it's all about using a surround system and having the sound setting in the GT5 options menu set to small theater. turbos and superchargers sound realistic. You can tune the sound of your system to your liking by adjusting front to back volume. back speakers make exhaust front make the engine, turbo and supercharger sounds. Refer to video below as well

Having a great sound system cannot compensate for the fact that the majority of the SAMPLES used are wrong. For exanple, no matter how much you try, you cannot make the GT5 Corvette C5.R sound like a V8, let alone the real thing.

He is talking about bringing out small details sounds like turbo spool and SC whine which he is right, you will not hear those sounds with regular tv speakers. The small theater option really brings out the sound. 👍

That´s something that some people will never understand. It´s frustrating that people confuse sound samples with sound quality. I´ve always admired GT5P and GT5 for their sound, since I think it´s the best sound that any car game could have at this moment. But the Samples are so wrong in some cases, that it´s sad.

A few months ago I had an argue with someone. I stated that I liked the RM Corvettes, but that their sound sucked so much that it ruined the experience. The guy replied at me stating that I should get a 7.1 surround system like the one he had, and only then I would enjoy it. I explained him over and over that it wouldn´t make a difference... He never understood. You could understand how frustrating it was... I just imagine PD reading all this comments and feeling the frustration as well. Considering how unproffessional the person in charge of choosing the samples for cars in PD is, it bothers me is that these people might be misleading PD on fixing something that is not the actual problem.

I was mad originally with the sound and we already had a sound system then one day I stumbled into the sound settings in options of GT5 and I tried out all the settings and with small theater I hear the turbo spool up, blow off valve and supercharger whine. I drift a lot and shuffle race a lot and I can even hear turbos and blowoff valves around me when drifting or in close battle shuffle races if the other cars have turbos.
 
Pretty much all muscle cars.
 
All the subaru's.
