

Check these out:

Seattle is the other one I like that I have also walked.

Wow! I never realised Route 246 was actually a faithful recreation of a genuine route. That's pretty impressive.
Should do it again and compare GT5 to real life.

Well I started off disappointed and those menus.... horrible. the install took for ever and at first it seemed we'd just got GT4 with slightly better graphics and an even worse menu system.

However, it's grown on me a great deal. I'm beginning to get more of a feel for the cars and catching slides and reading what's happening so I can drive by feel.

Even the AI are growing on me. At first I didn't see any difference but I've gradually noticed them taking notice of what I'm doing and having slightly different characters.

I've realised I don't care about the standard premium thing because I don't find cockpit view realistic and when I'm racing the cars still look very good.

There are loads of things, like the AI, which should be improved, some things which should be added, like damage (in GT mode) but it is definitely growing on me and I'm having fun.

I do have to agree, chaps. I too have been quick to judge (and there are things that need fixing it is true) but the driving is still a joy and the AI is different I do concur.

At first I didn't think so and was giving them many choice words for running into me/turning into me/spinning me out - I was reduced to desk-pounding rage at one point to my most intense embarassment :O.

But then I read through the thread on correcting false impressions of the AI (aye, I read every post, flamey-bits and all :D). I realised that many of the things I was cursing out the AI were actually my fault.

Diving into the apex of the first corner from the back of the pack, overtaking on the outside but not leaving enough room for the AI car, slamming on my brakes and sliding into the back of them (they do brake too early and kept catching me by surprise). All those sins are of the human driver, not the AI.

An important realisation I had, as Matt noted above, is that the AI has difference personalities and skill levels and behave differently on different courses. So I have had loonies run right into the back of me down the straights of oval tracks but I have also had AI drivers notice me gaining a racing-line advantage into a corner and move across to give me room! Now that is good - rare but lovely to see it when it happens.

On the 'Racing' front, the GT series has always been one where you made you own race depending on the AI field ('Rabbit' cars used to spoil this somewhat).

So whether you go in overgunned because you want to win for cash and xp or try to match your car to the AI and drive 'properly' is a free-choice. That's the way we've always liked it and I am glad that that has not changed.

Once again I find myself agreeing with KitchenBoy. I get excited every time I load a GT, I loaded GT4 this morning and it still makes me feel good. I just love cars, this isn't a game and I don't think it ever has been. It's a giant box full of toy cars and places to play with them. You make your own fun, me and a couple of GTP guys did a one lap kart race around the ring on Friday night, it was a hoot.

I bet my years pay that half of those are Xbox fanboys bashing it anyway they could. The sad part is that fanboyism is alive and well and launch of GT5 really showed its ugly head.

I've always been on the positive side. It's clear the game has it's issues, but come on... it's Gran Turismo! No GT has ever been perfect, yet most of us have enjoyed the heck out of them nonetheless.

I always felt people were too technical about their reviews, focusing more on the game itself then the experience. Mercenaries 2 was a great example for me, reviews bashed it to no end, but I had a ton of fun playing it. GT5 is the same to me, it has it's flaws and all, but I still have fun.

argeed...when reviewers spend too much time on menu load times....you cannot win that battle...

My biggest gripes have more to do with the subtractions from previous games. We're missing a ton of great races (off the top of my head, the NA race and most of the manufacturer races) and great tracks (Seattle, Motegi, etc/)

I also hate that song you hear when you sit for too long after you finish a race. **** makes me want to throw the controller, which never gets out of sleep mode quick enough.

You found the perfect metaphor for Gran Turismo: a toy box in a child's room, taking the cars in it to fantasy places.

I think you have exactly described, what the GT series really is about. And this is also the reason, why it will never be the hardcore racing sim, that some people expect from Yamauchi. It simply serves a totally different purpose.

Yep I think so too ... but its sad for those parents checking out this site for their kids Christmas Gifts ... it's an unfair figure .... because of all the "zero's" rewarded.

I appreciate anyones opinion ... but a zero doesn't represent an honest opinion about GT5 ....:(
