For me, it depends on the car - for example, I have a wing fitted to my Suzuki GSX-R 4 Concept at all times because I feel it benefits from it without compromising top speed. However on most super cars, even if they are unstable, I would rather tame them with suspension tuning and careful throttle inputs rather than add a wing that often (in my opinion) ruins the lines of the car!

Yes, it's much better to disparage a person for their nationality. You should inform the universities of their mistake.

Also, I use a wing when I need it. One of my alpines have one...and the Hommel for instance....kinda looks cool on the Hommel as well.

IMO Spoilers also "spoil" the look of most cars hehe .

i would definitely agree with that mate, my point was that i have seen very fast laps with and without the spoiler around Nordschliefe, i can manage 6:39 in my M3 CSL without a wing but the car is very unsteady on a lot of the corners and as my knowledge of car set ups and GT5 is very limited i was wondering if a rear wing would hinder or help my time but apparently it was a stupid question to ask so i will ask no more questions on GTPlanet.

I guess the only way we could prove if rear wings help or hinder your time around the Nurburgring is to buy a car and go straight to GT Auto and put a wing on it, nothing else.

I will go to the UCD and buy a random car ( I will make sure it's at least half-decent ) then do a lap with and without the wing.

If it gives benefits while minimizing hindrances, might as well use it. The cars look cleaner without them at times, but why are you staring at the car when you should be driving?

Rear wing at the Nurb helps a lot though for me.

I think you may be the closest community member to me in geographical terms. I live in east cobb. Are you going to the Petite Lemans this year?

Most other cars would have completely different results and there would be changes depending on driver too. You can't just 'prove' something like that and have it apply for everything.

True. I did a lap in a X540 Chaser without a wing and got a laptime of 8:21.666 (scary ). I didn't make any mistakes while driving and I predict that if I put a rear wing on it, it would be slower due to the excess drag the spoiler creates. But to make up for the increased drag, I have increased traction at the rear when driving at high speeds. Below I've created a little theory about rear spoilers and when it's a good time to use them 👍 .

My theory for rear spoilers:

Very Low Speed Tracks (i.e Kart Space II) - Won't make a difference since the car won't be nearly going fast enough for the downforce to have a noticeable effect. Don't install a spoiler for these 👎 .

Low Speed Tracks (i.e London) - Having a rear spoiler for a fairly low speed track like London will make a slight difference since you are travelling at faster speeds compared to a track like Kart Space II. Using a spoiler here is optional 👍 .

Middle Speed Tracks (i.e Special Stage Route 5) - Having a spoiler for a track like SSR5 is suggested as you will have more traction in the corners, and you won't be gaining too much speed to the point where the spoiler is only slowing you down. Spoiler is reccomended, although it might make your car slightly unstable .

High Speed Tracks (i.e High Speed Ring (lives up to its name ) ) - Having a spoiler for high speed tracks is fine, but it will slow you down a little due to excess drag. Spoiler is optional here 👍 .

Very High Speed Tracks (i.e Special Stage Route X ) - Spoiler for very high speed tracks like SSRX is not recommended at all since the corners can be taken at full blast with ease, spoiler or no spoiler. Would be a good idea to drop the spoiler for a track like this to make the car less prone to unecessary drag. Do not use spoilers! 👎👎👎

most high-powered cars with huge torque will need a wing to help stability at the longer sections of the Nurn. Especially if using SH or SS tires.

I don't think there is actually any aerodynamic drag with aero parts on Street Cars in GT5, they're only slower because an aero kit will add PP, making you need to make the car heavier or lower the HP.

But when it comes to cruising with mates i just like the car to look as stock as it can.
My favorite car on the ring is honda civic ek type r 97 because i own one in real life. No modded spoiler on it as the stock one preety beast at what it does.

Forgot to mention that it's possible to tune the suspension and the diff to compensate for the downforce on the rear wheels in a FF car. Raise the rear, lower the front and a couple of more things which I can't remember .

Most cars in this game, with or without a spoiler, produce lift. A spoiler will help reduce lift, no matter if it's FF or AWD. Saying that a spoiler only helps with rear end traction is nonsense.
