In GT5 when you crash the car it looked like made from jelly.
In GT6 it seems that the texture is getting replaced by a new texture like the surface has been battered by hammers ... I like that! When I occasionally bump into another car or a barrier now the car looks like scarred rather than ... like melted chocolate.
I don't need real damage - I'm not looking for a wreck game but rather a racing game and when you crash in real racing ... it can be bad. Yep.
So, who is in favor of the new looks of the new crash physics?
I am! :)

P.S.: Just had to get it out from my chest. Kudos PD!

But wreck games don't have real damage, so your comparison is moot. FM isn't a wreck game Need for Speed is, hopefully you get the idea of what an actual wreck game is compared to that of a simcade/sim that models a true damage model.

Ok. So. Grid 2? Wreck game or racing game?
And yes, wreck games are wreck games because in them ... you wreck cars.
And ... where did I mention ... FM?

If I graze an opponent my car becomes beat up.
What happens more often is that an opponent just smashes in to me.
While the second part is annoying in itself I don't see the car during the race so I don't really care what it looks like.

However, on occasion I watch the replay and want to snap some pictures. That's when it's annyoing if it looks like I've driven my car through a mill while in fact it was bumped by some crazy AI.

If I want a wreck game i play carmageddon 2 where the point is to wreck the opponents. Its an old game but still can be good fun and works with the worst PCs.
If I want a driving game I play GT.

how is a game to exactly replicate a infinite possibility anyway...
Not sure if you meant that as critisism to the game as it goes for the physics as well.
There is a finite number of states given a finite space to store values so any simulation. Now we could argue it reality and the state-space of possibilities is endless, but I think we can agree that that space is several orders of magnitude larger in reality compared to the PS3 simulation.

But just as there are ways of simulating vehicle dynamics there are ways to realistically simulate deformation.

Perhaps on a next gen console, but not with what we have. It would involve a large amount of graphical data...

I really like it, it's better than nothing.
I spent hours watching how the MiTo was getting bumped all over the front. I was switching the camera every single time I had the oportunity to do so jajaja.
It's not perfect, but you can clearly see how it's becoming damaged, and it is faster than GT5.
That's the thing, you need to get the damage fast if you hit a wall going 150 Km...

It would be perfect to see, for example, in a circuit like Willow Springs, different kind of parts of the car getting blown away when you loose your racing line and you end in the dirt, but anyway, it's a step in the right direction, and taking into consideration that Kaz admitted that he wants to get damage and more strict regulations in the future, I'm happy.
I'd love to see this earlier, but at least its coming.

Well you can switch off the visible damage, I think. :)
I preffered GT5's damage model. Atleast for Premium cars, where the body parts actually deformed individually.
Well ... If you had your hood in your driving cabin ... what's the fun in driving an utterly broken car? :)
If you had a bump here and there ... it's just part of racing neck and neck. :)

I'd rather not have any damage with the derpy AI, always end up with something damaged because they love to ram into you.

I like breaking stuff, I don't really care if it's there or not, just that I preferred GT5's damage model over GT6's. For GT7 I hope we get a better version of GT5's damage, with a much better mechanical damage simulation and the ability to knock off parts for everything.

I think cosmetic damage by itself is pointless. Why would I want to see my car get banged up with no real consequence? It's annoying. I'd rather not have damage at all if they're not going to go all the way with it. There should have been an option to turn it off at the very least.

I think they should combine the loose dislodged bumpers from gt5, and maybe allow those to warp a bit too again.

For the sheet metal parts I like the new denting and scratching better but then I look at the bumper and its still almost good as new!:odd:

You sure you can switch it off?
I can't find it, you sure you're not thinking about the damage models in online then?

GTA V did a really good job on simulating damage dynamically even on the PS3, so I think it is possible that PD can make the damage system better
But thats GTA V. You know, the game that doesnt have 1200+ cars.

So you must be going 10 mph?

No, because you cant qualify any time you try to overtake they'll turn in on you regardless of how far alongside you are. The only options to overtake without being hit is to go into the corner way too fast so you get past before they turn in or attempt to overtake them on a straight, which isn't always an option as I often have a slower car in a straight line.

the technology is out their, but it's not really possible to map out the weight and tensile strength of every body part in 1200 cars

I'll check and see later today.

In the lobby room there is None/Light/Heavy option. :) So there are your consequences. :)

Through the START button while in Menu's screen in Arcade menu there is a setting VISIBLE DAMAGE on/off.
Hope that helps!
