I'm looking at upgrading from my homemade wooden wheel stand and I'm looking at either the gt omega stand or the playseat challenge both have pros and cons from what I have read on reviews but I would like to know other peoples experience maybe from some one who has had both the two biggest problems for me are the gt omega not being able to hardmount my t3pa pedals and the playseat not having a shifter mount any advice on these would be much appreciated
 
I just got a GT Omega, it's pretty good but the shifter mount is a bit meh, get the V2 mount if you can. The V1 that came with the stand just adds to the deployment time, it's probably heavier than the V2, probably not as sturdy and it collides with the wheel support arms. Also the deck that the wheel mounts to seems to be kind of loose even with the wing nuts tightened so much that my fingers hurt, but it's tight enough to not matter while playing. For £100 it's a pretty good buy.

do you have hardmounted pedals or use the clamp
 
I made a wooden cockpit like yourself and have been looking to upgrade to a new stand for the past few months. I also recently decided to go back to a triple monitor setup but did it right this time. Rather than 24" screens I've gone for 40" screens this time and needed a secure way to mount them. I found this http://sim-lab.eu/product/triple-monitor-mount/ which arrived recently. It made from aluminium profile which is strong and light but it's also a really clever system which is easy to put together and very adaptable to individual needs. And once together it's rock solid. It's very impressive. Sim lab also do cockpits but to be honest after seeing the stand there is no reason why you couldn't buy all the materials and connectors yourself and build something bespoke that meets your needs. That is definitely what I will be doing for my next rig. Just do a search for aluminium profile cockpit and do some research. It's a little bit more effort but you'll end up with something that fits your needs perfectly and you'll definitely get more for your money.

Thanks guys I decided on the playseat as it seems to suite my needs best and I have also seen a few clever ways to mount the shifter also didn't want to wait till next week for the GT omega
 
I've had a Playseat Challenge for around a month, it's a great piece of kit.

Good to know cant wait to finish work got a 12hr shift to do then a long wait for the courier to drop it off don't think I will get a race until Saturday

Try tightening the wing nuts a little extra with a wrench. I had the same issue as you, and that did the trick - haven't moved an inch since.
