Which wheel to get?

hi guys i just wanted to know something from the experts i currently bought iracing and looking to get a steering wheel is the logitech g27 a good investment since its a old wheel and the price at my local store is 250$ i currently live in Canada so the t500 will cost my around 750$ with taxes from amazon

any thoughts?
 
Id say the Logitech is definitely worth the $250. Not sure if the T500 is worth $500 more than the G27.

Ive never owned either but ive done a ton of research on both and if you are strictly a PC user the G27 would be my choice.

thank you for your reply i would like to see other people opinion its a hard decision but yea i was wondering if someone has used both
 
I think the Logitech is most dependable wheel in that price range.
I would never have purchased T500 if I hadn't found it on sale for $400.
Most of top guys on my GT6 FR LB are using G25/G27 or DFGT wheels.

ok i see actually the t500 is 680$ with tax and logitech g27 is 280$ with tax so my question is why the huge price difference and what to get

I got my T500 on sale, I was very lucky.
That being said, I don't think its worth $400 extra.

In my case it was only $183 over $250 including tax...
...no shipping as I bought from bricks & mortar.

G27 also comes with an H-shifter, T500 does not come with one.
That costs at least another $150, although more elaborate than G27's.
 
I suggest you go with one of two options, taking in to consideration that if you are looking at the T500 seriously at all, that budget is not top priority:

1. If there's much chance that you'll end up wanting to go higher again with either a Fanatec direct drive wheel (doesn't exist/not available yet) or Simxperince Accuforce wheel (not available yet), then buy a G27 and enjoy a great wheel until then. But don't just wait for those without having anything.

2. Buy the T500. Make sure that you exhaust all of your shopping options though. Maybe someone else from Canada might have some advice for a better price. At least you won't be left thinking "what if....".

What you get? T500 owners will be more qualified to comment, but more power and belt drive would be a descent start to outlining advantages.
 
I bought the G27 and was happy with it for years playing GT6.

I started playing iRacing and ended up buying a T500 because the G27 left something to be desired.

I now have a perfectly functional G27 collecting dust in my closet because it's best purpose is as a backup.

Bottom line,

If you only plan to run console games, a G27 is fine. If you want to get into PC games, the T500 will blow your mind with it's awesomeness.
 
I have owned both. If it's your first wheel, then a G27 would be a very good start. But a T500 even better. If your budget allows then get a T500 because it is a better wheel/pedal set and you will probably only want to upgrade after not very long anyway if you get the G27, which is no longer produced IIRC.

The T500 is a beast of a wheel but it's probably powerful beyond what most people require so in that way it's slight overkill. But because of this you can run the master gain FFB at a much lower level on the T500 (60%) which means it should last longer than a G27 which has to have it's master gain FFB cranked up to the max (100%) to be on par. A lot of the extra cost of a T500 in my opinion comes from the pedals. They are much more solid and infinitely more adjustable than a G27's pedals. The T500 is also a lot more modular with the availability of the official 458 GTE rim, Ferrari F1 rim and TH8RS shifter although you have to buy these seperately. Also the basherboards brake mod and bodin solutions load cell brake which are warranty friendly. The G27 has very limited warranty friendly upgrades. In fact i can't think of any of note.
 
I have a Fanatec GT2... The only downfall, is I have that, spiking probem, now, and I need to get one of those filters... I'm using the pedals form my g27, and It works, but I like the throw of the CSR pedals with the inversion kit... I do love both of the wheels, G27 for PC and somtimes PS3, but I live to race on all platforms, so the gt2 is great to have, if you run on Forza at all... Both are great wheels, but the customer service, from fanatec, is nothing to brag about... Once the pedals, started spiking real bad (Especially on GT6), they kept askin' me if I would make a video... I DID 5 TIMES!... So I'm just gonna wait till I can buy one of those filters, and go from there... Another thing, I noticed, about the GT2 though, isthat its, get hot... I mean hot... I ended up gettin 2 usb coolin fans from coler guys, and mounted them onto the top vent blowing in... help ALOT... Just my opinion... lol...
 
Personally, I'd opt to go w/the Thrustmaster T500RS...spend the little extra...do some extensive online research to find the best deal and then pull the trigger!
 
ok thanks for all the adivice my last question is i will be only be playing iracing so how does the g27 compare to only using to play iracing and once again only thing is hold me back is that big price change and can u put a different shifter on the g 27?

ALSO: this is my first wheel i never had one before

A Thrustmaster TH8, or Fanatec Clubsport shifter, for example, will plug in as standalone usb devices, so you could use them in conjunction with a G27.

I have no reason to believe that the T500 shouldn't be better than the G27 by around the same margin on iRacing as most or all other sims.
 
No, that if we pick a nominal number and say that the T500 is 30% better, it should be around 30% better on most or all sims, barring oddities.

Both wheels would have been absolutely put through their paces with iRacing, so there should be no oddities.
 
Some iRacing World Champions have done it using a DFGT wheel, so in all honesty your performance very much comes down to you as much as it does the wheel.

The pedals however in my opinion (specifically the brake for the Road racing guys) are a much more important item from which time is gained or lost. The fact the T500 pedals are highly adjustable (spacing left to right, face angle, height, travel and firmness, floor mounted F1 style, back mounted GT style, the included 'realistic brake mod', not to mention the two aftermarket brake mods i mentioned in my last post) means you should be able to set them up exactly to your liking.

