I have some money and want to buy a fast lm race car.

Im stumped on which one too buy.

sauber c9 race car
mazda 787b
r89cp

These are the ones I have a choice over.

I like the 787bs sound
But I am in love with the c9 handling
and the r89 is in the middle of both

I'd eliminate the 787B, as that car is premium and you could lose out on the other two.

I would personally choose the Sauber C9.

Yeah, if you're trying to get all three eventually I'd pick up a standard one now before it goes away, I'd get the C9 between those two, hands down.

Personally though the Mazda is my favorite and I'd just get it.

R89CP... I guess... The C9 is nice, but it's so plain looking. The 787b would be the favorite out of those three (and it's premium) but you can buy that one whenever you want.

Those group-C cars are insane, quirky and come from an era of total motoring madness (plus, if you ever choose to use it online, it will be the rarest of the three). Go for it!

R89C (not CP BTW) handles actually friendlier than C9, and with SRF on, couldn't believe how smooth it was...a lot better than 787B actually.

The R89C is many times underestimated due to the R92CP but it is really a great machine. In GT4 (not sure if in GT5 too) the R89C had greater acceleration then both R92CP and Sauber C9, doing the quarter mile in 9.3 seconds if I recall correctly.

R89C in GT4 was more coveted, as it was only available through the Hell of Green Hell Mission 34. In this game, the R89C, the C9, the R92CP, the 905 and the XJR9 all are great picks, but I like the C9 better due to its being a shoo-in to win all German Events.

how would you compare those three with the CLK-LM? i just got that one and, although it seems to take some time to setup right, is super fast, super stable, and predictable/balanced. kinda ugly and all, but it eats up the ring even more than the CLK-Touring.

never driven the other 3 before but am ready to buy another myself. the only other competing car i have is my Minolta, which is pretty awesome (1040hp). i'm also deliberating among the 787b and C9.

IMO it wouldn't be fair. Though CLK-LM is a GT1 car (just like Nissan R390 GT1, Porsche 911 GT1 which was not in the game)which was the dominant group in Le Mans before it became LMGTP(Toyota GT-One '99, in '98 it's also a GT1 car)& gradually marginalised as the manufacturers quitted Le Mans, and carried some Group C elements, it was designed not to be as fast as Group C monsters such as C9, XJR9, 787B & 905.

I don't get the fuss about the 787.... It doesn't even sound well.

Opinions vary,I think the car is perfect in handling, braking, fun, stability, looks and yes, sound, which is amazing coming from someone who loves the baritone rumble of V8's and fooling around in a Z06.That being said if the OP has the standard car's in the UCD,get them first. They're rare and can't be bought anytime like the 787B.

Get C9.

Any cash left over then get XJR-9.
Also, I recommend the Zonda LM Race Car and thats not bad for a 1m.

The engine wails like banshee (not perfect in the game), it has a rotary, it's gorgeous, it's the only Japanese car to win the 24 hours of Le Mans. Aside from all that it's also quite capable around a track.

funny, i've been waiting for a C9 to show up forever. now this thread has lit a fire under me.. and still no C9, not for a few weeks now. =<

I agree 👍, car is perfection for my eyes and ears, especially on the start up! I just need to tune both 787B and XJR-9 to go around the track, my R92CP, R89C, and C9 are planted..

For real? Try racing it with a quality higher end 5.1 surround sound system with the volume cranked and it's epic on so many levels. The start up noise when you change to the car in your garage is just orgasmic!

Not to mention the history behind the car and it's outlandish paint job and styling!
