Gamepod is curently one of the best cockpits you can buy.
Do bear in mind proper race seats are expensive and not like the creaking rather basic seat Playseat give you. The upcoming extras for them will make them even better. ISR will soon review the Gamepod aswell but expect it to be one of the best they have reviewed.

Its very easy to spend £600 / $1000 on proper race seat alone if money isnt an issue but comfort and immersion are important to you.

For a wheel thats easy as well, you need at least 2, the T500 RS and a GT2.
If your wanting pro sim wheels then be prepared to shell out into the $1000s again.

For audio forget Logitech, bah and go for proper audio components.
Add in at least a single but even better go for 3x Buttkicker type devices which will bring it all to life and give you stereo and LFE tactile effects.

I think you could get a shock when you discover just how much some people on these forums actually spend on their systems.

In the T500 RS little-review looks quite unstable. To say it is "one of the best" (considering its price) makes me doubt over the impartiality of ISR...

Particularly not buy a Gamepod before an Obutto. Even if money is no problem, would not buy either.

They ISR have it extended quite high hence why their is a bit of lateral movement. Look on other forums you will find by far very few Gamepod owners complaining.

An Obutto has great options too but its not as heavy or as solid as a Gamepod nor does it come with a proper, actual real branded quality race seat.

Thrustmaster T500 RS is actually the best full compatible wheel (an it´s official for the game). But, in my opinion, there is still not an stable cockpit in the market suporting this new wheel. And has another incovenience: Thrustmaster/Guillemot has not released the shifter for this wheel yet.

I´m in a similar situation: I have a high budget planned to spend in a good config for GT5, but not yet for sale the things I want to buy for it.

Until it has a gate shifter, it's far from the most compatible!

The problem is not in the seat; it´s in the wheel holder.

Look in the ISR T500 RS review (start at 6:20 min.) how the wheel stand moves, and look here how stable an over 1.000 $ cockpit must be.

Im quite aware of how good a GP is having owned one for two years. The movement is minimal, no its not fully 100% stable but on mine at my settings particularly when using with the Fanatec table clamp it isnt really an issue. Adding that stables things a bit with the extra weight and allows the wheel to be titled.

The seat was mentioned as it's one of the benefits of a GP cockpit. The basic Monaco seat is £180+ to buy from a typical motorsport store and the Evolution model approx £600. Your getting real quality build and components with a GamePod. Even a Rennsport or VR3 dont to my knowledge use actual motorsport branded seats. Nor can many other cockpits like those be bought as a frame only option allowing a user to add their own racing seats.

The upcoming extras will be annother bonus set of options GP cockpits offer users.
Keyboard Tray / Pedal Platform / Buttkicker Platform / Gearstick Holder all due soon.

It´s the most compatible, but still not the most complete.

G25/27 and some Fanatec Porsche comes with H shifter plus clutch, but are not suported wheels for the game (working, but not officialy suported).

This is probably one reason I often see real race car drivers prefer to sim race on a heavy PC desk instead of one these rigs.
As far as seats goes, real motorsport (car) seats are design for real cars which are moving and not really necessary as much when stationary like you are sitting at a desk or rig. They are often design to sit lower to the floor as well.