The G27 pedals i think can only be spaced left to right. So if you don't happen to like the way they feel there is not a lot you can do about it.

Where do you live in Canada? Maybe some kind person on the forum would let you try their T500 or G27? And what racing do you plan to do most on iRacing? Road or Oval?

Also remember the T500 paddles do not rotate with the wheel. I don't know if you already know this but it's something to think about. It can be solved with the 458 GTE rim add on, but again, more money.

I suppose to be fair you would need to compare a G27 with a T500 with the TH8RS shifter and the 458 GTE rim. Then, the price difference becomes huge and in comparison the G27 is very good value because you get a shifter and rotating paddles from the get go.

Just don't rush into it. Make sure you know all the pros and cons before you decide. Hope this helps.
 
I think G27 is the best value wheel. It does all the right things and it is actually very well built for the price. I had a G25 for 5 years and it was a great wheel. When I changed I intent on getting something nicer which is why I went T500, and it was not a bad price(not Micro Center nice, but cheaper than retail). In some respect its nicer, in others I still think Logitech is better. I think the buttons on Logitech is way better. Also you don't need to buy separate shifter...Pedal set on the T500 is better just because its more sturdy and with the basher mod it feels quite good. If its full price I don't know if its worth that much over the Logitech. But at discount T500 is pretty good.
 
I've had a G27 for about half a year now and I absolutely love it. Very solid and realistic. It also comes with an H-shifter which the T500 does not. I don't think another wheel set really comes close to the G27 when you factor in the price and what you get.

I only use it for GT6 so I'm not sure how much of a difference a wheel makes on iRacing. It all comes down to what you think you need and how much you want to spend. If you want a good reliable wheel without spending a ton then the G27 is it. If you can afford it then go with the T500 because you can't really do better than that.
 
Just ask yourself what you want out of it, for the extra money you will never be any faster on a T500RS, in fact maybe the opposite. All the extra force feedback will make your counter corrections slower and harder to catch than a G27, and they both have great road feeling (except for a slight middle deadzone on G27). The reason to spend the extra money is immersion factor - to experience forces that of which a real racing driver might (or closer to it), because real race drivers make it look a lot easier on tv, but they actually FIGHT the wheel with all their strength. The first time you play with a mid grade to higher end wheel like a T500RS or Fanatec CSW, you will feel like you know what it takes to physically drive a racecar and you won't be able to stop smiling I promise. Thats what the extra money buys you, fun. Not speed, but fun.
Just like the feeling of stepping up from a static spung wheel to your first force feedback, it will be a similar feeling going from a budget wheel like a G27 to the T500RS. If you have the money to spend, spend it on the best wheel you can afford and worry about upgrading/adding shifters later.
 
Though at least with a higher powered wheel you have the choice. Run it lower for enough information, but less physical strain when going for laps times, and higher for when it's all about the fun.

And yes, "better" is all about a more immersive experience, not speed.
 
I have had both the G27 was great as my first wheel and now I use the T500RS. I play a lot of iRacing and can honestly say the T500 makes the G27 feel like a toy. Dont get me wrong you wont be disappointed with a G27, for GT the G27 was good but the T500 seems to have that something else. The pedals are a lot better than the G27 and you have options for rim changes/mods if using on PC.

Can you not find someone to purchase it for you and send it to you to try and save on cost?
 
It depend on how you rate the wheels. The G27 is a very easy going wheel with little resistance on it=easy to go fast. It never felt that good to me and particularly not after trying out belt driven wheels like the Fanatec GT3 RS V2/Turbo S line and even more so the T500RS and TX.

250$ is really expensive for a G27 but surely if you go by speed it may be actually slightly easier to go faster with the G27 because it has less torque capabilities and less internal resistance. So it can actually perform better for being worse in term of torque capabilities in term of speed :). If you don´t need the PS 3 compability the TX means the G27 is worse in every regard minus stock pedals and having an H-shifter included.

Thrustmaster unlike Fanatec wheel don´t seem to be cheaper in the US then in Europe so the price difference there get a bit greater.

Maybe you can find the TX cheaper? I do preferr my TX over my old T500RS as much as I liked that one.

I bought my G27 and I'm quite happy with it but I'm always looking for deals and thinking about upgrading. I got mine at BestBuy in Canada and I'd advise you to do the same if you can. BestBuy in Canada will match any Cdn advertised price including online, so you get the lowest price possible and you have somewhere to return it if you have an issue. I paid $220 for mine + tax.

Direct Canada has it on sale for only $199 so I'd keep that link on your phone, go to the nearest BestBuy, and if they don't have it in stock, they can find one for you.
 
thanks for telling me that I got the g27 couple days ago and it rattles over curbs kids loud wheel I might return it and see if I can get t500 is the price in USA still 600$ for the wheel I am still thnking cause I want a wheel for the long term too
 
As a slight off-shoot: Is pedal feel something that can be had in any commercially available racing wheel? Is it even something that could be supported by the game? (Controller goes bat-🤬-crazy when I lock up hard, so that may answer the second question.)
