I'm currently looking for a winter vehicle. I've decided 4x4 is nearly a must. At first I wanted a pickup but I've come across several older Jeep Cherokees and am seriously considering picking one up this week.
The first candidate is a 1991 Laredo spec 4.0l automatic 4x4 with 154k on the clock. It is red/grey in color with grey interior. Paint is faded, has a few dents but only mild rust. The owner says something is wrong with the alternator and the asking price is $1200.
My thinking here is that I know the 4.0l is pretty much bullet proof. If the alternator is bad I can get an reman unit from autozone for cheap and install it myself and that should last at least a year or two. Should anything else be wrong with it I just happen to work at a Jeep dealership with a steep parts discount.
Should I buy?
