BMW does not own alpina. alpina merely specialises in tuning BMWs. much like AMG was an independent company before it was bought out by mercedes.
ford only owns a controlling stake in mazda. i believe its 33%. it may have been upped recently.
daimler and chrylser are not partners. chrysler is a subsidiary of daimler benz, which is a large mutlinational corporation with many diverse intrests.
daimler owns a controlling stake in mitsubishi motors. i believe its close to 50%,
there are two different cosworths, one (cosworth racing?) owned entirely by ford and one (cosworth engineering?) that i think is independent.
ford does not own qvale. qvale was bought by rover and is essentially dead.
GM does not own AM general. they merely have marketing rights to sell vehicles under the huimmer label. AM general is still an independent company making the original military humvee and civilian H1.
i do not remember the specifics of the daewoo/ GM deal. i think daewoo north america is a GM owned company, but outside of the united states it is still its own company. GM does own SOME plants outside of north america, but not all. this is why there are no longer any daewoo dealers in north america. GM owns distribution rights. i think.
delphi, i think, is an independenet company that was spun off from GM and now is an OE supplier to all manufacturers, i could be wrong.
visteon, however, is still a subsidiary of ford. i think.
ford does not own volvo. they own volvo cars. it matters because there is a company that makes volvo trucks and busses. volvo trucks is a separate company.
similarly GM may own saab, but the aero division is a swedish company that is NOT owned by GM.
i think GM is trying to spinoff onstar as a separate company. i dont recall.
mercedes (and by extension, daimler chrysler!) owns freightliner.
i do not believe cummins is owned by chrysler. but i do not kow for sure.
volkswagen does NOT own porsche. porsche is the largest independent car maker left. all others are a part of a conglomerate (daimler benz, fuji heavy industries etc) or part of a large car company (GM, ford etc.)
RUF are porsche tuners, not part of VW. they are classified as an independent car manufacturer in germany.
Abt is a tuner, not a part of vw.
fiats parent company (i cant remember the name, it might be fiat Spa!) owns ferrari. fiat automobiles is a subsidiary of that larger company and so is ferrari.
that means ferrari is not owned by fiat automobile.
maserati is owned by fiat automobile (someone forgot that one.)
i think toyota owns diahatsu. i cant remember.
i think renault owns a controlling stake in nissan. something like 67%, i cant remember if they bought it out completely.
BMW does not own rover/ MG. it was sold to an english holding company for ten pounds. yes, ten english pounds. bmw made enough profit from the sale of land- rover to ford.
i could be wrong on many of those, but i believe i got most of them right.
