Wow! It's been a long time since there was a post in this thread.

I was just reading through the drum thread and remembered this one so i thought I might bring it back for anybody new.


The only thing with me that's new in guitar is that I took lessons for about 3 months and had to stop because of time constaints but those three months have helped greatly. I have now written about 11 songs of my own, but I have no lyrics cuz I just can't write any. I plan on starting the lessons back up soon so that I can get better and actually play the whole song of the professional songs I do try to play.
 
Since both boys are in school and I have the day pretty much to my self, I've planned to get back to playing the guitar. If I do anything with it other than getting back to doing it, I'm not certain.

So, I found and dusted off some old studio equipment I have stored away, and waiting for some other gear (amp and direct box for it) I fired up my old guitar, which needs the frets replaced since it frets out, and recorded something. It's not good, or bad. OK, the first half is bad, though, but it runs as it should in the second half part (I always tense up when I hit record. Don't you?). Plus, my fingers where hardly in shape to play as I was dreaming of the riff which was already "dumbed down" for my weak fingers, so it had to be changed into something more simple for me, heh.

The recording quality sucks. I got my mic inputs on the front of my PC to work again. I'm going direct into there with a Shure SM57 with no mic pre amp. I think you can tell. If any of you have experience using this kind of setup and can help with some tips, please do. Thanks.

The clip sounds soft; lacking presence, so you should crank your volume up. (Yeah, I think I need a pre amp). I used a Lexicon PCM70 set on chorus and my Tonebone Hot British distortion pedal (too much distortion for my tastes) and went into my son's Line 6 1x12 combo.

Man, hearing that makes me wish the collaborative music session actually followed through. I'd love to play some drums for someone to record something to.
