What game was it that got you started playing racing games.
The first decent racing game i had was a game called REVS on the BBC, which for its time was quite a good game (not sure how many of you are old enough to remember this game).
Over the years i had quite a few racing games but none that really hit the spot.
For me the first game which really got me interested in racing games was Rage racer on the playstion.
Which was the first game that got you into racing?

I remember REVS - considering what it was running on it was pretty good 👍.

The game that got me into virtual racing tho' was Gran Turismo. Before that I was a firm member (ooh err missus :D) of the "I don't like racing games" fraternity :o.

Wrong forum,

Anyway it was some Formula 1 game for Atari 2600, but the first racing game I got hooked to was Street Rod 1 for Commodore 64.

I was in that fraternity to.

This is in the wrong forum, but Gran Turismo 3 really got me into racing games. Thank you to the guy in the shop that recommended it to me. :D

I don't really remember. I suppose GT1, but it could have been some old NES game I played. I liked cars and racing before GT1.

I had many odd racing titles on Amiga. Sega's Virtua Racing was the first racing game to truly excite. :D

Pole Position.

Just leave the thread here; a lot of us never visit the "other" video game forums, anyhow.

The first racing game I played loads was Nigel Mansell's Grand Prix on my Amstrad CPC464.

You had a turbo boost option that you could use. It went from 1 to 4. On 4, it drank petrol but went like stink. I loved beating the AI whilst leaving the turbo on 1!

That's the Spectrum one. The Amstrad one was more colourful, but you get the idea.

Thanks pupik.
If this is in the wrong place i appologise. What annoys me is the fact that if this thread should not be here then surely "best in game music evah" thread started by Famine should not be here either. People are very quick to point out a NOOBS mistake but never say anything to long standing members.

I think i was hooked.. form this little game thing that they call "1000 games in one".... and it was little block cars that look like a figure 5. and you had to dodge the other "cars". and as the levels progressed your car got faster. (does anyone know what im talking about)

Gran turismo 1 was my first virtual racing game to get me hooked.

I’m also of the view that the rumble strip could do with a broader range of topics.

ANK, welcome to the Planet.

You are not your post count

i was partial to the GT series, but the game that really kickstarted me into racing games was prject gotham racing

Pole Position and Grand Prix on the Atari got me started. I loved them but I was never truly addicted until I played Test Drive on my Commodore 64 and Out Run in the arcade with eth moving seat. After that I always checked out racing games. Unfortunately I never fealt fully satisfied until a friend with a Playstation let me play Gran Turismo.

After I got my next paycheck I went out and bought a Playstation and Gran Turismo. At the time I had Need For Speed 2 on my PC but it never got played again.

I'm surprised I haven't seen that one yet. First racing game I recall playing was Rad Racer, with the Ferrari 308 and the Lotus F1 Car, but I wasn't hooked on that one much.

Its good to see alot of old games listed here.
How do you get pictures on. When i try all i seem to be able to do is get thumbnails on.

The one game that got me into racing games was the first game i ever got for the PS1:

Destruction Derby :D

I loved it!! so i got DD2 which only strenghened my liking for racing games, then came Toca Touring Cars...

Happy days...

The first racing game that got me hooked was Mario Kart 64, anyone remember that? I had so much fun battling it out with my friends, and it had just this arcade fun to it.

However, GT series wise, GT3 was in the series that I played. :guilty:
