Hey Everyone!

I just wanted pop in and say I am going to be poking my old face around the boards a little bit more now. Things are going to be majorly changing for me, allowing more time to spend at GTP. Like old times.

Not to make this a boring thread... I'll give a brief update what has happened to me since I was a everyday member.

I finally own a 2001 Yamaha R-6 (god she is sweet)
I have designed and built 2 houses for 2 different families. 1 4500 sq ft and 1 3200 sq ft for you Architecture buffs. Working on my third now, a small 3000 sq ft.
Quiting my job in 32 days...
To attend the University of South Florida to obtain...
my masters in Architecture.
I am planning on getting rid of the Xtreme (Pictured in Avatar), which I have won every race I have entered it in... and buying a Mazda 6 (V-6 of course).
And finally I am on the edge of launching my own company DLSHomes where I plan to sell my designs across the state of Florida.

So if you didn't figure it out I should have more time, not having a job anymore. I hope to become a college bum and live off the money I have earned thus far. So see ya around again!

I have missed the site, and can't wait to be a regular again! :)

I sure do, Magic, good to see you back! Glad to hear things are working out so well for you. Good lcuk in school and in the construction projects!

Got any pics of the houses?

Sadly, I remember you. :) Ha, welcome back, Magicotter.

Cool, I didn't know you were an architect. I'm going to an architectural center to get my Bachelor's this September.

👍

Just remember you need a masters to practice architecture. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Well, believe or not I am in the middle of a fast track masters program. It speeds it up by a year. Plus I take grad level courses as a undergrad. (Means summer school) So I earn the bachelors along the way... but its not really talked about or really handed to me. I might get a letter in the mail, but all I and the school cares about is me getting a Masters.

I don't really know you, Magic. But I know you do the football pools.

Anyways, welcome back. Maybe now that your back I might be able to get to know ya better.

Not precisely true. You need a Bachelor of Architecture at least, which is a 5-year professional degree. A standard 4-year liberal arts BA with a major in Architecture won't cut it.

If you're looking at a 4-year BA or BS, you're looking at 2 years of grad school on top of that. Or 3, depending. Ask me how I know: 7 years of college, I could have been a doctor or a lawyer.

And Jimmy, you never told me you were going to the BAC. Good for you! Der Alta and I get you interested?

Hey, when you're talking $30,000 more in tuition, not to mention 2 more years not earning money, little things make a difference, eh?
;)

Nah, I think I've always liked architecture. I didn't decide what I wanted to do until about 2 months ago. About a month after all my friends had been accepted to college.

I'm going for the 5-year BArch now.

Who wants to be a Lawyer or a Doctor when you can be an Architect?

Hey, of course I remember you. Welcome back! Glad to see there's another guy joing the field.

That wouldn't be the one in Boston would it? My old boss, as well as a few co-workers and good friends went there. My old boss is a part time prof there as well.

Good luck, and I'll have to keep an eye on resumes that float by my desk. Cut yours off at the pass.

Bad idea - my brother rented a Mazda 6 and not only is it slow (which i'm guessing you don't really care about, but oh well), it can have transmission problems like most Mazdas.

Yes, it would be in Boston. Boston Architectural Center on Newbury Street.

That would be pretty cool if by chance I submitted a resume to your employer.

Hmm, must have been before my time here. Still welcoming you back!

Yamaha R6, eh? Nice.
My brother owns a Yamaha XJR 1300 and I'm about to get myself a Yamaha R6 too. Or YZF 750R. I don't know.
Anyways, you sound like a cool lad, so ... nice meeting you! =)

I can imagine you having a meeting with your client right now...

Clients: Well, we didn't really want this that you made... we were looking more for retro-conservative-neo-modernistic-tech, ya know?

Jimmy: Shut up, you bumble****s.

[edit]: Ooh, how rude of me... congratulations , Magic! :D:tup: Sounds like you've got everything nicely planned out. I miss your old avatar. ;) (Wizard guy!)

Bumble****s? I've never used that before, but it will soon be my new favorite word.

You are a monumental behemoth who loves to hug Bill Cosby. :dopey:

Good to hear from you again, Magic! :)

Welcome back Magic! Now you can work the football pools again.(They were awful the week I did them.):tup

Well that sucks your getting rid of the Xtreme! I guess I'll have to be the only one around here with one. I've done quite a bit of work to mine.

But good to have you back.

I just heard (read) it yesterday, and it's already my new favorite word (although it always sounds better in its singular form).

What?

Ooh, that gives me a chance to use this smilie -->

How did I know I would get called out on this! Maybe their a difference of names here but I think we are talking about the same thing. A Bachelor of Arts in the state of Florida is a 4 year degree no matter the major. So you can get a Bachelors of Architecture and it not mean anything. You need to progress into a grad degree, which in the state of Florida is a Masters. Usually 2 extra years of school. So that is simply were I got my infomation.

Bottom line, no matter where you go, 4 years of college simply won't cut it.

The Franklin's home has just that. 2 car garage with optional 3rd, but wired as a workshop. Price depends on builder and location. My plans are cheap right now cause I am still a student. Check my website soon for all the prices. ;)

Not good news. :(

Thank you for picking up the slack! Yes I will be back for that and I look forward to another crazy season!

Ok, I am gonna put up some pictures I have of the 4500 sq. ft house! Check them out over in the photo's forum!

A Bachelor's of Architecure is a five year degree. I believe you must complete 3000 hours of work under a registered architect to complete the degree, as well. At least at the school I will be attending.

When you graduate, you then get to take an Architecture test to become a registered Architect.

Of course, I could be horribly wrong about all of this. But that's what I was told by my CAD teacher .
