Which way to play?

Hi,

I'm new to GT3 (playing day and night for 2 weeks) and have a question on gameplay / longevity. I've just won a polyphony001 and now find that I can use it in a lot of races where the computer is using a lot of lower powered cars. I'm tempted to use it just to win, but somehow I think that doing so may ruin the long term appeal of the game - when the game's complete what else is there to do?

What are your views - do you choose cars to race that are matched to the race, or not? - I'd be interested to hear some veteran's thoughts.

Thanks

Well, what I've traditionally done with the other GT games (still finishing GT3 - about 7% to go!) is go back to races that I'd already won with slower cars, to find what the slowest car I can win a race with is.

There's not much more satisfying that winning races with a car inferior to the rest of the field!

You'll find that you'll keep coming back to GT3 and running a very wide spectrum of cars in races - I think this will particularly be the case in GT3 as the differences in the driving experience of each car are quite marked (compared to the other GT games) so you'll need differing driving techniques to be quick in FR, FF, 4WD and MR.

How big a part do the settings play? I find that if I simply upgrade cars to the max, it's not too hard to win races (or do things change on the professional races?)

Personally, I would try to enter cars simular to what you are racing against. It gives you a better feeling of accomplishment when you win.

By the way, how did you get a Polyphony 001 so quickly? I had been playing for over two months, nearly three, before I got my first Formula 1!

Ran the enduro speedway race - 100 laps and won by 2 laps. It was tough going - I'd been up all night playing and started the race at 5.00am - the last 15 laps I was having to keep standing up and sitting down to stop falling asleep. At one point I grazed the wall as I nodded off!

Imagine in real life racing at 200MPH and falling asleep on the last few laps (LOL)

Dont use the f1's for anything else than the formula 1 cup....

I completed a month ago!!!!

If i could do it over, i would have bought and used a steering wheel from the start, it takes the game to several higher levels, and that is also what i think about manual-gearshifting, USE IT!!!!!!!, its kinda diffucult in the start (max. 1 hour concentrated practice, and you should be rolling)

DO IT, IF YOU LOVE THE GAME

Oh Hell Yeah! I do the same thing. Let them eat my dust. :D

Although sometimes I race cars at or alittle above what the other cars are. ;)

First off Welcome to GTPlanet!!! Gotta love this website!!!

Second, in my opinion it all depends on what type of mood your in... A couple examples...

Want that feel of close heat on your tail, and the sense of great accomplishment when you win at the skin of your teeth. GT3 will give it to you if you chose the right cars for the right races. :nervous:

or, did you and your girlfriend just get into a huge fight and you just feel like beating the crap outta of everyone... laping them once, twice, three times.... You can do that too...

Gotta love GT3... there is no wrong way to win in GT3, as long as you win, its your game, have fun!!!!

I agree with Magic069, it all depends on the mood your in. If you feel like sitting with a race for a wheel take a car that's on the same level as your opponents and tune the hell out of it. That's one of the best things with the game, getting a car that handles like crap to the point where it's a dreamcar :)

Great thing about GT series is that you can play anyway you want till you're bored, leave it for a few weeks, then get inspired to play it again when you see a car in real life. Eg, driving home from uni and pulling up at the lights next to a red Mitsu GTO then rushing home to GT3 to find out how she goes! Or watching 'Initial D' and wanting to try out the insane drifts with a Sprinter Trueno!

I breezed thru the rally courses within some 2 hours and grabbed the Escudo and used it everywhere except NA, MR, DTW , FF and whereever I cannot use it.
To strip the opponents to the bone is huge fun and who cares about fairplay when those dudes ram you out of course while you spend extra effort to stay clear and avoid them ?
I LUV slamming right into te B-column (the middle section) of the cornering car right in front of me and watch him run into whatever laying next to him. (The best was to press the Cam C5 into the pit lane during the All Stars Test Course... He didn't want to go there but had to... Also pressing the Castrol Mugen NSX into the barrier joining section was great... You should have heard him smacking into the protruding barrier corner and going into a wild spin at some break-neck 325 kph !! Hehhehehe :D )

I fear this will cause me doing the same in real life to the #$%&** so-called "road warriors" !!!
