Hi,

I was wondering what wheel setups are best for GT5.

Money is not a problem for me.

Anything is accepted.

I think a Playseat is best for a seat, but which kind.
Also, what is the BEST wheel. I have looked into Thrustmaster T500 RS, Logitech G27, and Fanatec Porsche Models.

Thanks

Welcome to GTPlanet. We have a forum for wheels & cockpits. I've moved your thread there.

But you're unlikely to find consensus! The discussion between Fanatec/Logitech users can be quite intense, and I can only see the Thrustmaster muddying the waters further.

If money is not a problem buy a real car :)

Jokes aside, you would have to use the search function and read the 1000+ threads on thrustmaster and G27

Personally I think the thrustmaster is not up there yet as their having some teething problems...Logitech has been around forever and all the fastest WRS racers use them or the old school G25

Also, G27 and thrustmaster is considered "entry level" in the sim world, some advanced wheels (Frex) go for a couple thousand $ but are highly advanced...but then you dont use a playseat, so I think for your case either G27 if you want bang for your bucks or thrustmaster if your happy with taking a chance

The above will satisfy your needs if your not the type of person that plays with a full racing suit and helmet...otherwise frex might be your best bet http://www.frex.com/gp/

Edit: Not sure if Frex works with ps3 thought?

Officially not but ShigeT from Frex said that he will tell the owners of the Frex wheel how to make it work with the PS3. Problem are the pedals. You need to invert the axis to make the Frex pedals work with GT5. I guess that there is no option in GT5 to invert the axis of GT5. So, Frex is out.

Fanatec or the T500RS!

Best is subjective, and it depends on what you're planning to do with your rig (PC? PS3? X360?) but if I was buying TODAY, I'd buy...

Fanatec GT2 wheel w/Clubsport pedals and standard shifters ($500)
Fanatec Rennsport Racing Cockpit w/Triple Monitor Stand ($1550)
SAMSUNG P2450H 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor x3 ($775)
Logitech Z 5500 Digital 5.1-CH PC multimedia home theater speaker system ($400)
PS3 ($300)
X360 x3 ($600)
High End Gaming PC - your choice, prices vary too wildly to estimate.

SO, for about $4400 (w/o tax, shipping, cables or PC) you get a bad ass racing rig that can play pretty much any racing game in style!

Thrustmaster T500 RS is actually the best full compatible wheel (an it´s official for the game). But, in my opinion, there is still not an stable cockpit in the market suporting this new wheel. And has another incovenience: Thrustmaster/Guillemot has not released the shifter for this wheel yet.

I´m in a similar situation: I have a high budget planned to spend in a good config for GT5, but not yet for sale the things I want to buy for it.

Nice!
I would add a 3d TV for GT5 in 3d as the middle monitor. and a buttkicker. so....add another add about another $800? minus the $250 for the sammy monitors total would be about $5000. you could do better than the logitech surround but that would be overkill 👍 dont forget to post pics when you have it set up.

Yeah. I like how you think!

I read and searched this whole forum when I got here no to long ago....I purchased and tested 3 wheels. It's an epic debate but for what it's worth..

I'd vote G27 w/ playseat wrc (or any model with that design) w/ shifter and rail attachments and a buttkicker....mine should be here Tom :)

so....whats holding you back is the fact that you dont think that there is a cockpit on the market that can contain the thrustmasters FFB power?
humm... well, really I think actually there is only one; the Manu-Factory´s SimR Runcage: http://www.drivingitalia.net/articoli.php?sez=hardware&id=61

... but it´s out of my budget (plus it has some particular thing I do not like me).

Most others are unstable or have some limited adjustment.

Coming from the G27 I can say the Thrustmaster T500 is superior by a fairly wide margin. Much smoother, refined feel. None of the backlash and very "grindy gear' feel of the G27. Pedals are a step above G27 too - especially the brake.

As for cockpits - I don't think the T500 needs anything over the top - it's just fine on my PC desk. Also good on my wheel stand pro deluxe.

BTW, look at an obutto if you want a pretty strong value vs. the playseat (not knocking the playseat - just think the obutto gives you more $ for $).

Another option you may want to consider is G27 with CST pedals which now you can be an adapter to use CST pedals with the g27 (g25/ DFGT) on PS3. I've read these pedals feels very close to the real thing.

Having used both the Logitech G25 and Fanatec GT3 RS V2 extensively, I think the GT3 beats the G25 by a substantial margin and for $120 less ($299 vs $179).

However, if I were starting over I'd have to seriously consider the TS 500 based on initial reviews despite the $600 price tag.

The ultimate combination would be TS500 with CST pedals yet they could only to used together on the PC right now. Maybe CST will come out with a PS3 adapter for TS500 in the future. If I had the money I would probably go for Ts500/CST combo since I play most racing games on PC anyhow.

I'm referring to CST pedals and not CSP which cost around $600-$700.

After having a g27 for a while.. Never buy one. **** id sell my g27 for 1/2 of what i have payed for it + the cost of all the mods with out even thinking, and it would be the smartest thing id ever do. Get a Fanatec. I havnt used a thrustmaster but truth is a gt3 + clubsport pedals.. And soon enough a clubsport shifter will be out. You will have all that for alot less then a modded g27 that copies what the fanatec has stock. GL mate :)

Can I ask you to elaborate? As a happy former Logitech G25 owner, and now a happy Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S and GT2 owner, I'm curious. I like the Fanatecs better overall, but the G25 was my first "high end" wheel and I really liked it.

My own dealings with both companies have been very positive, but based on the rants here, it sounds like Fanatec has issues with customer service, response times, and communication.

Maybe they're dialing back supply on their standard shifter to build a demand for their premium one? Hmmmm... I smell conspiracy! (cue X-Files theme)

Why would you need three X360s?
