Which car you choose to run the 24 Hours of Nurburgring?

oh, so you're actually driving it now? Good luck then.. Funny to hear though hehe.. Must be knowing the track well eh?

I used a Camaro SS RM with 487HP(stock broken in). All I bought was a complete set of tires. Finished the race 1 lap ahead. It's no fun using a LMP car or something that matches the AI's cars. Use something slower, much slower.

Agreed. Although I am not driving something slower to make the race closer. I just don't like the LMP cars. Not only that, isn't the real Nurb 24hr based on production cars anyway? Why PD went with LMP cars is beyond me...(mostly)

the GT-R of Kaz used at Nurburgring 24h 2011 is slow enough?

Yeah, that's true. You'd suppose Kaz would know what kind of cars race there having raced there himself and all of that. Prototypes feel so out of place in the Nordschleife, in my opinion.

Prototype sportscars used to race at the Nordschleife back in the Group C days I think :/ Guessing that was the last time they were used at the 'ring.

Yet to race the 24hr sarthe race. But I will be choosing the team oreca viper. It will be a easy win, but I don't want to lose a 24hr race, if I had lots of spare time, I would definitely try a dtm car or something.

Yea after reading how everyone is so far ahead with the LMP's, I now plan on using the Schulze GT-R...unless that's still too fast.

Has anyone experimented with lower grade tyres in this race? What does it take to be competitive with say, sport mediums? I'd prefer not to run an LMP in this race (had enough of that at Le Mans) but I'm also not that interested in running an underpowered car on race softs. I'm thinking that maybe a tuned GT/supercar could do it on sport tyres but haven't tried it yet myself.

I'm going to test a Lexus IS-F RM this week on Sport Softs.

I was considering running a fully modded R35 Race Car. It is as fast as the LMPs.
But you can win it with a stock GT500 car?
Or the 2D?

Are the AI LMPs that slow?

If they are, I might use the RX-7 TC. I love that car.

Can I say, once again...I am disappointed that the Ultimate Race of PD and Gran Turismo 5 has LMPs in the field when they shouldn't be. There are likely 50+ legit cars they could have used to fill the field.

There is a video on YouTube that shows an RX7 TC doing the World Circuit Tours Nurburgring race and he manages to get first barely.

Peugeot 905. The lack of torque makes it easier to drive all around.

I am currently sitting parked on Lap 1 of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. It is 2:50 in and the conditions are perfect and the field is comprised of mostly LMPs.
I will turn it off after about 8 hours and watch the replay to collect lap time data for the field.
Until this thread, I didn't know it could be won with much less than an LMP. I know the AI will run faster if they are pushed, so I will know to account for that as well.
I have been looking for a car to use for this race as it is the only one left for me to complete, so this thread came up at the perfect time.
Thanks to the OP, Cucobr.

has anyone tried a supercar like the 458, enzo, mp4-12c, gt-r spec-v, lambo, rm corvette, etc. maybe?

I am currently about 6 hours in the race, using the Mazda 787B. Its stock, only maxed the downforce. I am glad that i choice a car with good headlights, as its about to get really dark now.

Also i am running the Rain Interm tires for 2 hours now, but when it stops to rain, i will use the RH tires, i can just get 3 laps with those.

Is that the slowest car anyone has used, the R35 TC? I want to get this race complete, but it'll be no fun for me doing it in a LeMans style car. I'd rather do it in something much slower.

This is one of the reasons why I wish the game would match the AI to whatever car you enter the race with.

Yeah, I would like that as well. Fiat 500F 24 Hours. You'd barely be able to make 2 laps.
Oh and I did see a Blitz Skyline '07 in the race list, being driven by a S.He.

I'm using the Mazda 787B at Le Mans right now, and I'm going about 6-7 laps on RH tires, and 7-8 on RR (full wets), and at least at Le Mans, I can go about 1-2 laps longer b/w pit stops than the opposition, so I hope that may help :D

I gave it a quick go in the BMW M3 GTR Race Car, with engine stage 3 upgrade (~550 hp) and sports medium tires. Did 8'41 on the first lap and had a 3s lead on the 905 in 2nd. My tires were around 90% and fuel roughly 7/8 left, so I'm guessing this setup could go a full tank (at least 7 laps) per stint. The lap wasn't that great and this was against what's probably the easiest AI line-up - 905, McLaren F1 and Audi R10 the only LMPs.

Sadly it seems the tire wear patch broke this race... I noticed after I parked my car and let the AI run for a few laps that all LMPs wreck their rears in 2 laps but keep going for a 3rd. None went under 10 minutes on lap 3 so you probably don't need better than 9min/lap to win now. :(

After reviewing the video, all of the cars pit for tires every three laps. The leader (Bentley Speed 8) ran 6.8 laps an hour in perfect conditions. In 100% wet conditions the Speed 8 ran a little less than 5 laps an hour.
After 12 hours, the Bentley is on the verge of lapping the field.

When their tires are worn the AI uses a LOT of Traction Control.

The field includes:
(as they run after 12 hours)
Bentley Speed 8
Audi R8 Race Car '01
Mazda 787B
BMW McLaren F1 GTR
Audi R10 TDI Race Car
Jaguar XJ220 LM
Nissan R390 GT1
Audi R8 LMS Playstation
Audi R8 LMS
GT by Citroen
Lister Storm V12

I honestly don't care about the competition, I just want to do the race in a slower car. Thanks for the info on the lap times.

I wonder if it could be done in a Lotus Elise RM.

Try the Intermediates at Le Mans in the rain.

I've got less than an hour left at The Ring...but my son and his friend are watching NFL playoffs in The Cave so I had to 'suspend' it. (Hopefully the Browns will be in the playoffs next year)
